Guestbook comments from the owner

A very beautiful property with super nice accommodating owners. Great access to the lake and the ATV trails right from the front door. The deer walk right up to the back door everyday. Another few days and they would have been eating from our hands. Look no further if you are looking for a clean, private, spacious place to spend some time in the Moosehead Lake Region.

Just a great house in a great location!

  • 5 of 5

The pictures just can't do this house justice. It's beautiful wood interior and vaulted ceilings are a perfect compliment to the stellar views to the west of the lake and the sunsets. If you like piece and quiet, which is only interrupted by the sounds of nature, then you'll love it. The house is impeccably decorated and the living room is warm and comfortable. The upstairs master bedroom has outstanding views and a comfy sleep number mattress. The delicious clear well water was another treat. Sitting out on the deck at night and viewing the Milky Way in all of its glory was also something special. Honestly, I can't think of enough good things to say about our stay. It's just the perfect place to discover a beautiful area.

We absolutely loved our vacation at this charming home.

  • 5 of 5

I cannot say enough about how much we loved our vacation at this property. The photos do not do justice to this charming home with so much character. We loved the views, the deck with the hot tub and swing, the balcony off the bedroom, the fireplace, the deer, the privacy, the smell of the fresh air...I could go on and on. We were very sad when it was time to go back home and we hope to visit again. Thank you for the memories of this beautiful vacation. I will never forget the beauty of the Moosehead Lake region.

Absolutely breathtaking!

  • 5 of 5

Words cannot begin to describe how beautiful this house and property are alike. From the moment you walk through the door you feel at home. The layout of the house is perfect for entertaining family and friends. The house is close to town but far enough away to give you that secluded Maine feeling. If you are looking for a place to relax and explore nature and all it has to offer, then this is the house for you. I gurantee you will not be disappointed. My only regret is that I didnt stay longer. Thanks again Carol for sharing the magic of your home with my family and I.

Lovely Spot but needs work

  • 3 of 5

The house does sit on a hill in Beaver Cove and is very peaceful with an expansive deck with a hot tub but there are several things prospective renters need to know:

1. I wouldn't call the views "amazing." You will see nothing from the two bedrooms on the lower level. The view from the first floor is Ok but is obscured by a lot of trees that aren't going to get any smaller as time goes on.

2. The upstairs master has the views but no bath meaning a trip down a steep set of stairs. No fun at night.

3. The hot tub is great but when we arrived it was lukewarm, at a very low water level and no bromine to keep it clean.

4. Lighting in the2 baths is awful. Don't try to take a shower in the evening. Once you pull the shower curtain, you're in the dark.

5. Apparently the hot water heater is on some kind of timer and shut itself off several times. So we had to manually turn it back on and then wait for water to heat up.

6. The outside deck boards and stairs are in bad shape. If I had a hammer I could have spent some time to pound back in the nails sticking up. Don't walk around with bare feet oh you will get a splinter. A jagged section peeled off and almost stabbed me in the foot.

7. When you arrive, you have to make the beds yourself. When you get up on the last day and have to be out by 10:00, you are told to wash all the sheets and then leave them folded on the beds. If not, you'll be charged an extra cleaning fee. Guess what. We were here to relax, not serve as a maid.

I LOVE the Moosehead Lake area and will be back. But not here.

Owner's Response: Dear Bruce and Karen, How unfortunate that you did not enjoy your stay ! We apologize for the temp of the hot tub but as soon as you called me regarding this we were there to reset the temp so it was usable your first evening. Sometimes power surges occur and the temp needs to be reset. Our advertisement of the property indicates that there is no bathroom on the third level so we feel there is no misrepresentation regarding this feature. In addition the view that is posted is from the top level and we still feel it is amazing..especially the sunsets. I'm sorry that you didn't enjoy this feature. We pride ourselves on trying to keep our costs competitive and do not charge a cleaning fee which can run any where from $100 to $250 for a property this size. Our rental agreement states that you have the option to pre pay for cleaning services if you wish which you did not request. We just ask that the property be returned in the condition it was received. The bed linens are typically left on top of the bed to indicate that you are putting fresh linens on. This is the first time a guest has complained since we started renting in 2010 regarding our cleaning policy. We will evaluate our lighting and deck and appreciate a heads up on these items. Thank you Carol Dufour

Love, Love, Love This Place!

  • 5 of 5

This was our second year staying at Carol's property in Beaver Cove, ME and we can't wait to get back there next year! It truly is the quintessential Maine experience -- a gorgeous house secluded in the woods with a wood-burning fireplace, hot tub on the deck overlooking the lake, deer to feed in the backyard, and moose to be found everywhere! If you're looking for a quiet, relaxing place to get away, this is it. And Carol is a wonderful hostess -- many thanks again!

Charming hilltop cabin

  • 5 of 5

Just ten minutes from Greenville (a starting point for Moose watching trips and hikes), this charming wooden cabin has a great view of the stunning Moosehead Lake. There's plenty of room for six people (our party): a spacious but cosy lounge flows into a kitchen and dining area, with a large upstairs bedroom, and two further bedrooms downstairs.

There's a tranquil, wooded garden at the back of the cabin that is visited by a family of deer most days, and a hot tub on the deck to watch the sun go down.

We did some short hikes (maps and suggested trails in the cabin), and of course went moose-watching. We took a canoe-trip with Steve from Northwoods Outfitters in Greenville and after half an hour on the water at West Branch Pond, we were rewarded with an amazing close-up encounter. As we hugged the shoreline, a magnificent male moose, resplendent in full antlers, came crashing through the trees and into the water to feed.

After a long adventurous day, the cabin was a great place to come back to, to chill out with our friends, to cook a meal and unwind. We stayed three days, but we'd definitely come back for longer.
