I never get tired of morning coffee while enjoying the views of Georgetown Lake. Puffy clouds, mist, wildlife, or a sunrise...there is always something different to take in.
I love to entertain for friends and family at the property. The spacious kitchen is open to the great room and is a pleasure to prepare a great meal while enjoying guests and the views.
Our family recently spent 11 fabulous days here, our 2nd year in a row. The home itself was incredibly clean, comfortable, well equipped, and loads of fun! The seclusion and quietness is perfect, yet close to so much activities. Will be staying again for sure!
Very nice place, great location ,warm , comfortable, easy access to trails and surrounding area.
Our family (including the dog) spent a wonderful four days in this beautiful home on Georgetown Lake. The photos are true to form, and Dave was very helpful prior to our arrival. Already thinking about planning another visit in the summer!
We have been coming to Georgetown Lake periodically over 15 years; we've stayed at motels and have rented houses. This is our 5th house rental at the lake and certainly ranks very close to the top. Why not at the tippy top? If we had all four kids with us I'm not sure they would have been comfortable sleeping in the basement. Nevertheless, the location and view are excellent and the size was perfect for the four of us in the three bedroooms. The home is well stocked with everything a family could need, groceries notwithstanding. Never ran out of hot water and the water pressure is awesome. No bugs found their way inside during our stay, the window screens worked! The basement is unfinished and has additional sleeping and is also where the TV is mounted with DVD. Our daughters are a bit "finicky" so we didn't spend much time in the basement, which was fine. The decor of the home is perfect for a cabin! If I had a critique it is that the first step leading up to the front door is rather high which didn't affect us but could be an issue for the very young or elderly.
We had daily visits from moose, one in particular enjoyed the fire pit area. Hiking right out the door was great (spotted a coyote). Near dusk drives around the lake for animal sightings yielded more moose, a bear (on the other side of the lake), numerous deer, fox and an owl. Fishing on the lake was productive: rainbow and silver trout were plentiful. The weather encompassed just about everything Montana could throw at us in a summer week: cold, hail, torrential rain, thunder and lightning as well as blazing sun! Managed to get day trips in to Butte (every time we go here we wonder why we spent the time bothering - sorry Butte), Anaconda (nearest for groceries, fishing license [warning if you have kids fishing you need to know the last 4 of their SSN for the license - required some phone calls home], great coffee shop), Philipsburg (Gem Mountain is a must!), and Missoula.
David, the owner, checked in with us to make sure we had what we needed. They have an abundance of literature neatly stacked of things to do and places to go for guests as well as wildlife guides. Games and fiction books were available in the home as well. All around great summer getaway coming from western Washington! Highly recommend!!!!!
Beautiful lodge with panoramic views of the lake and mountains. Very well equipped and super comfortable facilities including kitchen, bedrooms, bathrooms and deck. We are in our seventies and enjoyed a family get together with adult children and grandchildren...the place accommodated all of us with ease. We explored the charming town of Philipsburg, played on beautiful lake Georgetown, biked the area and played golf on the great Anaconda course. Our 6 year old grandson said it was "the best day of his life".
The beds and linens were top of the line and the master bathroom was fabulous. The great room has an impressive fire place and we enjoyed a cozy fire on one chilly evening. All in all, a very special place we would highly recommend.
We've stayed here in both summer and winter. We drove in from the Butte airport. The cabin is easy to get to, not remote but quite private. In the summer the hiking up behind the house is beautiful - woods, meadows with wildflowers, wildlife, and views. Walking around Lake George we saw 2 moose, hiking behind the cabin there were several deer, and sitting around the dining table we watched a big gray owl diving into a snow bank after something. We skied at Discovery, which is easy to get to and a great ski area. After skiing we enjoy the fireplace and the view of the ski area across the lake. And we could wake up to the view from the bedrooms. The big entry way is really nice so all your gear, boots, wet stuff can hang up, dry out, and be out of the living area. The cabin is very nicely decorated (listing descriptions and pictures are reflective), and well equipped. If you don't feel like cooking it's a short drive to 7 Gables or Brown Derby for a beer and a casual meal. The place easily accommodated our group of kids and adults but was cozy enough for the nights we had it just for 2. I would definitely recommend this to friends and family, it is truly a great cabin in a beautiful location.
Under a vast sky providing endless days of sunshine, set against the dramatic backdrop of the soaring, snow capped peaks of the Anaconda Pintlers, is the stunning alpine body of water known as Georgetown Lake.
At 6,425 feet above sea level, averaging 16 feet in depth, Georgetown Lake expands over 3700 acres. It is nestled within three mountain ranges; the Anaconda Pintlers to the South, the Sapphire Range to the West and the Flint Creek Range to the East. The closest municipalities are the historic mining towns of Anaconda, 14 miles to the East and Philipsburg 10 miles to the North.
The Lake, encompassing both Deer Lodge and Granite Counties, was created in 1885 by damming N. Flint Creek. Originally used to produce power, the lake is now primarily used for outdoor recreation and to provide water to down valley ranchers.
The Lake is home to large populations of trophy sized rainbow and brook trout as well as large numbers of kokanee salmon. This blue ribbon fishery, along with some of the best ice fishing in the state, is rated Montana’s most prolific lake with more fish caught per person than any other lake in Montana.
Large tracts of the Deer Lodge National Forest and other public land provide prime habitat for abundant wildlife and big game. This, along with a myriad of nearby rivers, streams, creeks and mountain lakes, trail systems that extend hundreds of miles, challenging Discovery Ski Mountain, 3 nearby golf courses including top-rated, Jack Nicklaus designed, Old Works Golf Course, make the Georgetown Lake area a recreational paradise and one of the most beautiful places in the country.
It is also the perfect family getaway. Leave the computer and video games behind and watch your kids catch their first fish, scream with delight as they come across a moose 4-wheeling to a remote mountain lake, help you build a fire for your camp side dinner, conquer the moguls on a snow board, take to the air kite boarding or quietly watch a grazing herd of elk. Georgetown Lake will create the memories that will last a lifetime.
