About Elizabeth Listowich
We live only 18 miles away in Kingfield, and purchased this property as a family get away when our children were just babies. They grew up here, learned to swim right off our dock. We've had many happy memories of our place.
Elizabeth Listowich purchased this Cottage in 1995
Why Elizabeth Listowich chose Embden
We've had so many wonderful times here, its time to share our lovely setting with others! Embden is a beautiful lake with lots to offer most anyone. The camp was originally dragged across the ice before the east shore road was even built, in the early 1930's. The old structure was pretty tired, and we were granted permission to rebuild it, keeping it on the same footprint which is only 35' back from the waters edge. The yard enjoys a lovely patio area, as well as a firepit right at the lakes edge. This property has much sentimental value with wonderful family memories made with family and friends for many years. At night we listen to the loons and a local barred owl. We can gaze at the stars and hear the water lapping on the shore. The swimming is fantastic, with the water clear, cool, and deep. Embden Pond is a very clean spring fed lake.
What makes this Cottage unique
The camp is down a narrow classic wooded road, located on 8 private acres with over 330' of lake frontage, so you will have a private setting with your own dock. We have a sunfish and several canoes and kayaks, or bring your own boat and launch it from the public boat launch down the lake. The sunsets are lovely and we can see Sugarloaf Mountain from our own chair-lift swing by the fire pit!

Home Away from Home
This idyllic little cottage on crystal clear Embden Pond feels like home the moment you see it. I recently spent two weeks here with my dog and enjoyed all of the comforts of home, with the beauty of the pond, and plenty to do nearby if you like to venture off. The weather was great, the water was warm, and Hyde-Away offers a perfect setting to truly disconnect from the noise of everyday life. The house is spotless and the views are one-of-a-kind. Betty Ann is a gracious host and each year she welcomes us back to a familiar place with everything just perfect. We are looking forward to returning for another summer! Thank you for a great stay!
Hyde Away Heavenly Bliss
We absolute loved it, and hope to return next year!! We were not sure how our kids would handle being unplugged for an entire week, but with the swim raft, fishing, kayaks, canoe, and fire pit there was never a dull moment! The house and landscaping were beautiful with so much unexpected privacy for a lake house. Betty Ann was just great and also told us about the history of her family’s beloved camp. We can’t wait until next year!!!
thank you Laurie, we are so happy you enjoyed your stay at Hyde Away! We look forward to having you again next year too.
Another beautiful trip to Hyde-Away! .. Thank you Betty Ann for being such a gracious host. It was a wonderful two weeks for me and for 'Luke' (he was in doggie paradise!). Everything about being here is simply perfect. No detail has been overlooked and I always feel right at home from the moment I arrive. Looking forward to returning next year!
So glad you enjoyed your time here, we look forward to your return next year!
Great house and property
Beautiful and peaceful
Hyde-Away is a true hideaway
Do you want to enjoy a quiet and peaceful getaway on a remote lake in northern Maine? Do you enjoy listening to loons while you lay in bed gazing up at the moon and the stars? Do you enjoy drinking your coffee sitting on a dock with your feet dangling in warm, clean water as you watch kayakers paddle by and you listen to waves lap the shoreline? If you answered yes to any or all of the above, you should definitely consider a stay at Hyde-Away. My husband, our dog Zoe and I just returned from our fourth and longest stay at Hyde-Away and we cannot say enough great things about the cottage and surrounding property, the lake or Betty Ann. The cottage is cozy and immaculate offering lots of bright sunlight through the many windows and wonderful breezes on the screened-in porch. The yard has lots of space to spread out from the landscaped walkways and flower beds to the dock and the fire pit with scenic views of Sugarloaf off in the distance. And there is ample privacy from the cottages on either side so you feel as though you have a piece of the lake all to yourself. There is a raft a short swim from the dock where you can enjoy the clean, calm waters of the lake as you bask in the sun. And I would be remiss if I failed to mention what a fantastic host Betty Ann is. From the initial email inquiry through your entire stay, Betty Ann will ensure that you have everything you need to enjoy your time at Hyde-Away - kayaks, a canoe, even books and board games are available for your use. Believe me - you will be so immersed in all that Hyde-Away and Embden Pond have to offer that you won't miss the TV or the internet at all.
thank you for your wonderful review. Our family has created many happy memories over the years and we are happy to share our 'Hyde Away' with others to make their own. We hope you will come back again!
A true gem!!!
Our week at Hyde-Away was not enough!!! The key focal point is the view, whether it be from inside the cabin or from the beautiful grounds. We ventured to Bar Harbor, Acadia National Park ( was able to get a life time senior pass for any National Park for $10.00!!), Moxie Falls, Moosehead Lake and the B52 crash site on Elephant Mt. The kids went on hike to Baxter State Park while the wife and I relaxed at the cabin with the granddogs!!! if a winery is on your list then Younity Winery is a must!! Located in Unity about 50 miles from the cabin. The owner's name is Clem and let me tell you he's quite the character.WEB: WWW.YOUNITYWINERY.COM. Came home with a case of several varieties of his wines!! Betty Ann THANK YOU for sharing your little piece of heaven with our family!!
Come and enjoy our Hyde - Away! This is a classic Maine camp that has been newly rebuilt to offer all the comforts of home, yet our place still holds the old time charm of a bygone era. One of the first camps on the East Shore of the pond, enjoy the privacy of a large wooded setting with long frontage located in the heart of the western Maine Mountains on beautiful Embden Lake (180' deep and spring fed!) Home to fishing, kayaking, day hiking, mountain and road biking. There are lots of wonderful local places to explore. Enjoy wonderful sunsets from the patio or dock, sit by the campfire at night and listen to the loons. While the lake is deep and clear, the water warms nicely so swimming is a must! Local towns are a short drive away for necessities or to take in a movie. Lakewood Theatre, Golf Course and restaurant are just a short drive away. Come and relax in the woods of Maine, you won't be sorry you came!
