Overview

About the property

Beautiful Modern Style Home, 3 Bedrooms+Loft, 2 Baths (Sleeps 11), Open Land

Unique architectural style. Beds for 11 in this beautiful and spacious 3 BR + loft, 2 full baths house with open floor plan, on 1.5 acres off of Ski Hill Road, between Driggs and Grand Targhee Resort (15 minute drive to Grand Targhee). Air conditioning installed--rare for Teton Valley! Great views of Grand Teton and surrounding mountain ranges through huge picture windows, plenty of privacy, and peace and quiet. It is a 5 minute drive into town, where there is an excellent, modern grocery store, a fine wine shop, several outdoors shops and outfitters, and many other stores, as well as several very good restaurants. It is 9.7 miles (about a 15 min. drive) up to the ski area, where there is fantastic downhill and nordic skiing, as well as a tubing hill.

Grand Targhee consistently gets more snowfall than any other ski area in Idaho, and has unbelievable powder skiing! Additionally, throughout the valley there are multiple opportunities for nordic skiing and snowshoeing in the winter.

When the snow melts, the trails are great for hiking and mountain biking, and there are fantastic outdoors music concerts and festivals. There is also fabulous fly-fishing in the area with 3 world-renowned rivers (S. Fork Snake, Henry's Fork, and Teton) and ~ 20 productive smaller streams within 40 minutes.

We are a 45 min drive over the pass to Jackson Hole, and an hour drive up to Yellowstone National Park. Many people say that the summers in the Teton Valley are even better than the winters--come see for yourself!

For details about skiing / snowboarding / nordic skiing during the winter and music festivals / mountain biking / hiking during the summer at Grand Targhee, check out Grand Targhee's website.

Amenities in the house include:

Main floor:

* Master BR with king size bed, huge walk-in closet, and large bathroom that includes oversized, soaker tub (jets do not currently function), shower, and double sinks.

* 2nd BR with king size bed

* 2nd full bath with shower / bathtub combo

* Large great room / den with incredible views through the many large picture windows, and TV with Roku for streaming content (no broadcast channels)

* Dining area with dining table with leaves and chairs that can accommodate up to 10 people

* Huge, full kitchen with all appliances (including Kitchenaid mixer, full-size food processor, Vitamix blender, and large crock pot)

* Full size washer and drier

2nd floor:

* Loft area with TV / DVD (no broadcast channels), 70% sized game table (ping pong / pool; air hockey does not currently function), and full size fold-down futon

* 3rd bedroom with 2 single beds and 1 queen size bed

* Anteroom with full size bed that can sleep 2 additional people

Please note that we maintain our house in a "western rustic" style that is conservation-minded. The high valley meadow surrounding the house is beautiful, and we do not trim it during the summer except within a one foot area next to the front sidewalk and around the back patio and horseshoe pit area. This is common for this area. We have not installed a lawn because that is not natural to the area, and unnecessarily requires extra water. We maintain a very comfortable house and furniture and bedding for our guests. Simply, this house and property are in a great location with spectacular views, excellent comfort, and many great amenities which we love.

Please come check out our house, and one of our favorite places on Earth. And please let me know if you have any questions or need any recommendations during your stay. I want you to be thrilled with your stay in our house and your time in the Teton Valley!

About Perry Brown

Perry is a pediatrician who teaches at a family medicine residency. Desiree is a sociology professor at a nearby university. Together, we have 1 daughter and 5 sons. We love to do just about anything outdoors as a family.

Perry Brown purchased this house in 2011

Why Perry Brown chose Driggs

We discovered Driggs and the Teton Valley back in 1999, and immediately fell in love with the area. During the winter, the powder skiing at Grand Targhee is UNBELIEVABLE, plus there are many different places to nordic ski and snowshoe. The summers are fantastic, with beautiful weather, cool nights, and unending outdoor activities that include hiking, biking, fishing, rafting, and many great outdoor music concerts and festivals. Throw in the great restaurants and outdoor shops in Driggs, how nice the locals are here, that Jackson Hole is 40 minutes away, and that Grand Teton and Yellowstone National Parks are only an hour away for some fun day trips, and you have my heaven on earth--Driggs and the Teton Valley.

Perfect all-purpose getaway near Tetons!

  • 5 of 5

Affectionately dubbed the “Crooked Cabin” by our kids, we have stayed here three times over the last few years, and we keep coming back! The unique architecture creates amazing views and a spacious feel. Comfortable sleeping spaces for many people make this ideal for a larger family gathering or just some space to roam and relax. The kitchen is fully stocked with everything you need for utensils and cookware. Washer/dryer on ground floor very handy. House is always very well stocked with all amenities you might need, clean and well-maintained. Owner and caretaker very responsive if any issues or questions come up during your stay. The garage and front mudroom make winter and outdoor sports equipment storage easy. Watching the sunrise over the Tetons through large picture windows is unforgettable. Cozy living area with gas fireplace is perfect for winter nights. Easy access to sunny back patio also perfect for warmer weather lounging or winter sunbathing. Large property great for kids to play within view of the house, and horseshoe pit for outdoor summer fun. Well-stocked game cupboard and pool/air hockey table keep all ages entertained! The location is very convenient – 12 minutes to skier dropoff at Grand Targhee! Also very close to Nordic ski trails at Alta School and Teton Canyon. Near the Teton River, so moose and other wildlife sightings are common. Short 5 minute drive into Driggs for several good restaurants and grocery shopping. We have only stayed here in winter, but the summer opportunities for hiking, kayaking, and mountain biking are boundless. We absolutely recommend this place to our friends and family. Enjoy your stay! We will definitely be coming back again soon.

When we got there after dark, the yard was grown up and it looked like the house had been abandoned.

  • 4 of 5

When we got inside , the house was clean and looked ok. The sheets and pillow cases on one of the beds were stained, which didn't look very good. The view of the mountains from the large windows were great. A few minor changes would make it more appealing.

Owner's Response: Gale, I'm sorry to hear that your initial impressions of our vacation rental home were not positive. As you probably recognized the next morning, the home is on a large piece of property, all set in a large meadow, as you might have seen in our pictures on the HomeAway / VRBO website. The meadow grass and wildflowers can grow a bit tall during the summer, but are beautiful! I can understand that if you first arrived at night to a dark house in this meadow area, how the property might have appeared "abandoned." I hope that you were able to appreciate the beauty of the open meadows and views from the well-kept home the next morning and subsequent days! I'm also sorry to hear that the sheet and pillow case on one of the beds had some kind of discoloration or stain. That was the first time I have heard a concern about this. I immediately inquired with my caretaker and cleaner about this, and after some brief investigation, we learned that the dryer is acting up and sometimes staining garments. We have actually taken this opportunity to purchase an entirely new washer and dryer set for the house, as the prior set is fairly old and an upgrade is probably due. We have also purchased new sheets, to replace those that were stained. It is important to us that guests have clean linens and towels during their stay, and have high-functioning appliances for their use! I wish that you had let me know about your concerns during your stay, so that I could have had our caretaker and/or cleaner address them promptly for you. I hope that you otherwise enjoyed your stay in our home and that you had fun in the area.

Spacious home with beautiful views of the mountains

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed a long ski weekend at this home near Driggs. It is near Grand Targhee and many trails that run through the valley. The house was spacious and boasts beautiful views of the mountains. The beds were extremely comfortable, and the mini pool table was a hit with kids of all ages!

Loved it

  • 5 of 5

We spent a week here while we exploring the Teton Range area and loved it. The pictures don't really do it justice, the place is very comfortable, and all the light is amazing.

The kitchen/dining/living room is very functional, and very comfortable. The kitchen was well stocked, and everything worked well. All the light from the windows was great.

The patio is awesome, we spent our mornings having coffee outside, and made all our meals out on the gas grill. Had a couple fires in the pit as well.

The bedrooms were comfortable, the master is very large with a nice walk in closet. The guest room is a little smaller, but still comfortable.

The master bathroom was nice, as was the guest bathroom.

We didn't use the loft area, but for groups traveling with kids it was be great.

Driving over to the Tetons is a little tedious, as you have to cross over the pass on a steep/winding road. We got tired of that drive after a few trips over. The good thing is we found plenty to do on the Idaho side of the Tetons in close range to the cabin. Highly recommend Table Mountain, Wind/Ice caves, and visiting the ski resort for hiking options using the lifts. Table mountain was probably a favorite hike of the trip, and it was minutes from the cabin. Wind Cave was also great, and my 68 year old parents were able to do that.

The owners were very responsive, and offered some great suggestions for hiking, etc.

Couple things to note:

The cabin isn't in perfect condition, some stuff is a little dated and rough, but this doesn't impact the functionality at all. Just something to be aware of.

If you use the washing machine, but prepared for some serious vibration!

The guest bathroom doesn't have a vanity cabinet, can't put toiletries anywhere

Don't plan on watching much for TV, not a big deal, but worth noting. Wifi worked well.

They have a nice little stereo to use, bring some cd's!

The grocery store in Drigg's is great, plenty of selection, and good prices

Overall we really enjoyed this cabin, we could have stayed for another week. I would definitely come back here if we decided to visit this area again. Great memories.
