Take yourself back in time when life was much simpler. Come and stay at a real working farm. The Tree House is located on a 13.5 acre private estate in the Beautiful Valdez Valley just 6 miles north of Taos.
The Tree House is a fairy-tale cottage, hand built by the owner, who is a Taos artist and metal sculptor and furnished with handmade furniture and antiques. There is peace and quite except for the rustling of the giant 200 year old cottonwoods and the rushing of the Rio Hondo River as it makes its' way to the Rio Grande. The Tree House has a balcony that over looks a 100 ft. pond with French geese and Mallard Ducks.
A short walking distance on the other side of the property is the working part of the farm, consisting of Alpacas, Ducks, Geese, Chickens and of course the gentle Great Pyrenees dogs that watch over all. You are welcome to feed the Alpacas, learn about their history and in early summer you might even see a cria (baby Alpaca) or you can walk to he top of the hill and watch the chickens.
There is lots of wildlife in the Valley and you might occasionally see a Bear, coyote, Deer, Fox or even an Elk on the property.
We are located half way between Taos and Taos Ski Valley. About a 10 min drive in either direction.
Come stay with us and enjoy tranquility in the Land of Enchantment.

Jim and Jun Greathouse moved from Southwest Kansas for the health benefits of the northern New Mexico climate. Both Jim and Jun are art lovers and this also gave Jim an opportunity to cultivate is art career. Jun also has an alternative medical practice specializing in homeopathy and nutrition.
Jun Greathouse purchased this estate in 1996
We purchased this property because of the beauty of Valdez Valley and the mountains. The closeness to the town of Taos and also to Taos Ski Valley.
It is wonderful to sit on the Tree House balcony looking out over the 100 ft. pond watching the ducks and geese and listening to the sound of the river as it makes its' way to the Rio Grande.
It was a perfect weekend, the property was so beautiful, it was hard to leave. We enjoyed the view from the balcony each morning and evening, the fire pit to roast marshmallows, and the grill to make a steak dinner. Our 6 and 8 year old boys were so excited to learn about the animals, and Jun was so sweet to spend time with them. Very nice couple. The property was very clean and cozy.
This location is perfect, situated right inbetween Ski Taos and the town of Taos. Beautiful views, kind hosts, and a nice place for either 2 or a family of 3.
We absolutely loved our stay here. We plan to come back maybe in the summer. Jun greeted us our first day, and she is just about the sweetest person we have met. She took us on a tour of the property and explain to us everything they've done with the buildings and the alpacas and all the animals. We purchased some of her for handwoven alpaca goodies. We met Jim our last day, and he was very nice and very welcoming. The property itself is gorgeous, there is lots to look at. Ducks, a goose, alpacas, dogs , wildlife ,trees, river , and Mountain View's were all very comforting to us. The treehouse is a very restorative and peaceful place.
Came here for a skI trip to taos ski valley. It's located perfectly between the ski valley and downtown toas. The tree house has perfect amenities and space. Nice little kitchen, nice shower with good pressure and great tempurate, electric fire wood burner for heat and a washer dryer downstairs.& Highspeed internet!!!!!!
Owners are very sweet and accomadating. Totally recommend this place if you're looking for a unique NM place to stay.
The first MOST important thing I will say about the property is that it was extremely clean. Second, we never lacked for hot water or warmth. This little tree house was cozy and lovely and exactly what my family of four needed during this winter/Christmas holiday. We brought our 5 and 10 year old girls to New Mexico for a white Christmas and we got that and a lot of hospitality along with it :) I will say, make sure you have a 4wheel drive vehicle if you are staying in the winter (which they specified on the property description and we did have). If you can make time during your stay, talk with the owners, they really are lovely and hearing the history of the property and about the animals made it tons of fun for my kids. Thanks Mr. and Mrs. Greathouse for showing us a wonderful time and providing a wonderful place to stay on our first trip to Taos!
