Whidbey Island 1930's Cottage on 13 Acres

Bedrooms 1
Property type cottage
Minimum Stay 2 nights

About the property

Cottage, 1 Bedroom + Convertible bed(s), 1 Bath, (Sleeps 4)

This inviting, one bedroom cottage is a 1930's gem. Located between Freeland and Coupeville on South Whidbey Island, the Artists Cottage offers privacy and unique blend of rustic elegance on 13 acres of fields, woods, and wetlands. Especially intended for longer stays, there's a well equipped kitchen, original art on the walls, and the delightful rooms boast color, texture, and warmth.

Inside there is an automatic gas fireplace, a claw-foot bath tub, while outside you can enjoy a hot tub on the back deck overlooking the wetlands and forest. The pond in the front yard is regularly visited by ducks, herons, and even deer. The beautiful Meerkerk Rhodedendron Gardens are a short walk away and the historic town of Coupeville and incredible Ebey's Prairie are a short drive to the North. More antiques and artwork can be found to the south in the village of Langley.

About Nancy or George Roberts

We raised our two boys on Whidbey Island for 18 years, while George taught school and Nancy ran a cafe. When we decided to expand our horizons, we realized we could not part with our cottage at Greenbank. It is such a special place. We added a larger bedroom, decks and hot tub, and visit as often as we can. It is a great pleasure reading the guest book, and sharing a favorite place on the planet with others.

Nancy or George Roberts purchased this cottage in 1991

Why Nancy or George Roberts chose Whidbey Island

We have owned this 1930's cottage for many years before we decided to turn it into a vacation rental. It is rare to have such privacy and 13 acres of woodlands, trees, wetlands, and meadows, all to oneself, with of course, the deer, rabbits, ducks, and birds that we share it with.

What makes this cottage unique

It is a fantasy come true... Private lush life surrounding a darling cottage, decorated with art from the Pacific Northwest simply nourishes the spirit! And a live animal planet channel right out the window!

Great location & beautiful surroundings for a romantic getaway!

  • 5 of 5

My partner and I recently stayed at the cottage for our anniversary. We loved the charm of the small cottage, and thoroughly enjoyed the unique and interesting artwork that hangs throughout. It was a welcome break from the usual "country kitsch" so many places have. We enjoyed sitting on the deck, watching and listening to the red-winged blackbirds and the swallows that swooped around the yard and the marshy area. We noticed that some reviewers commented about the noise from the road, but we hardly noticed it. Getting out of the driveway was a little tricky due to the curve of the road, but the location makes it easy to get to anywhere else on the southern part of the island. We absolutely loved our time there, and will definitely look into renting it again for our next visit on Whidbey Island!

Owner's Response: Cern, Thank you so much for all your kinds words!! I especially love it when my taste in art is reinforced by others appreciating it. There are so many undiscovered artists in the Northwest, and I support them every chance I get...We love this cottage and are glad you did too. It is , to us, a place for rejuvenation and relaxation...and art helps that as well...We hope you will visit us again... All Good Things, Nancy and George

The artist's cottage was perfect!

  • 5 of 5

What a gem! Private, wooded acreage with artsy cottage vibe. Lots of rustic charm, which is exactly what we were looking for. The hot tub was a bonus, but was not available for use the first day because it takes quite a while for it to heat up. Exceeded our expectations!

Owner's Response: Leah, Thank you so much for your kind words. We are sorry the hot tub wasn't ready. It usually is ..but the housekeeper cleaned it just before you arrived...and it does take a bit of time. We are so happy you enjoyed the cottage like we do. We hope you will return soon. All Good Things, Nancy

A sweet place for our first family getaway

  • 5 of 5

This cute, quirky cottage was the perfect place for our first official family vacation. It was really windy the night we arrived but the next day it cleared off and was absolutely beautiful! Our dog and two year loved running around the huge grassy yard and we enjoyed grilling out every night. The cottage was clean, well stocked with pots and pans and some extras in the kitchen, had an array of fun artwork and ceramics throughout, and the huge comfortable king sized bed slept all three of us (even when our toddler slept horizontally!). There was a little noise from the traffic but it's such a beautiful setting that you forget about it. It was a nice, laid back place and great for our family of three! We loved it and would definitely return.

The cottage was pleasent and homey

  • 5 of 5

The cottage was a nice 1930's style with furniture to match. The bedroom was large with a large confortable King bed and TV. The land was pretty with the bog and trees around with the grass and flowers. It was a quite, relaxing stay for us. thanks

Stay awhile in an antique house

  • 4 of 5

This is a quirky little place that is like living in a museum. We spent hours congecturing about what additions were added when. Massive furniture pieces. A very old fashioned, one piece, metal form for the kitchen sink and countertops. Must be original from about the 1940's? The original claw foot tub. The floors sloped up and down. The front entry barely cleared my husband's head but all the bathroom mirrors were too tall for me to see my face. It was fun! The kitchen had all the normal pots and pans and dishes. We hunted for frogs in the pond. We listened to the birds singing and watched them arguing over territory. There is some traffic noise but the place feels very private. No neighbors to the front or the back or the sides. The back deck has a U shape around a seating area and the hot tub, which was a wonderful place for morning coffee or a meal. A quiet alcove except for the birds' chattering. An eclectic display of 'art' on every surface. Our favorite were the rock carvings tucked away in odd places all around the yard. Walked all around looking for them
