My family have been involved on Eleuthera since the late 1930's. I love this island and it's friendly people!
Matthew Simon and Kristin Tornow purchased this cottage in 1997
If you are looking for a chance to relax, away from the madding crowd...listen to the waves, walk along a virtually deserted pink sand beach, going on for miles...dine under a canopy of stars...then this is what you will find at 'Pebbles'!
Excellently well decorated and fully equipped! Right on the beach...with stunning views! Everyday is slightly different, depending on the ocean!
We spent seven nights at this property in April 2016 to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary. Us being privacy seekers this was the perfect getaway. The property was just as described in advertisement but the pictures do not do it justice. The view and the ambiance are spectacular. We hade the beach to ourselves every day and the sound of the surf lulled us to sleep every night. There is a vegetable farm just down the road that sells direct to the public so fresh fruits and veggies are easy to get. All of the people we met in Governors harbor were super nice and willing to help with any questions or information. There were some wi fi issues due to a thunderstorm that passed through the day before we arrived but we contacted management and they took action immediately to resolve the issue. They will not get you booked in here and abandon you . We have already booked our next stay and are looking forward to getting back to paradise . Yes, we would recommend this spot to family and friends and already have.

The description and information in all the documentation about Pebbles was right on. The pictures were accurate reflections. When we walked through the door we felt we were already at home. The setting is much more and much better than we expected. Pictures in brochures were unable to capture the intense beauty.
We had the pleasure of interacting with the owner, the property manager, and the booking agent. Whatever they say, they mean. They all bent over backward to made sure everything was in ship-shape shape. One morning the coffee pot died. We were able to get a few cups and called the property manager. Five minutes later the owner showed up at the door with a replacement from her own house. We call that exceptional caring service.
The property, the cottage, and everything around it was in immaculate condition. It is difficult on islands to win the battle against the salt elements, but these folks immediately jump on anything that goes wrong.
Yes, we recommend this place. It is probably the best location on the island. The beach is private, clean, romantic, alluring. Most of the time we had it completely to ourselves. This is only one beach of many. The protruding reef right in front of the cottage acted as a breakwater from the Atlantic swells. The easterlies kept the mosquito and biting bugs at bay.
Governors Harbour became our home for 10 days. Everyone in town were genuinely helpful. They throw a mean Friday night party with music that makes the stiffest of people come alive with the rhythm of Caribbean. Town is very convenient and offered about all we needed. We wanted for nothing. A lot of good local restaurants with help all going out of their way to please. We picked up anyone walking and all of them were grateful and appreciative. We found it hard to wave at locals before they waved at us. Even when on the main island road going through various settlements the locals were quick with smiles and friendliness. The island is clean. Kept that way by islanders who take pride in their country.
We could not rate which restaurant was the best. They all have their charm and personalities. Same for the beaches. All-in-all we found the food at all the restaurants we visited to be delicious. For two of us, it is difficult to have a glass of wine and a meal for less than $70 and that includes tax and tip. We found portions to be generous and many times an evening meal became tomorrow's lunch.
We'll be back!
A great accidental find. Property fits Internet description perfectly. Beach better than expected. Owners were lavish in their welcoming and ensuring everything met or exceeded our expectations. Property Manager efficient, quick to respond, personable. Booking agent thorough and responsive. All were anxious to make sure we had all we needed and were comfortable (one morning our coffee maker died. We called the property manager and five minutes later the owner showed up with a replacement from their house).
The attentive service by everyone never quits.
We could add nothing new to the pages and pages of accolades and praises written in the guest log. Pebbles is midway up the island and accessible to anything without a long drive. Locals treated us more as guests than tourists. Smiles were genuine. All very willing to stop whatever they were doing to give directions or "Eleuthera according to the locals."
Almost perfect weather while there. Were pummeled for five minutes by a passing squall while sitting chest deep in water. Spent the moments watching how rain makes the water mushroom up when it hits water.
All the beaches have their own personality. We found a few that worked for us. Never crowded and always private. Others on the beach often found their places and stayed put allowing us to be ourselves or find ourselves without intrusion. Blood pressure must have dropped twenty points or so.
Roads are narrow and daunting at first. Left side driving. Luckily, no round-abouts! Not a single light on the entire 120 mile stretch of the island. Some back roads to beaches look like overgrown driveways. With the thick jungle constantly encroaching on the roads and grass growing tall between tire marks, you wonder how two cars could possibly pass if they met. But it all works out.
Putting a vehicle in your travel budget is a must.
A person can feel quite at risk and vulnerable in a foreign country. Not here. We gave anyone a ride and they all appreciated the lift. They thank by holding both hands and saying "God bless you." At the Friday night Fish Fry tourists, land owners and locals alike meet and mix in this convivial environment. The music will grab you.
A final word about Pebbles and the entire support staff from owner to booking agent... you can trust whatever they say and whatever you read.
My wife and I stayed for five days and nights at Pebbles. It was a joy! Right on the water! Great walks. Great swimming. Charming host and hostess very knowledgeable about the area. Sent us down to the Island School--a must see. Lots of privacy, clean and very comfortable. We heartily recommend it!
I had a chance to stay at Pebbles cottage, and later in the main house during my first visit to Eleuthera. Eleuthera is indeed one of the most low-key vacation paradises I have ever been to, and the setting of this estate is all you could ever dream of - right on the beach with nothing else in sight for miles. Yet it is only a few minutes drive from Governor's Harbour. The cottage is simple and homey but with all the amenities, very in tune with the overall ambiance on the island. The management is most attentive.
My wife and I were celebrating our 5th anniversary, and booked Pebbles for the weekend. What a great property and location! I highly recommend it for a quiet, romantic weekend. We had a brief chat with some neighbours down the way, but otherwise had the beach to ourselves. The accommodations were great, other than a damaged kitchen door perpetrated by the prior tenants (see previous review). Grab yourself some cocktails and get down there!
Eleuthera is one of the larger islands of the Bahamas. It has some of the most beautiful secluded beaches to be found anywhere in the world. There are more places for quiet picnics, snorkeling, beachcombing and dining by the ocean in one of the excellent restaurants.
Pebbles is on an 11 acres private estate called On the Rocks, which is located between Governor's Harbour and North Palmetto Point on the Atlantic side of the island. The best beaches are on the Atlantic side and the cooler summer breezes too!
No high rise buildings, large hotels or casinos! No crowds or traffic jams!
Rates are for the first 2 guests. Additional guests at Pebbles pay $200/week. Babies under 2 are free.
