Jan Dickinson: I live in Sydney Australia. I have lived between Australia & Italy for twenty five years & I am delighted to share my knowledge of Italy in helping you with trip-planning & all aspects of your holidays, to make your trip special. This is part of our service at no extra charge.

Why Janine Dickinson chose Florence Historic Centre

My dear friend Josie & I bought this apartment in 2000 because we fell in love with Florence over many years & finally realised our dream to live a Florentine life. Over this time we have been thrilled to share the feeling of being a Florentine with our guests, who come back time & again. Some of our guests come every year & many truly feel it is theirs too.

What makes this apartment unique

Some of the things I love most about the apartment are: the sense of belonging - when the tourists go home at night the city is yours. I love being able to put my head out the bedroom window, look to the right & see Cosimo de Medici on his great charger, in Piazza della Signoria. I love Daniela's glorious fruit shop right at our door.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Dear Jan,

We are back home after spending two wonderful weeks in your apartment. We had a great time in Florence. Thank you for all the useful information you provided to make our holiday so memorable.

We did so much in those two weeks. We went to the markets at Scandicci and met an Irish girl who owned the bottle shop. Had an interesting cooking class with Francesca that started at 9 am at the markets and finished at 5 pm.....very full and satisfied with the delicious meal we cooked and shared with her. Lots of eating in wonderful restaurants and our daily coffee and breakfast/lunch at ChiaroScuro in the Corso.

All in all a wonderful trip.

Thank you for providing our accommodation it was just what we wanted.

Hope to stay there again if ever we return to Florence.

An amazing location in Florence with everything you would need.

We stayed in Jan's apartment for just over a week in May 2017. Initially a little hard to find (very bad taxi driver) we were delighted to be welcomed to a very large, beautiful apartment that obviously is a home, well furnished and with every comfort of home required. This apartment is right in the heart of Florence, a few steps from Palazzo Vecchio, a 100 meters from Duomo etc. The most magnificent fruit and vege shop across the street and any number of restaurants, osteria and gellateria within a few minutes walk. We both stayed in for a few nights sampling the delights of the markets (full kitchen) but also enjoyed wandering the streets to choose a suitable dinner venue. Always coming 'home' to Convivio was a pleasant experience. All in all a wonderful place to stay enabling us to fall in love with Florence. One small annoyance was the noise from the pub across and down the street, kept us awake a couple of nights till the small hours.

Like coming home

  • 5 of 5

This is the third time we have stayed. It was cosy & warm the whole time. We cooked most nights. Had lunch out. The beds are wonderful & had a friend to stay on the new sofa bed in the study with its cloud topper, which she voted a winner. The fruit & vegetables right at the front door & also the fish shop, were our staples. Always help at hand with questions, Rosemary and Jan had given us lots of great advice. We are looking forward to our next visit.

Fantastic location, generous size, many amenities!

  • 5 of 5

Outstanding location, between Piazza della Signoria and Cathedral in center of historic Florence! An easy 15 minute walk from train station after taking the bus from the Florence airport. Responsive “key holder” showed us the appliances and gave us the keys. Helpful instructions in guest book and signs in kitchen and bath. Large, well furnished (traditional style) apartment with large living/dining area, narrow galley kitchen, wide corridor/“study” area between a small, functional bathroom and large bedroom. Generous living room with two large and one smaller sofas, ottoman, side table and coffee table. Dining area for six has cupboards for many dishes, bowls, serving plates, and glasses. Many additional touches not often found in rentals: TV and CD systems (did not use), umbrellas (did), books, etc. While confined, the functional galley kitchen has a small refrigerator, four burner stove, oven (did not use), dishwasher, microwave, etc., and good supply of flatware, knives, cooking utensils, pots, etc. and some staples. Determine what staples are there before grocery shopping; we found pasta, spices, vinegars, and other items. We made breakfasts and three dinners. A small Conad grocery store is a block away; a fruit/vegetable store with some wines is right across the narrow street. We used the number 4 (1¾ hr.) and number 10 (35 min.) washing machine cycles, drying rack overnight, and iron for the last dampness in cottons. We used the local phone to contact the local representative who promptly replaced the empty lighters for the gas stove. The internet worked well, although we had to reboot the router twice. With the superb location, we walked everywhere from the apartment – Oltrarno, Accademia, Sant’ Ambrogio Market, everywhere! Many restaurants, cafes, bars, and specialty shops are within easy walking distance, if not next door. A few “heads-ups:” No elevator -- be prepared to walk to 2nd floor with luggage/groceries. High ceilings -- January’s weather meant a cold apartment most of the time; the small bathroom heater had almost no effect. AC/heating units in bedroom and living room would probably have limited utility on hot days too. Street noise -- The living/dining area faces an inside courtyard. The bedroom/bath face the street, which can be noisy, especially on weekend nights. Especially in busier seasons, ragazzi may carouse in streets well after midnight; take earplugs. We HIGHLY recommend this apartment and would definitely stay again.

Owner's Response: hanks for the lovely review Elizabeth. I'm glad you had a lovely time. I am horrified to hear that the heating was not on! The reverse-cycle air-conditioning has a huge compressor out side and should be one permanently - it keeps the whole apartment very warm for the winter and cool for the summer. I will certainly be ensuring that no one arrives to find it off again. It was great to have you and I look forward to your next visit. All the best Jan

Excellent location, amenities, hospitality

  • 5 of 5

Our 5 day Florence visit was enhanced by staying in Jan's beautiful apartment. A few minute's walk to many attractions, food, and gelato. Jan and Rosemary were most helpful about answering questions and giving tips. We walked all over Florence and I can't think of a better location for an apartment. The groceries 5 steps from the front door was an unexpected bonus.

Spacious and beautiful apartment in the best location!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I celebrated my birthday in Florence and stayed at the Convivio Apartment. Not only is it centrally located, close to restaurants, the Duomo, & Uffizi Gallery but the apartment is well equipped, very spacious and nicely furnished. We loved that there was a fresh fruit stand just steps from the front door. Janine gave pearls on what to see and how best to use our time. Everything was provided so one could essentially pack clothes then purchase a few items from the local shop if necessary. We ate out most days because we were constantly on the go. We plan on staying at Convivo when we return.
