We really enjoyed our week at Drayton Island. The accommodations worked perfectly for our family and the location was wonderful. We enjoyed exploring the island and boating. The place is serene and allowed us to relax and have fun together.
Fantastic Weekend for our family.
What an experience! We were greated by Michael late on Friday. He made two trips over to the island to get all of us and our dogs over to Drayton Island and our home for the weekend. So courteous! We brought our boat but was too dark to put it at the boat dock so he offered his boat. We settled in for a good night's rest. A beautiful sunrise on Saturday was delightful. Such peacefulness, being away from the busyness of our everyday lives. The coffee on the porch overlooking the river was so relaxing. We set out for a short trip down river towards Welaka. There were guys throwing castnets for shrimp. We tried but soon realized our net weights were too light. A short trip up the Oklawaha was enjoyable. A few casts did not result in any fish but none were really looking forward to cleaning fish. We headed back Southward, across Lake George, all 11 miles. (Teenagers thought it was more like 50.) We had lunch at the Lighthouse Grill. Rain delayed our trip back to Drayton Island, but were were in good company. At the house, the fellows tried their luck at fishing off the dock. They caught several catfish and bream. As dark approached, we had a nice fire in the fire pit shown in the pictures. Wood was cut, ready to burn. The house was accommodating for our family of 8, even with one shower. We truly hope to return before the cooler weather sets in. Thanks to Michael, Cheri, Greg & Mark. We have a cherished memory of staying on Drayton Island on the mighty St. John's River, Georgetown, FL
My husband requested for his 50th Birthday that he wanted a cabin on a lake were he can spend a relaxing weekend with friends, family and fishing and boy did I do good when I found this place. Mike was so nice and very accommodating, ..it was everything and more...everyone we met from Georgetown Marina, Fat B's Marina, and April were also really nice, and full of information about the Island, and you can tell that everyone watches out for everyone, its a wonderful little community.. we fished, we explored the lake, the river and the island, we had a bonfire, we cooked out, we spent quality time together, but most important to me was that my Husband and my Daughter and our Friends had a great weekend because I found the perfect little getaway thanks to Mike and Home Away and I am sure we will be back again!!!
I feel horrible. I realized I forgot to write a review of my stay. I stayed hear for my 29th birthday back in June of 2014. Mike was such a great help reserving everything. The house was amazing, and perfect. I grew up on Drayton Island aND visiting here brought back so many childhood memories. I love it here, and never wanted to leave.
Quaint Cabin for a Weekend Getaway!!!
Luck for us there was a last minute cancellation on this property. Mike was quick to get back to us and we were headed out the next day. It was a short trip to the Island and we had help with loading up the golf cart with all our gear and groceries. We took wood and cooked on the grill but most of all enjoyed the comfort of being in a lakefront cabin. The cabin was very well stocked compared to others we have rented. The double beds were very comfortable and I found every gizmo & gadget I needed to prepare meals. It was too hot to fish unless going in the early morning or late afternoon but it was great weather for reading and playing with our two dogs. I would want to go back and take family in the fall when we get some cooler temperatures. We fished from the dock with no success but I wasn't willing to get up early to be serious about it. Everything is exactly as described and we thought the bathrooms were modernized nicely for our needs. I would definitely recommend this for your next getaway.
Shhh only tell your special friends.........
Firstly, Mike and Cheri where exceptionally caring, efficient and accurate regarding the rental of their special "Old Florida" hideaway. Pictures and descriptions are right on, yet only show a small portion of the treasures of to be enjoyed on this island property. Your country, island lake house is truly comfortable and unique. Since the moment we met Judith and Boo, our host, we knew we were in good hands. Her local knowledge and insight to our stay placed us immediately on track for a great time. The boat access is perfect! Close to Mikes friends at "Fat B's" and the full service bait, tackle and fuel of "Georgetown Marina". The Lake is huge, the second largest in the State but much prettier than Lake "O" and full of great fishing spots! Heavy cover is prevalent. I spoke with Adam, the fishing guide to confirm his services for our next visit. My wife and our four children from 26 to 15 came and went during our stay and all enjoyed themselves. We utilized every local tip provided by the friendly Lake George community from fishing, to having a night out at the "River Bend". We wake boarded way out in the middle of the lake, away from the gators! The springs are a "must do" with eagles and osprey. Evenings with BBQ and campfires under the big sky stars. Curious owls providing entertainment for our city dogs! Mornings on the screened porch and dock, with coffee and the quiet sunrise, watching the serious anglers zipping through the early fog toward their honey holes. Without a glitch, our four days had gone by, our hosts came by to see us off and we returned to South Florida awaiting our next visit! Mike and Cheri thank you for sharing and to those with similar family interests, do not hesitate.
