Published in National Geographic as one of their top 50 adventure towns to visit, New Paltz is a great place for exploring. Mohonk preserve and Minnewaska State part offer 25,000 acres of hiking, biking, horsebackriding, and of course world-renowned rock climbing “the Gunks.” There are numerous farm stands and apple orchards to visit where they frequently have ‘pick your own’ options for a playful afternoon. The Hudson Valley wine trail also includes Robibero (1/2 mile away), Whitecliff, and Adair wineries all in close proximity. There are spa’s to visit, numerous shops and art stores, and wonderful restaurants. Please take some time to read the book in the house that I have put together on the areas activities.
****Please do not smoke inside the property, and inquire about additional cleaning fee if you come with your animals!

I am originally from Toronto Canada , but have lived in the States since '99.
My job had me living out of a suitcase for many years before I could finally call Manhattan my home, where after many years of living in the crazy city, I found myself some green space!
Shawn Pressley purchased this house in 2000
I happened to have been invited up to New Paltz for the weekend and it became love at first sight. The area has so much to offer, from hiking , to kayaking, horse back riding , sky diving , culinary delights with many quality restaurants opening up around town, Mohonk Mountain House & Spa, or simply, the easy drive out of the city for some peace, fresh air and tranquility.
The area itself captured my heart with the Catskill mountains as a backdrop, and the every changing Wallkill river at it's base.
I loved living here, I loved having my horses in the back yard and the dogs running around the property.
thanks. things have been just perfect. we took some walks and did some other things. It was a good chance for my wife to be with her two boys and their families. the house was perfect and everything was first class. we used a lot of firewood and enjoyed it. I was up here a lot many years ago but only on day trips to hike or x-country ski, never just to relax. thanks again for everything and happy new year to you.
I rented this home for 2 nights with my married children and 3 grandkids. We loved the place for its large fully equipped kitchen, the lay out of the bedrooms and living room/ dining room. The property was beautiful as well. The only drawback was the dog hairs and my allergic grandson and son. I did not realize that "pet friendly " means dogs and/or cats have lived on the premises. After some Benedryl and cleaning, we settled in and had a wonderful time. I do caution, however, renting if you know the guests have pet allergies. Shawn was very thoughtful in her email responses and a delicious bottle of wine she had waiting for us!
I rented the house for a week to host Christmas for my family. The house is well maintained and felt very cozy and comfortable. We had a great time just cooking with the family and playing with the kids around the fire. Shawn is very accommodating, she even had a tree stand set up and left us a bottle of wine and a bottle of sparkling non alcoholic wine for my pregnant wife! We were 6 adults and 2 small children for 3 of the days and were all very comfortable. The property is also beautiful and peaceful, every day I would walk to the river with my coffee and just watch the hawks and other birds. As well as frequent visits of groups Deer who graze the area.
We also got to visit the Mountain House nearby which is Beautiful at Christmas.
If your looking for a place to stretch your legs, shutdown for a few days and don't want to travel more than and hour and a half from NYC this is it! Would love to come back in the summer or fall to experience a different season.
Myself and a group of friends chose this house to stay in for my 30th birthday weekend - and it was perfect! Shawn was so accommodating and helpful, providing useful area information and house tips. The layout of the spotless home is great for a group as the common space is large enough for everyone to congregate, but there are enough bedrooms for people to separate and spend time on their own. As others have mentioned, one of the bedrooms is lofted/open air but this was not a problem at all for our group. In fact, it was perfect to have that space to get ready (we loved the giant floor to ceiling mirrors) and still feel connected to the happenings in the rest of the house. The fully equipped kitchen was wonderful to use (especially for a group of NYC folks who are used to having no counter space and tiny appliances!). The property itself is lovely and the location was convenient to local wineries and downtown New Paltz. All-in-all it was a positive experience and we would be happy to rent this home again!
This was our second stay in the house. Once in the Spring, and now in the Fall. Both times were great. House was very clean and well stocked with all the necessities. Plenty of space. Kid friendly. Kids loved playing in the very large yard. Owner is very nice. Looking forward to our next trip.
Nice place in a great location. Wish we could've stayed longer!
It was a fantastic week long stay, the house was perfect for our family of four. The home was clean and orderly. The beds were super comfy and the linens and towels were soft and abundant. The location was perfect for trips into New Paltz, Rosendale and Minnewaska State Park. Swimming at Split Rock was magical (and cold). The kitchen made cooking a pleasure! The land surrounding the home was serene and well cared for. We were sad to leave and hope to return next year. Thank you Shawn for sharing this special home.
