Overview

About the property

Apartment, 2 Bedrooms, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 4)

[A signed Rental Agreement, emergency contacts, and photo ids of each guest is required to secure the reservation. In your inquiry or booking request, please tell me a little about yourself. I want to ensure this Oasis is the right Oasis for you! The property is not appropriate for young children. Events, parties, celebrations, weddings are not allowed, and the number of total overnight and daytime guests allowed in the rental is limited.]

A peaceful retreat accessible to the most popular Bay Area attractions, including San Francisco and Wine Country (Napa and Sonoma Valleys), and Route 1 (north toward Bodega Bay; south toward Santa Cruz). Close to major freeways without the freeway noise.

Loved by grandparents visiting nearby children and grandchildren.

Enjoyed by explorers touring Northern California.

IS THIS OASIS FOR YOU?

Do you love a comfortable bed? Each bedroom has a Tempur-pedic brand Cloud Supreme King-size bed. Bedding is high-quality white cotton. Four pillows are provided on each bed, with additional pillows in the closet. Choose your pillow fluffiness and firmness.

Do you enjoy high-quality, comfortable, and aesthetically pleasing furnishings? A renowned interior designer selected furnishings from West Elm, Pottery Barn, Restoration Hardware. No second-hand, uncomfortable furniture. We have chosen all furnishings with your comfort in mind, the same quality, brands and styles that we enjoy.

Do you enjoying watching TV with lots of channel choice? TV is AT&T Uverse with over 700 channels plus HBO , Showtime, and numerous music channels. No bouncing around between a few local channels and nothing to watch!

Do you enjoy watching TV in your bedroom? Flat screen TVs in living room and in each bedroom.

Do you like to gaze at a rare and beautiful view? This property has a view that scans – starting from the north, Mt. Tamalpais, Golden Gate Bridge, San Francisco Skyline, Alameda Island, the Bay and its estuaries; south are the western hills that separate the Bay from the Pacific. Within this view (closer to you) are the Oakland skyline, the major port of Oakland, the new and beautiful Bay Bridge span, and AT&T park. You are looking across at an amazing panorama, and everything near you is amidst trees and greenery (ergo, Oakland!)

Do you enjoy a fireplace on cool days? The living room has a beautiful Regency gas insert in front of the sofa, operated by wall-mounted remote control.

Is Accessibility important to you? Don’t want to climb stairs to get to your rental? Although your view is elevated (2nd floor), you enter the rental from the street level. You walk from the sidewalk, along a level walkway, up one small step to a stoop, then into the front door. (More info regarding Accessibility, below.)

Don’t like apartments? This Oasis feels like a house. Entry is from the street. The owners live downstairs which is “basement” level. We are sort of reclusive 60-ish folk who value our autonomy and quiet just as we respect yours. But at the same time, we are friendly and helpful. We take our responsibility as your host very seriously and will do all we can to make sure that you’re comfortable and have what you need.

Do you enjoying sitting on a large beautiful deck with comfortable furniture? The redwood deck is architecturally beautiful with each end shaped into a “Romeo and Juliet” curved balcony. One balcony connects to the master bedroom and has large Pottery Barn chairs. The other end connects to the kitchen and has a tall, large metal bistro dining table with 4 bar-height cushioned chairs from which to enjoy the view. The balconies are connected by a straight portion where there is additional seating.

Do you like to grill outside? A propane grill (propane provided) is on the deck just outside the kitchen, and grilling utensils are in the kitchen.

Do you like to cook at home? The kitchen is fully furnished with cookware, utensils, place settings and basic condiments. Kitchen has: Wedgewood stove, microwave, Cuisine art coffee maker, electric kettle, toaster.

Can you live without an automatic dishwasher? As an interior design choice, we kept the vintage 1948 kitchen with the beautiful gas standing pilot Wedgewood stove. Our cabinets are original and of a depth that is slightly too narrow to accommodate a dishwasher.

Do you want a great full-size clothes washer and dryer? A new LG large capacity washer and dryer capable of great feats in clothes washing.

Do you like to read? An extensive library includes many travel books (lots on Northern California), children's books, novels, and books related to philosophy, political science, and art. Take a day off and take an intellectual exploration through an eclectic collection.

Do you enjoy the intimacy of overlooking a verdant garden? The expansive back deck overlooks a lush garden replete with – to name a few of the plants – a majestic poplar tree (condo to many squirrels and birds – and those Anna Humming Birds put on quite a show!), calla lilies in the winter, a robust juniper tree with juniper berries, plum trees, apple tree, fig tree, bird of paradise, spider plants . . .

Do you crave -- sitting/lying in/walking through-- a garden that offers even more decks and a therapeutic hot tub? The garden is shared with the downstairs apartment, i.e. the owners. We very rarely see our guests in the garden because we are generally on different schedules. But if we do see you, we’ll be welcoming and take your cues as to whether you would like privacy. In the garden are 2 additional decks where you may lounge, meditate, or work-out. One deck has a hot tub and seating area, covered by a trumpet-vined pergola surrounded by lush vegetation. A second "work out & yoga" deck is beyond the hot tub deck where you may practice yoga, or use the set of weights. Beyond this "work out" deck is a paver-covered meditation area overlooked by a beautiful statue of Guan Yin, goddess of mercy. For us, Guan Yin is not an object of worship, but rather a constant reminder to practice empathy and kindness.

Would you enjoy a therapeutic Hot Tub? A 6 person Sundance high-end hot tub with powerful jets. Not one of those wimpy hot tubs that vacation rentals often have!

Are you allergic to dogs or cats? Animals are never allowed in the rental.

Parking is un-metered no-restrictions street parking that is generally plentiful. Guests are usually able to park in front of the rental.

More on Accessibility: the rental’s interior is all on one level. We can make a rollator available to you upon request. The bath is a tub/shower combination with a 36” grab bar situated for showering or chair-bathing. Bathing chair available upon request. An assist-bar is at the entry to the tub/shower.

The location’s proximity to the 580 Freeway and the 880 Freeway gives you fast access to many local attractions and day trips to San Francisco, Napa Valley, Muir Woods, Route 1, Santa Cruz etc.

You are only a 23 minute drive (no traffic) from San Francisco, but you may prefer to take the scenic ferry that will deliver you all-too-quickly to the SF Ferry Building (and its many wonderful markets) or to Fisherman’s wharf.

More about the downstairs apartment: The owners live downstairs with an elderly cat. There is complete space separation between the units with no shared entrances. The owners are rather reclusive but friendly, always available for any of the rentals' needs. We own a fireplace retail business which means we work regularly and otherwise travel frequently. We sometimes use the hot tub and practice yoga on one of the lower garden decks.

About Dee Fisher

The photo is of me in front of the house. My husband and I travel frequently and whenever possible we rent a vacation home rather than stay in a hotel. We value comfort and convenience and keep in mind our own expectations and preferences when furnishing our rental. We will always choose a home with a garden, and a hot tub is always a bonus. After a day of touring and sight seeing, we enjoy sitting in a beautiful outside setting, enjoying each other and a glass of wine. We want to provide you with the best possible lodging experience to complement your enjoyment of the Bay Area. We are huge fans of the Bay Area and enjoy its offerings of beautiful nature and urban delights as though we are tourists. My husband was a frequent Bay Area visitor (from New England) when I met him here through mutual friends 12 years ago. After I spent two cold north eastern winters with him, he came to his senses and moved to the temperate climate of the Bay Area. We married 10 years ago, and he has no regrets about relocating!

Dee Fisher purchased this apartment in 1992

*Sunny, warm climate, no fog! *Views *Garden *Peaceful and Serene *Central proximity to the Bay Area, San Francisco, Napa Valley, and other tourist attractions. Within walking distance of Mills College. Close-knit neighborhood of middle class professionals. Peaceful and quiet.

What makes this apartment unique

Notes:
Panoramic view of the San Francisco Bay and San Francisco and Oakland city skylines. Beautiful, serene lush garden with sitting areas, meditation area, and pergola with adjacent decks. A meditation patio, over-looked by a statue of the compassionate Quan Yin, allows you to sit and contemplate the beauty of a redwood framed by an arbor. Our favorite backyard being is a huge poplar tree --a condo for many birds and other wildlife-- that we think may be the largest in the Bay Area. When it has its leaves, its swaying creates a beautiful music of chattering leaves and serves up afternoon shade for the deck. In almost every season, there is some fresh fruit: plums, apples, figs, or blackberries.

The house was great, very clean, very well equipped kitchen.

The beds were very comfortable.

You can see the Golden Gate bridge by day and the Bay Bridge by night.

You see the San Francisco and Oakland skylines.

The hot tub was just what we needed after days of hiking or sightseeing.

Quiet neighborhood.

Will return to this rental for sure.

A lovely, refreshing escape with all the feelings of home and charm to keep us comfortable.

  • 5 of 5

This incredibly well kept home has given my family an overwhelming impression of the city and how great life can be when properly designed. They could not get enough of the views and wildlife, the immaculate kitchen with all of its convenience, and the oh-so-comfy beds that kept them dreaming throughout the nights. A popular phrase used several times daily was, "they've thought of everything!" Thank you so very much for your thoughtful attention to detail and sharing this invigorating oasis with us.

Excellent Property

  • 5 of 5

We found everything to be as described in advertising. I will return and also tell others about the property. We only saw the owners one time, and found everything we needed along with an excellent booklet describing all possible and future needs one could possibly encounter. This was bundled with maps & brochures of both Oakland & San Francisco. Hot tub was great and grandchildren loved it. The second bedroom allowed us to have an overnighter with our

Grandchildren, with plenty of room. Tv's in both bedrooms was a plus.Parking was simple and never any problem finding a space in front of unit, or very nearby. The deck has a beautiful view of the harbor, and even better at night-seeing all the lights of Oakland and the Bay Bridge.Completelt outfitted kitchen and bathroom with more towels than you could ever use. If you possibly did there is a washer and dryer on site. A note to those considering coming-Free Parking in Jack

London Square for the Ferry to San Francisco. We Loved our short 5 day stay and will return and stay here again.
