Country Cordwood is a very unique vacation cabin nestled in the mountains of East Tennessee. Close to the Appalachian trail, ski resorts, Bristol Motor Speedway and situated on a blue ribbon trout stream, it is a relaxing location away from the stresses of everyday life. It is minutes from Watauga lake, a large TVA managed recreation lake known for it's clean water, good fishing, swimming and boating.
Easy access to the Tri Cities of Johnson City, Kingsport and Bristol as well as Boone NC and Abingdon VA. Butler is a rural community in the history rich upper East Tennessee region. Less than an hour from Interstates 26 and 81, it is accessible by good roads year round.
The owners live on the property and maintain a small mountain farm with a wide variety of semi-exotic animals and livestock.

Your hosts have raised nine children on the adjoining property. We are a homeschooling family and operate a family manufacturing business, here.
Karen Visser purchased this cabin in 2004
This cabin was built entirely by our four sons, with Dad's oversight, as a homeschool project. Working every Saturday, from daylight until dark, for nearly three years, was a tremendous family experience and educational opportunity. The result is a handcrafted cabin with unique charm.
Nights around the fire ring, picnics and cookouts, peace and solitude. Lots of recreational opportunities, hiking, biking and boating.
Great little cabin in a beautiful area. Owners were very friendly and helpful.
Had a wonderful stay at the Country Cordwood Cabin. The cabin itself is well stocked with everything you need. I stayed there in September for one week on a fishing trip with another group who stayed close by in Bristol. It was such a nice treat to step away from all the hassle of surrounding areas and have a quiet place to rest after sightseeing, and fishing the Watauga, and South Holston rivers all day. I will definitely be back! Cannot say enough great things about this rental!
Karen and Greg have a wonderful cabin to rent on their property. I cannot recommend staying at their place enough. It is quiet and very close to most attractions within a half hour or hour. The pictures do not do it justice. This place is beautiful. They do have a healthy trout stream that is very close and I had much success. The cabin comes with everything you would possibly need for a comfortable stay and is very clean. My girlfriend and I will definitely be back. Thanks again, Charlie
We just recently returned from a wonderful long weekend at this cabin. Karen is an amazing host and you can truly just bring a bag and enjoy the weekend. She included so many items to make this an easy and comforting stay. We were in town for the Bristol race weekend and the cabin is a short 40 minute trip to the track. It is also very close to the lake and numerous outdoor activities! We can't wait to come back and have another stay.
What a lovely weekend in this Tennessee mountain cabin. We so enjoyed out time in this compact yet spacious home. There was plenty of room to spread out in the comfortable downstairs area. The kitchen was well equipped with a table that seats six comfortably. There were books, games and dvds available and plenty of seating in the living area. Everything was clean and the owners were very gracious and helpful. They anticipated many of the needs we might have had. We enjoyed visiting with Karen and found her more than willing to answer our questions about the area and suggest things to do. If you want a place to getaway from the hustle and enjoy some quiet this is it. The hike to nearby Laurel Falls was well worth the hour plus it took to get there.
Love the fact that this cabin was built by the Visser family with love and attention to detail.
We felt very comfortable with the furniture and beds. Fishing in Doe creek was fun catching trout. Local Watauga lake is beautiful and worth renting boats out of the marina. The Butler Museum is a must if you enjoy the rich history of an American city tucked away in the mountains.
Karen Visser went above and beyond through communication and help answering my questions.
Games on site included volley ball net, croquet, corn hole, board games and puzzles and lots of family movies. If you like to read there are scores of books to choose from.
Tv and cable worked great with DVD players too. Full kitchen with all essentials for cooking and clean Frig ready for making meals.
Best part was the fire pit and dry wood which we enjoyed every evening, roasting marshmallows and talking.
Convenient to the Appalachian trail for hiking, the Virginia Creeper trail for biking, Watauga lake for fishing and all kinds of water recreation, Roan Mountain State park
