About Marti Miesen

My husband and I are transplants from Lincoln City Oregon on the Pacific Ocean.

We came to the East Cape 17 years ago, and feel in love with the pristine area and the people. I became a Mexican citizen. Our lives have been enriched with the Bed and Breakfast we run, meeting the most wonderful people from around the country. Many have become good friends, and return to our paradise year after year!

Marti Miesen purchased this house in 1997

Why Marti Miesen chose Baja California Sur

We are in a unique area, away from all the beach vendors and noise. Only 18 miles away from restaurants and shopping, and 9 miles away from our local Restaurants Zac's, and Vidasol, you can have it all! Beautiful white sand beach all to yourself, with the comforts of big hotel amenities! We will aspire to meet all your needs to make your vacation experience fun and memorable.

What makes this house unique

You won't get the private beach and environment that we have at Boca de Las Palmas in the general San Jose and Cabo area. The East Cape is the last bastion of peace and tranquility, where the developers have not yet started to develop.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Where to begin? Marti was a gracious host and, from the beginning, she was like a long, lost family member who just happened to have a secluded, beach-front property in Mexico and wanted to cook us an amazing breakfast every morning. Our adventure with Marti began when she met us at the Hertz rental car agency and directed us to the Mega grocery store so we could buy a 24-pack of cervezas (and for her to stock up for our week's breakfast). She is fluent in Spanish, so when you find yourself looking for lard free tortillas and can't read the nutrition label, she is patient and more than happy to help. Next is the most important thing to know: have her take you to Zac's. It's in the middle of nowhere and you'll be second guessing yourself for following this lady into the bushes, but you will not be disappointed. You will be starving from your flight, so go there and order tacos and margaritas. And then go back the following night and order more tacos and more margaritas (because you will be surprised at how awesome you feel the next morning). Our crew was a group of 5 so we slept 4 people in the guest house and 1 person in the extra room in the main house. In the guest house is a bed and a fold-out couch and one bathroom; in the main house there is a bed and a private bathroom (note: we could have comfortably slept 6 people as all the beds are quite large). The guest house has a kitchen and all silverware, dishes, pans, and glassware were provided. Bedding was also provided. No issues there. The hot tub and pool were great and cleaned regularly. In fact, everything was spotless and Marti's staff, who lives on site, busily cleaned the guest house and extra room each day while we ate our huge, home made breakfasts. Speaking of breakfast we had shrimp omelettes (twice!), huevos rancheros, breakfast burritos, french toast, waffles, and a creamy egg scramble (trust me on the creamy egg scramble, it was the most-talked about breakfast item since this trip). And let's not forget the gigantic, fresh fruit plate every morning. It was unreal. Don't be hesitant to stay away from the tourist crowds especially if you want a truly relaxing vacation. Marti and her husband were glad to talk with us throughout the day, but were also fine just letting us do our own thing. If you feel like you might want to visit the city, San Jose del Cabo was only a ~40 minute drive from the house and Cabo San Lucas was only another ~30 minutes after that. Thank you so much Marti, Lloyd, and

I can't even begin to tell you what a wonderful vacation we had and the best part was meeting Marti and Lloyd. The property had all the amenities to make a fabulous vacation, private guest house, pool, spa, and ocean. LOTS of ocean. You could look down the coastline and the best part was you felt like you were on an island all by yourself. No people for miles. Marti prepared whatever your heart's desired for breakfast to start your day off and after that, relax on the beach, by the pool or take a drive to one of the many small towns. However, our favorite part of the day was when Marti and Lloyd would take their dogs for a walk on the beach and visit with us. We so loved their company. We would go back in a heartbeat if work allowed but we will be back as soon as we can! As long as it is available, we will never stay anywhere else.

Owner's Response: We so so enjoyed having you Christine and Mike, and so did the furry kids. You both were so gracious and we loved sitting with you in the evenings on the beach watching the stars, laughing, talking and letting the kids (dogs) have a bit of last minute fun before bedtime. We welcome you back with open arms, when ever your schedule allows.

East Cape Paradise Tim N

  • 5 of 5

Our group had a wonderfull time with Lloyd and Marti. They have managed to build a true "off-grid" retreat with something for everyone!!! The pool and jacuzzi, right on the beach, was fantastic, and kept our 11 year old (non-ocean minded) child entertained for hours!!!! That comes in handy when the surf comes up for us surfers. The beach is very clean, and our walks and swims were a real joy.

The pool side breakfasts were incredible, especially all the fresh fruit!!! I still can't get over that Marti ans Lloyd grow their own pineapple!!!

Marti and Lloyd have a real, and very contagious, love for animals. We all loved meeting their various loving and ever so friendly "family" members and look forward to another visit soon.

East Cape surfing adventure

  • 5 of 5

Our experience with Marti and Lloyd at their home was awesome! Here is how it went:

1- Marti met us at the airport took us to stock up on food for the week. We followed Marti to their home on the East Cape.

2- Marti had tools we needed to fix a broken fin box on a surfboard and was super generous to let us use anything she had in the shop.

3- We had rental car problems and if it weren’t for Marti and Lloyd our entire trip would have been ruined. They supplied us with a can to fix the flat tire and get back into town.

4- When the battery on the car went bad we used Marti and Lloyds portable charger to start our rental.

5- Marti fed us breakfast every morning working around our surfing schedule.

6- Accommodations were great and perfect for the beach!

Overall I would go back any day and stay at this place. I would highly recommend this place and the owners are great people who have no problems being awesome!

Looking to RELAX

  • 5 of 5

The last 5 years we have stayed at Boca De Las Palmas because it is the ultimate vacation spot. We enjoy the the guest house as the king size bed is comfortable, kitchen has everything you need, very clean and well maintained! Private and secluded location and it's just beautiful on the East Cape. The beach and ocean front is awesome because you can walk for miles and miles and have it pretty much all to yourselves.

Lots of activities from fishing, boogie boarding, surfing, horse back riding or just kick back on a lounger by the pool. The owners are very helpful, kind and just wonderful people that will make your stay comfortable and will even pick you up at the airport or take you into town. Highly recommend this B&B

Fabulous B&B Directly on the Sea of Cortez

  • 5 of 5

If you want to step away from your day-to-day life, this is the spot! Boca De Las Palmas

offers all the privacy and beauty a person could desire. This is a lovely B&B that is located on the beach -- actually miles of beach along the Sea of Cortez. We had a wonderful time

wandering the beach, which we had entirely to ourselves, and playing in the water.

I loved reading out on the spacious patio and then watching for the occasional whale spout or breach or the stingrays to jump out of the water.

Lloyd and Marti are such gracious hosts who were very kind and helpful to us. Marti met us at the airport and helped with rental car issues and then took us shopping at the grocery store. Marti also arranged our whale watching trip as well as pointing out a few of the local landmarks and restaurants. We certainly enjoyed the margaritas & tacos down the road at Zak's! And Marti's wonderful, made-to-order breakfasts each morning will spoil you in no time.

I know many tourists wonder about personal safety. This part of Mexico felt absolutely safe -- we

drove ourselves about San Jose del Cabo and the countryside and never had a moment of unease.

I felt as safe there as I do at home in small town, midwest, USA.

Another concern of traveler's is water quality and you have no issues with water there . The water is purified onsite and you can drink right out of the tap as you would at home.

The landscaping, patio, and living quarters are all immaculate. If you want to cook or grill instead of

eating out, you'll find all the cooking utensils you need in the casita's kitchen.

We had a wonderful vacation at Boca De Las Palmas. Marti & Lloyd, thank you for the peaceful, sun-filled vacation! We loved it there!

Cabo Pulmo is about 45 minutes from our place. It is one of the most beautiful reserves left. Snorkeling and diving are the name of the game, and qualified people can be hired to take you out.

We have horses on our property to ride on the beautiful beach and up the arroyos,(water washes). Our property is right in the heart of the best surfing on the East Cape of the Baja.
