Pioneer Cabin is conveniently located an easy 45 minute drive from Anchorage International Airport. We are on paved roads, midway between Palmer and Hatcher Pass. A great location for visiting the many attractions the “Valley” has to offer!
Our cabin offers 1000 square feet of living area and is nestled in the woods in the middle of a 10 acre parcel. The cabin is spacious and tastefully decorated. It has a large bedroom downstairs offering a comfy queen sized bed, a relaxing view of the woods and a good sized closet. An even larger loft bedroom features a queen sized, a roomy closet and its own private ½ bath. The downstairs bath features a jetted tub and has a separate sink and dressing area. Plenty of privacy for two couples or a family!
The living room is spacious, offering more views of the woods. It has a comfy futon sofa, a small computer desk and a dining table that seats 6. There is a new flat screen TV and DVD player (we have a good selection of DVDs that are available should you care to have a movie night!) Pioneer cabin also a gas fireplace to take the chill out of cool Alaskan evenings!
The kitchen is fully appointed and features a full sized refrigerator, gas range, microwave, toaster, coffee maker and blender.
Outside, there is a fire ring with a good supply of logs so that you can you can enjoy our midnight sun while sitting around your own private campfire. A gas BBQ, picnic table and plenty of lawn chairs add to your outdoor enjoyment. Keep on the lookout for our “yard moose” which occasionally stop by to munch on our poor apple trees!

wonderful neighborhood location, very clean and cozy, good cabin layout. There really is no wifi though. If we could connect at all we would get dumped off line as soon as a web page loaded. The problem could not be fixed and I had to spend a lot of unplanned time in town at Starbucks for wifi instead of being with my family. If you don't have to work on vacation then it is not a problem, for me it was a deal breaker.
My brother, sister and I spent a week in the Pioneer Cabin in late August and loved it. Loved the layout, there was ample room for the three of us to have our "space" and the entire cabin was quite cozy. A gas fireplace and a rocking chair made the perfect spot for morning coffee. Downstairs bath was divided into two compartments with the dressing area separate from the shower. Linens were fresh and easily replaced by our host - just leave them on the porch when you leave and bingo, they have been laundered on you return.
Lonnie was amazing and took care of any needs by a simple phone call or text. Wish we had had a month or so to stay - too much to enjoy and so little time.
Thanks, Lonnie, for our little home while we where in Palmer.
Note: we are all over 55 and did just fine on the ladder to the loft but someone less fit might have a little problem getting up to second bedroom/bath.
We celebrated a 45 year anniversary with friends in the larger cabin with 1.5 baths. The property and cabin were immaculate and homey. The gas fireplace gave out quite a bit of heat. All the amenities were in the kitchen along with teas, and coffee. Loft was private and would recommend for a family or 2 couples. Reservations were flawless and everything was better than expected. The location was terrific - you must drive Hatcher Pass. Will definitely stay here again when in the area and would definitely recommend to friends. The only negative was a weak wi-fi connection but the cabin was perfect!
My wife and I spent one week in the Pioneer cabin while we worked a business conference in downtown Anchorage. In past years we stayed in downtown for convenience. For this years visit we wanted to escape the noise, traffic and continual flow of tourists, so we looked for a convenient, full featured cabin nearby. The drive from Pioneer cabin to downtown Anchorage was an enjoyable 45 minutes through the beautiful Mat-Su valley.
We cannot say enough about this wonderful property. It is very clean and comfortable as well as spacious. The gas fireplace easily took the chill off the cool mornings, the gas BBQ grill worked great for steaks and we enjoyed the outdoor fire ring almost every night. Firewood was provided as part of the rental. The owners were terrific people who were very easy to do business with throughout the reservation process and our rental stay. They have a very reasonable cancelation policy.
The free Wi-Fi worked great. We were able to stream videos from Netflix with no issue. We could not video call with Skype as the upload bandwidth, as so often is the case, was not sufficient. You could make audio calls though with no problems.
The only negative thing I can say is that the photos on the web listing gave us the impression that the cabin was small. It is very spacious and comfortable. I would like to note that the second bedroom, which also has a half bath, is located in a loft space. You do need to climb a fairly steep ladder-staircase to reach this space. If you have any mobility issues, you might want to verify this prior to renting.
We will definitely stay here again when we visit the Anchorage area in the future.
