Description

Photos and Description of this 3 bedroom holiday home in Fayetteville - Deepwood House

House, 3 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 2 Baths, (Sleeps 6-7)

Located on the crest of Mount Kessler, surrounded by forty acres of wooded hills and pastures, and engulfed in a tranquil forest of Maples and Oaks, Deepwood House provides an ideal retreat for small groups, families or individuals who desire a unique, private, and relaxing place to stay while visiting Fayetteville.

The award-winning architectural masterpiece, constructed in the Ozark tradition of cedar wood, stone, and glass, was designed by the late former University of Arkansas Architecture professor Herb Fowler, who aptly christened it 'Deepwood'.

The home is fully furnished and equipped, with a master bedroom and bath and two guest bedrooms sharing a second bath. All the floors are natural flagstone, which beautifully compliment a massive stone fireplace dominating a cozy living room. It has a spacious deck nestled in a mature maple forest with views down into Fayetteville and a huge stone patio for barbecuing and entertaining.

Deepwood House can accommodate up to six people, but day-use accommodations for more can be arranged. It is a great venue for weddings. Forest and meadow paths are available for those who like to walk, bike, or run.

The meadow in front of the barn is the venue for the annual Finger Mountain Breakdown, a home-grown October music festival featuring local bluegrass, old-time, roots and singer-songwriter music.

Deepwood House is so close yet a world away.

Why Anne Butt chose Arkansas

Built by the architect Herb Fowler in 1944, the Deepwood house has a rich history and was inspired by the 'built-in-nature' designs of mid century architects such as Fay Jones and Frank Loyd Wright.

Fantastic property in the deep woods!

  • 5 of 5

The Deepwood House was truly a masterpiece and an oasis in the hills outside Fayetteville! Neil, the property manager, was amazing and made sure everything was just perfect! The house was extremely comfortable for 3 couples. The kitchen had everything needed to cook and entertain. The deck overlooking the mountains was breathtaking and the hiking trails offered miles of terrain for exploration. Deer roaming around all around the property. Highly recommend this house to anyone who is looking to relax and enjoy Mother Nature. And, only be 10 minutes away from Fayetteville! We'll be staying here again!

A great hideaway that is close to everything...the last mile of the road is uphill gravel...not the best for motorcycles but we managed.

What a special retreat: secluded, stylish, and close to everything. We wished our stay was longer.

  • 4 of 5

We were so excited when we arrived at Deepwood House! The architecture is one of a kind, the setting was so tranquil. We were able to rest from a long drive, plus enjoy hiking on trails that begin only steps from the property.

Because it is located at the end of a gravel road, we were concerned that the first day's heavy would make the road impassable. It was not a problem at all.

The house was appointed with everything that was needed. Even when it was discovered that the coffee maker was not getting power, we simply let Neal know about it. He solved the issue while we were at the Razorback game.

We could not have asked for anything more except time in our schedule, in order to enjoy this unique property.

Perfect!

  • 5 of 5

Our stay at the Deepwoods house was everything we hoped for. We had our small wedding outside at the house and stayed the weekend with our closest family. The setting was secluded and beautiful. It was the perfect place to spend quality time with our family and friends. Neil was always available and helpful whenever we needed him. Thank you, and we will be back again!

Like living in a tree house!

  • 5 of 5

This is an architectural gem! Cannot even explain all the details that went into the design of this house. It is spectacular! Cannot even imagine how this was built back in the 40's. The drive up to the house is like leaving the real world for a fantasy world far removed but yet it is minutes from the highway and the University of Arkansas. We thoroughly enjoyed our little retreat! The linens were new, rugs new, towels new. This family takes great pride in the maintenance of this masterpiece. The caretaker lives on site so your every need is met as soon as is humanly possible. We plan on many return trips. What a treat to stay in such a gem!!

Everything we expected PLUS fantastic service.

  • 5 of 5

What a great place. Onsite (but unobtrusive) caretakers go above and beyond to make everything perfect.

This property is everything the photos and description lead you to believe. Quiet, woodsy, yet still close to town and services.
