I grew up in Tomahawk, moved away, raised a family and returned to my home town. I inherited this home from my dad. This home was designed with large gatherings in mind. Like my dad, I enjoy people and enjoy sharing my home with family & friends and welcoming new friends. I also have my own private apartment in this home. When I am not working I enjoy music, fishing, boating, yard work, cross country skiing, hiking, and being outside. Most of all I love to spend time with family and enjoy travelling to see my kids and grandkids. Of course, they also enjoy coming to visit me, too. My home holds many wonderful memories for my family. The maintenance on this home is huge. When my son & his wife introduced me to VRBO it transformed my vision of this home from burden to blessing and from "for sale" to "for keeps." It's been exciting to upgrade this house and to make this a little piece of heaven on earth for all who gather here.
Ellen purchased this house in 1996
The land has been in the family since the 1960's. The home was built with logs from family property in 1980 by my dad. It is my desire to share this amazing place with others. If you desire to have a retreat or craft event or a wedding there are excellent catering options in the area!
As an artist it is an inspiring place to rejuvenate & be creative. I've had church retreats, quilting retreats, scrapbook retreats, family reunions, weddings & receptions, & much more here. Ample room for multiple families! Perfect for Thanksgiving, Christmas or other Holidays.
This is an awesome place for multi-family gatherings, craft retreats, corporate or church retreats, & quiet getaways! 15 acres! While the living area can host a party of 100 there is also plenty of personal space for everyone in this large home. And the view is amazing! A soothing retreat from the normal routine of life. Very close to grocery & shopping. Experience your own personal lodge! Create your own craft, corporate or church retreat. Bring tents & have the best of both worlds. Book this home for your wedding rather than a banquet facility for a dreamy setting!
We rented out this great cabin for a bachelorette party weekend with about 22 people. The group was mid 20's all the way up to 60's. This cabin offered many different areas to sleep which was nice for people who wanted a quiet night or people who wanted to stay up late! Having two kitchens was also helpful for cooking and storing all of the food/drinks. Everyone really enjoyed the size of the cabin and all the amenities the Ellen had to offer.
The only draw back to this cabin was the water/lake. The shore line was pretty much unswimable. We were there during some really hot days in August and the lake was pretty cruddy to swim in. Some girls took floats out but said it wasn't much better in the middle either. However, there is nothing that the own can do about that!
There are some close by local bars to go to and the town does offer some grocery stores and gas stations. If you forget anything a trip to the store is not far away.
We would all come back and stay again. Ellen was a great host and was able to answer all of our questions. THANKS!
Our family needed a place to have a "Pepper Reunion", and we found it in this wonderful cabin just west of Tomahawk, WI. Pepper's wish at her passing was that our family would get together. Ellen's cabin was "perfect" for the variety of ages, from 1 month to 83 years old and it has wonderful usability for large groups (ours was 19+)--yet small group settings are found throughout her cabin and property for games, card playing, boardgames, cribbage boards, pool table, movies (DVD), books and toys. Photo ops abound for group, activity related, and nature pictures (deer, squirrels, bald eagle, geese, cardinals, baltimore orioles, goldfinches, cedar wax wings, and many more). Our family loves music and the piano was played daily. Cooking was a dream with 2 fully equipped kitchens including a professional grill, 6-burner gas stove top and 4 ovens (2 of the 4 convection ovens) upstairs, and a stove/oven combo in the lowest level, with a walk-out option that works perfectly for grilling and eating in or out. We used the canoes and boat and caught one meal of fish. The sleeping options are more than advertised and the lowest level is enough for a family of 5. "Priceless" is the best description for the memories that were reviewed and made during the week at Ellen's cabin! Thank you Ellen, we will never forget our visit to your cabin.
Our family tries to find a central(ish) location each year to get together. Due to family circumstances, Wisconsin won out this year to celebrate Grandma's life. We came from Florida, Tennessee, Ohio, and Wyoming - parents, four siblings, their spouses and children - for a week on the lake in Wisconsin.
It couldn't have been more perfect.
Despite having a full house, we didn't feel at all crowded. The kitchen(s) were a dream for our family whose love language may just be serving delicious meals. The spacious yard and amenities were wonderful for the 7 wild and crazy children. The beds and showers were comfortable. The porches enabled us to have an incredible morning or evening view without the mosquitos. And I indulged a lot in long forgotten piano time, which was just what the doctor ordered.
Ellen was incredibly gracious and responsive to all emails and requests leading up to our trip. During our visit she made herself available as necessary as well.
I absolutely would recommend Ellen's Lodge to anyone. It has all the comforts you could wish for (and more), but in a location that truly feels like you're getting away from it all.
Ellen...thank you, thank you, thank you!
My family and I planned a last minute get away to Tomahawk and came across Ellen's cabin in the homeaway website. So glad we did! Ellen was great from beginning to end. She answered all of our questions and made herself available at all times. The cabin was awesome! Very spacious and fully equipped. We had a great time outside by the bonfire during the night and during the day we enjoyed the beautiful scenery. I highly recommend this spot as your next getaway!
Our family reunion included fifteen people aged 8-82. We had plenty of bedding and nice mattresses. Multiple ovens and two refrigerators made cooking easy. All the groceries we needed were available in a medium sized Tomahawk grocery, ten minutes away. Appliances were modern and the cabin layout was family friendly. The younger kids enjoyed making a blanket fort in the loft area, where they could spy on the kitchen and living room activities. The teenagers had space of their own. We enjoyed the piano and guitar, which are unexpected pleasures in a rental cabin. We played pool, ping pong, and card games indoors. There were three large dining areas, easily accommodating kid meals, adult meals, and card games. The large porch was four season with views of the lake. The property is nicely removed from the highway and neighboring properties. We enjoyed campfires in the fire pit and games like soccer and capture the flag in multiple large fields surrounding the house. Three kids caught walleye in the lake and many of us took canoes to observe an eagle's nest nearby. We all had a lovely time and wished we could stay another week.
The cabin was incredible. It was extremely spacious and the house was equipped with the essentials and then some to make your vacation very pleasant. The cabin was in very good shape, absolutely no bugs! I would definitely recommend this place to anyone in the area, it is well worth it. Thanks for the incredible experience :)
