Located at Montana's northwest corner of Lake Koocanusa, a 99 mile long lake stretching from Canada into the US, the West Kootenai, the area in which we live, has been described as 'an experience, not a location.' Thousands of acres of the Kootenai National Forest are available for hiking, biking, sight-seeing, scenic drives, fishing and hunting, the outdoors is waiting for you outside of your door. Coupling that with views of the Amish that still live in our community as well as visiting a few of their shops, adventures await you. From May through September, enjoy the Friday night Buffet Dinner at the Kootenai Kraft & Grocery, 1.5 miles from the cabin. They also provide a Saturday morning buffet breakfast.

Nestled on our 10 acre home parcel, we have strived to maintain the guest cabin's privacy. While our shop (located approximately 200' from the cabin) and home (located approximately 600' from the cabin) are visible from the cabin and located on the same parcel, we have a separate circular driveway for the cabin as well as planted trees to maintain your privacy ~ albeit small trees since the deer ate the larger ones.
Please note that we do not allow boat trailers, snowmobile trailers, RVs or campers to be towed onto the property due to our private access road. There is no boat ramp on the west side of Lake Koocanusa. The boat ramps are located on east side of the lake. However, if you do have a boat, there is a marina on the east side of the lake where you can rent a space while you are at the cabin.
Please note that we ONLY rent to guests who are non-smokers and have no pets. Our strict no smokers, no-pet policy has no exceptions as as we have numerous guests with severe allergies. If you smoke, use tobacco products, or have a pet traveling with you, we will not rent to you.
We do not currently charge a security deposit; however, in lieu of this, we do require that we have a current credit card on file in the event of damages Due to insurance regulations, there is a Rental Agreement that you must sign and return before your stay.

We first visited Big Sky Country in 1987 and made a vow, at that time, to return and, hopefully, one day live here. As life typically happens, life interfered and it wasn't until the winter of 2006 that we were able to return. And with that visit, we were unable to stay away. We returned again in the summer of 2007 and decided, with our two children, that this was where we wanted to live the rest of our lives.
Carolyn Daughton purchased this cabin in 2008
We were fortunate to find the area of the West Kootenai, an area of unblemished beauty, touching the boundary between the USA and Canada. Whispering Ridge, our land overlooking Lake Koocanusa and the Whitefish Range of the Rocky Mountains, became our full-time home as well as the site of our guest cabin, in December, 2008. Wanting to share the beauty, serenity and peacefulness of our surroundings, we embarked on the journey of creating 'The Bullet Hole Cabin II at Whispering Ridge' in the fall of 2009.
Beauty, simply breathtaking beauty. Walking access to the Kootenai National Forest to the Canadian Border. State forest and game lands one-half mile down the road. Thousands upon thousands of acres of National Forest land two miles further. Backcountry wildlife such as bear, moose, mountain lion and wolf. Waterfalls. Scenic vistas. Hiking trails. The Last Best Place - Montana. When was the last time you could hear a small bird's wings flap?
My stay at Bullet Hole cabin could not have been better! My host totally went above and beyond covering every detail of my stay in the cabin as well as a "boatload" of info about the many things there are to see and do in the area. I think they key part of the stay for me was the exemplary service I received down to the fresh baked chocolate chip cookies. What a nice personal touch! Carolyn can not only keep a great cabin, but she bakes a mean chocolate chip cookie! Definitely coming back!
We Loved the Bullet Hole Cabin. ( More of a very nice house, with all the amenities, had every thing including BBQ). Very relaxing with great view, tons of stuff to do and explore. Had a great time and will definitely do it again.
From the time we made our reservation the host communicated very well, going above and beyond by sending us helpful information about the area. When we arrived we were immediately impressed with how clean and cozy the cabin was, with many special touches. There are too many thoughtful extras so list. We enjoyed walks from our door as well as driving to surrounding points of interest. Especially enjoyed having coffee on the porch while deer casually meandered through. There are many things to do in the area that appeals to all types of vacationers
You can trust all the glowing reviews for this place! Snatch it up with confidence for a few days or a few weeks. My husband and I were here four nights in high summer and got so comfortable and relaxed that we hated to leave. We really appreciated the generous provisions (we truly had to buy only food, and even then the cabin came with all sorts of things like pancake mix, condiments, and spices), and how easy it is just to "be" there -- put a few things in the fridge, unzip your suitcase, and you're ready to enjoy yourself. There's lots to do plus detailed information provided about how to find it; we barely scratched the surface with trips to Libby, the Yaak, the sandy beach at Lake Koocanusa, and the old growth Ross Cedars. There is no A/C but the cabin is well-insulated and with nighttime cool-down it stayed very comfortable inside during a big heat wave that came through. It feels private even though you can see the main house and workshop when you drive up (and occasionally hear a few distant neighbors). And it's tastefully furnished (neither too much nor too little), clean and light, with a full complement of kitchen items, good linens, and plenty of fluffy towels. The totally private back porch with picnic table, reclining chairs, and gleaming gas grill nicely extends the functional living space and we spent a lot of time back there ( Zzzz....). Thank you, Carolyn and Don! Hope to see you again!
What a great place is the Bullet Hole cabin! On our arrival we were greeted with a welcome basket of locally made bread and cookies. The cabin is very clean and had more than enough space for our family of 4 (2 teens) and is equipped with everything we needed. We enjoyed the BBQ grill and having meals on the back porch. Being from the Houston area we were looking for an escape from the city and the summer heat, and the Bullet Hole cabin, located in a peaceful, wooded area was the perfect place. We didn't know very much about the area but Carolyn sent an information packet which gave us plenty of ideas for things to do. She and her husband Don restored the cabin themselves and did an amazing job. I'm a former cabinet maker and I can appreciate the quality workmanship in every corner of the cabin. They are both excellent hosts and we will certainly stay here again the next time we're in Montana!
Can't say enough good things about this cabin ... We were greeted by Carolyn who gave us a thorough, yet concise, overview of the cabin as well as the surrounding area. She left us a nice welcome basket with homemade cookies from the local Amish store. Definitely recommend the Saturday Amish breakfast ... Very good and reasonably priced. The cabin is well stocked (better than my home). Carolyn even provides bear spray and bug spray for hikes. We saw numerous deer on and around the property. This is a beautiful area of the country and would definitely recommend staying at the Bullet Hole cabin.
