If you prefer to dine out, there are good restaurants close by in either the Morena District, the Gas Lamp District or Little Italy downtown.

About Janet or Randy LaDue

Hi - We are Randy and Janet LaDue. Randy, moved to San Diego from Ventura to attend college at San Diego State in 1976. He has lived in San Diego ever since. I met Randy in 1978 through a mutual friend and he convinced me to move to San Diego in 1981 - I have been here ever since! San Diego offers us everything we want in a city from the beaches for swimming, surfing and tanning, to mountains for hiking and skiing. Downtown is beautiful and right on the water front. The weather is amazing and consistently mild. It is an awesome city!! We love to travel and have seen a lot of amazing places, but are always glad to call San Diego our home.

Janet or Randy LaDue purchased this house in 1989

Why Janet or Randy LaDue chose San Diego County

We chose to buy this home in Bay Park because it had the view we were looking for and it is close to the beaches, downtown, airport, Sea World, the Zoo, Balboa Park, hiking in the mountains, and much more. Also, It is located near all of San Diego's major freeways for getting around easily and conveniently.

What makes this house unique

You will enjoy a view of the bay, ocean and beach-city lights from the front of the house. Step out the front door and go directly across the street to enjoy fireworks from Sea World on summer nights. The home has a lovely wooden beam ceiling, a floor to ceiling stone fireplace and a beautiful arched, stained glass window.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Hi Janet,

Our family stayed at your place back in July of 2013, and want to return to your property!

We were looking to come out to San Diego in March. It looks like we would fly out around March 21 (into LA) and then be leaving March 29th.

Thanks so much!

Great Location !!

  • 5 of 5

Upon arrival at the airport we had no trouble finding our way to this quiet neighborhood and charming home. The house was very clean and had all the amenities that we needed for a great stay. We never met the owners so I am assuming that they just let us get on with it and if we needed anything they would respond. It is a leap of faith to just let unknown folks walk into your home, I love the concept and appreciate the trust the owners had in us.

The fact that they had beach chairs and equipment for our use was a huge plus. We loved the fact that there were fans to set up for air circulation and a whole house fan that could be turned on at night to pull the heat from the house since the house does get quite hot during the day. Setting a fan in front of the screen door in the entry way worked like a charm.

The wi fi timed out constantly but since we were aware that there was a definate problem from previous reviews we really saw no need to contact the owner. Another minor inconvenience was the location of the electrical outlet in the guest bathroom as it was part of the light and too high for me to reach without enlisting a family member to plug it in for me.

We loved the home, we loved the location. We highly recommend this establishment to all and sundry and we shall return !!!

If your idea of vacation is a little home away from home, this is the place. Convenient location, nice, clean, safe, quiet neighborhood, and a perfectly cozy, yet spacious "Southern California Charm" home. We spent our days out exploring, and it was great to come home to a nice relaxing comfortable place each night.

Master bedroom bed is like sleeping on a cloud! Bathrooms are smallish and nothing luxurious, but very clean, as was the entire place. Very clean to every detail. Kitchen is older, but spacious, very clean, everything works and had everything needed. Great to have laundry option on site. Living-room was cool and comfortable, with a beautiful stained glass window. Other reviews said it seemed "dark" well hey, turn on a light, that window is beautiful and made me think of wine country. We were here during a warm week (temps in the 80's ) so the nice cool room was a great spot to relax.

Janet and Randy are wonderful. Did everything they could to make sure we were comfortable. They do live on premise, but in a separate home. We thought that was great as they were available if we needed, but completely unobtrusive. If you're looking for a rowdy place to party this is not the place. But a great quiet relaxing home away from home. This is the spot!

THIS IS A TRUE VRBO. Not someone who has displaced tenants, or are trying to turn a house or apartment into a hotel. It is a great spot, and great owners.

Thanks for the hospitality!

Happy with stay

  • 5 of 5

The house was very well equipped from kitchen utinsels to couch blankets. We stayed for four nights with adult daughter and 2 year old grandson. The location fit the bill for us. Close to Mission Bay, the zoo and Balboa Park not far. Downtown and Old Town were not too far as well. Owners were very nice and accommodating. Home is on a quiet street and easy to get to Mission Beach and Pacific Beach for restaurants and shopping. We would consider staying there again.

Economical and clean

  • 4 of 5

Considering the cost of living in San Diego, this property near Mission Bay is a good value. We enjoyed short drives to Coronado Island, downtown SD, and the Zoo, among other locations. The house is well appointed and was very clean when we arrived. There are sidewalks in the neighborhood, which is convenient for walking or running.

However, though the property advertises a printer, it didn't work. For winter visitors, be prepared for a cool house - the heat won't go above 69 degrees and it can feel chilly inside on cool, damp days. The living room is dark (without natural light) and other than a comfortable faux leather sofa it lacks comfortable seating. Finally, the internet connection was spotty at best. Resetting the router was a several-times-a-day necessity when we were at the house, probably due to the density of the neighborhood.

Owner's Response: Christy and her husband were very nice people. Their reservation included 2 cute and very curious boys. We do try to keep our rates affordable since we cater to families, and presenting it clean to our guests is very important! Thanks for noticing and including this in the review. Thank you, also, for noting that it is a great neighborhood for walking and running. Lighting and style in a home are such a personal choice. We made the conscious decision as owners of this property to have more filtered light through the beautiful stained glass window in the living room, as the window faces west where the sun sets; we took into consideration the comfort of our guests by not allowing too much light and heat to come through. We have made sure to install more than sufficient lighting options in that room, including track lighting, table lamp, and floor lamp. The lighting in the house has all been updated to include LED bulbs. The home accommodates up to six people, and it is our experience that the leather couch, which is an L-shaped sectional and measures approximately 9' x 7', seats more than 6 people. There are four additional chairs made for sitting as options. To our future guests: Please, if the internet connection and/or the printer are not working, let us know. We will do our best to take care of it right away. If there was a problem with the Wi-Fi, it is likely a provider issue or an issue of too many devices in the home trying to squeeze service from one router. In trying to help preserve energy in this day and age, we do have the thermostat set at 70 degrees Fahrenheit. As a standard, San Diego Gas and Electric states “A setting of 68 degrees Fahrenheit during the day and 55 degrees Fahrenheit or lower at night is recommended”. In addition, we provide an extra blanket at the foot of the beds, and a number of blanket-throws in a basket next to the fireplace.
