Photos and Description of this 1 bedroom holiday estate in San Cristobal

Estate, 1 Bedroom + Convertible bed(s), 1 Bath, (Sleeps 2-4)

Take yourself back in time when life was much simpler. Come and stay at a real working farm. The Tree House is located on a 13.5 acre private estate in the Beautiful Valdez Valley just 6 miles north of Taos.

The Tree House is a fairy-tale cottage, hand built by the owner, who is a Taos artist and metal sculptor and furnished with handmade furniture and antiques. There is peace and quite except for the rustling of the giant 200 year old cottonwoods and the rushing of the Rio Hondo River as it makes its' way to the Rio Grande. The Tree House has a balcony that over looks a 100 ft. pond with French geese and Mallard Ducks.

A short walking distance on the other side of the property is the working part of the farm, consisting of Alpacas, Ducks, Geese, Chickens and of course the gentle Great Pyrenees dogs that watch over all. You are welcome to feed the Alpacas, learn about their history and in early summer you might even see a cria (baby Alpaca) or you can walk to he top of the hill and watch the chickens.

There is lots of wildlife in the Valley and you might occasionally see a Bear, coyote, Deer, Fox or even an Elk on the property.

We are located half way between Taos and Taos Ski Valley. About a 10 min drive in either direction.

Come stay with us and enjoy tranquility in the Land of Enchantment.

About Jun Greathouse

Jim and Jun Greathouse moved from Southwest Kansas for the health benefits of the northern New Mexico climate. Both Jim and Jun are art lovers and this also gave Jim an opportunity to cultivate is art career. Jun also has an alternative medical practice specializing in homeopathy and nutrition.

Jun Greathouse purchased this estate in 1996

Why Jun Greathouse chose New Mexico

We purchased this property because of the beauty of Valdez Valley and the mountains. The closeness to the town of Taos and also to Taos Ski Valley.

What makes this estate unique

It is wonderful to sit on the Tree House balcony looking out over the 100 ft. pond watching the ducks and geese and listening to the sound of the river as it makes its' way to the Rio Grande.

Amazing oasis

  • 5 of 5

We spent three nights in the tree house and really enjoyed ourselves. The Taos area is quite dry but the property lies in a green, fertile valley at the base of the mountains. Jun helped us settle in and offered to let us meet and feed her alpacas the next day. They are beautiful, curious animals and we spent time in the enclosure with Jun getting to know them and their habits. The property is well maintained and the pond directly outside the tree house is beautiful. A flock of wild ducks stops by for special treats Jun provides each evening. A couple of chairs at pond side make a relaxing place for a glass of wine after a day of sight seeing around Taos. Thanks Jun for a great stay with you.

Wonderful, Peaceful Stay in Taos

  • 5 of 5

This was an absolutely amazing stay with Jun Greathouse in Taos. The farm was incredible and Jun was pleasant enough to show us around the property and give us some of the Taos history. The treehouse was extremely quaint and comfortable and was surrounded by such beautiful landscaping and metal art. It was quite serene. We enjoyed every moment of our stay on the farm. If we ever get a chance to return, we'll certainly be staying here again! Thanks for allowing us to visit! Jeff & Sarah.

Beautiful little house in lovely setting

  • 5 of 5

This tree house is carefully and artistically designed and makes maximum use of its idyllic setting . Sitting on the front balcony looking out over the lake or sitting down by the waters watching the shifting reflections as the sun moves over from the mountains to the trees is all I need from life. However there is much to see, do and eat in Taos and it is all easily accessible from here. We enjoyed many open houses formerly lived in by by artists and traders and the Taos pueblo among other things. Then, to return, was a pleasure too.

The window above the bed can be opened to give fresh air at night in summer. I am sure that the little stove makes it snug in colder seasons too. Altogether too short a stay.

Thanks to our host and hostess.

Beautiful, serene get away!

  • 5 of 5

The owners were great. Such gratuitous hosts. The place was very clean and had everything we needed (excepting steak knives, but we made do). The property was calm and peaceful. During the day, it was nice just watching & listening to wildlife. In the evening it was great to bbq our dinner, then transition to siting around the fire pit, listening to the creek behind us and looking at the stars. Spent the part of one day visiting nearby Taos & another exploring Red River. If you are looks for relaxation, this is definitely the place for you.

My wife and I booked the tree house through VRBO for three nights and it turned out to be among the best decisions we've ever made. Jim and June set the overall tone of the property by their painstakingly attention to their guest's needs. This attention to detail and kindness not only applies to their treatment of their guests but to the treatment of their dogs and alpacas as well. You can feel the love and kindness as it radiates throughout the property. We felt like we were the most important guests in the world because Jim and Jun made us feel that way; Jim and Jun are two of the nicest human beings we've ever met and their spirit and vision is evident throughout the farm.

The home itself is quaint, clean and cozy and is exactly as advertised. The home is filled with Jim's creations and they are a sight to see. Because the property is so exceptionally beautiful, we made a point to walk the grounds as much as possible. We explored the lavish and beautiful landscaped grounds by taking in the rustling of the beautiful cottonwood trees; listening to the rushing Rio Hondo river as it traverses the property; and soaking up the various animal sounds. This is a truly magical place and we urge travelers to visit this place for it is unlike any other property and no hotel or motel can compete with it.

The home includes a dishwasher, laundromat and all the kitchen appliances one would need. You should simply relax, take out a book and sit on the marvelous deck as you sip a glass of wine. You may be disturbed by the sound of ducks and geese in the pond but don't worry the sound is one's music to one's ears. One last word about Jun. Jun is very knowledgeable about Tao's history and, in addition toeing a spinner and weaver, is an excellent conversationalist and is a joy to be around.

Overall, we hated to leave the tree house but we can't wait to return in the future, GOODBYE TREE HOUSE!

Perfect Spot!

My wife and I stayed in the tree house for two days and the only problem we had was that it was not long enough! Jun is a wonderful hostess, and the property is peaceful and relaxing. The pictures on the tree house do it no justice, it was much more than we expected. We can not wait to return for a longer stay in this quite and cozy location.
