About the property

6 bedrooms, 4 bathrooms + detach cottage (sleeps 12 in beds) Add'l air mattress

Amidst the rolling hills and dramatic Sierra Foothills, this spacious turn-of-the-century 4,100 sq ft home on five rustic acres is within walking distance from Folsom Lake. Located in Newcastle, California this historical home has a classic veranda with swings and rocking chairs.

Enjoy the working fruit orchard with over 200 trees with multiple varieties of almond, apple, apricot, cherry, grapefruit, lemon, lime, nectarine, orange, peach, pear, persimmon, plum and tangerine.

Enjoy as well the refreshing swimming pool with outdoor shower, tennis court, basketball court, ping pong table, tether ball, horseshoes, cornhole and plenty of bicycles. There's a separate pool house with pool toys, his/her changing areas and a bathroom.

The property sleeps 11-12 comfortably (4 bedrooms in the main house and a guest cottage). The air-conditioned home is decorated in a charming European style with plenty of comfortable reading nooks and quiet spaces along with five fireplaces (non-working). Enjoy the billiard room complete with vintage pool table and plenty of kid's games. Bike to downtown Folsom or old town Auburn and experience gold rush history along with fine dining, antique shops and boutiques. Nearby, there are horse stables, riding trails, wineries, golf courses, whitewater rafting, water-skiing, canoeing, fishing, camping and kayaking . We also have a new standing paddle board that is perfect for Folsom Lake. Tahoe ski resorts are an easy drive. A Property Manager couple live on the property.

Our family and siblings lives in Southern & Northern California. We have been coming to 'The Ranch' since we were kids and my father came when he was little. Once you have experienced the rustic charm, you will see how special the place is and will want to come back again. The ranch is a place where time stops. It's like stepping into a Norman Rockwell painting.

This home was passed down from our grandfather and has been in our family for four generations. It has some amazing memories and is a great place to relax and get away from the busy activities of daily life. Much of the furniture is over 100 years old and the home has a timeless elegance. It is only a couple hours from San Francisco and Lake Tahoe so is centrally located.

In the main house we have four bedrooms, three bathrooms ; the Master bedroom has a King bed and the other three bedrooms have one set of twin beds each for a total of seven beds. Two of the bedrooms are adjoining and share a bath, the Master and the back bedrooms have their own full bath.

We have five adult sleeping bags, four child’s sleeping bags and two full size air mattresses, two twin air mattresses plus blankets and pillows for everything.

The bungalow, or 'Honeymoon Cottage' as it’s called, has a bedroom with a king size bed and a sitting room with two pull-out sofas with a single bed in each. It has a small bathroom with shower but no kitchen.

The area has beautiful rolling hills for running or biking. There are a few golf courses close by and you are 10 minutes from Folsom Lake.

We have a full regulation tennis court, with an informal half basketball court, ping pong table and horseshoe pit. We have regulation horseshoes and plastic ones for the kids. If you are serious about tennis or table tennis, you may want to bring your personal rackets or paddles, although we do have older ones.

The large swimming pool has a ‘springy’ diving board and is sparkling clean and inviting. We have pool towels, a blow-up toddler pool for the little ones, some pool toys and floats, including some child friendly flotation devices but you may want to bring any favorite water toys and plenty of sun screen lotion.

We have a number of other things here you may enjoy including everyone’s favorite, the orchard, which has nearly every variety of fruit available; all kinds of citrus as well as many varieties of almond, apple, apricot, cherry, grapefruit, lemon, lime, nectarine, orange, peach, pear, persimmon, plum, tangerine and more! While here, you'll never have to buy fruit at the store. You and your family can pick your own fresh fruit off the tree. You can even take a box home with you. In the summer, you can pick fresh blackberries to your heart's delight. Perfect for blackberry pie. Folsom Lake is only a few minutes from the Ranch and you can rent horses and boats. We can help with that and there are a number of interesting local attractions, restaurants etc. we can recommend.

Note we do not do any weddings or large events.

Exceeds expectation.

  • 5 of 5

The property was beautiful, Stephanie and Don were attentive, helpful and made us feel very welcome. So many wonderful small touches that I notice but that I'll bet are missed by many.

It was a long weekend of gracious living.

Thirteen in our group spent much of our time on the front porch overlooking the great lawn.

Plenty of indoor and out door spaces to find some alone time. Birds, fruit, chickens, sounds of geese overhead, frogs at night and peacocks and emus in the distance.

Great Christmas in Newcastle, CA 2017

  • 5 of 5

For the 2nd Christmas in a row we celebrated our annual family gathering at the Newcastle ranch house - Green Hill Ranch . Plenty of space, sparkling clean, lots of things to do (bikes, swimming pool, tennis court, pool table, ping pong table, fire ring for to making s'mores,), large dining room table so that all 12 of us could eat at the same time, big screen TV for watching ball games, lots of books in the library, close to shopping for those menu items we forgot, hiking trails, etc.) We have enjoyed it so much that we are planning to return next year for Christmas - 3rd year.

It's become our Christmas home!

Perfect in every way!

  • 5 of 5

We just spent 4 magical days at this beautiful house. We were 3 couples and 5 kids and we all had the best time. The house is so big and there’s so much to do that we had to drag ourselves away from it to explore all the wonderful places around. I really can’t recommend it enough. Stephanie and Don were the perfect hosts. We can’t wait to come back.

5th Year -- Love the new(ish) managers

  • 5 of 5

We come each year, 6 adults and 5 children, currently ages 18-7. Everyone has a grand time and look forward to the vacation with anticipation. Why? Pool, pool table, ping pong, tennis, basketball, fruit to pick, to name a few. We love to cook and eat around the grand table. The managers have added some touches that make the place even better than before. New double shower heads, a spring water dispenser, a new griddle, new garbage disposal (Yeah), new swing and even chicken eggs waiting for us. We stay warm in the cool November nights because the central heat is fabulous. We bask in the wonderful bed linens and lush towels. If this is your first time considering Green Hill Ranch, you will not be disappointed. We never leave the property! The place is big enough to give everyone space to gather in groups or be alone. We spend our days visiting and doing sports activities. And there are visual reminders about the charming house to make us think of the family that owns the place -- a toast to them and their good fortune to have such a dynamic yet peaceful place to come to over the years -- and for sharing it with us! Thank you! You have given our extended family some everlasting memories over the years.

Amazing Retreat for the Father of the Bride’s Family

  • 5 of 5

My daughter planned her wedding for mid-October in Grass Valley and I was looking for a relaxing quiet get-away to treat my relatives who were arriving from all across the country. This place really has it all. It is like stepping back in time to a slower, quieter era. The decor sets the stage with so many authentic antiques, artifacts and pictures of the history of the house.

The grounds and garage are packed with sports equipment, bicycles and activities. Although we were all adults, we definitely acted much younger than our ages - taking advantage of the tennis court, basketball court, billiards table, ping pong table, horse shoe pit, fire pit, bicycles and croquet set. And the pool! I have some serious swimmers in my family and was a little worried the pool may be to short (it’s about 18 yards long), but we worked out daily and it was one of the highlights to be able to get in a relaxing swim or fairly strenuous workout. My sister swam for a full hour every day!

The on-site caretakers, Stephanie and her family, make this place so warm and welcoming. She gave a great informational welcome tour and then stepped back and gave us complete privacy, but was always available if we needed her. She provided fresh eggs from her chickens that were wonderful and the kitchen is well-stocked with most everything needed for a large group.

After the wedding, the bride and groom visited for one night and stayed in the “Honeymoon Cottage” and raved about how quaint and comfortable it was.

Everyone had a great time and was wondering about the next family event that we may be back for. All in all, it was the perfect place for this event.

Amazing Property and Service

  • 5 of 5

The ranch is an amazing place. The house takes you to a different century. The grounds are beautiful and provide tons of activities. The caretaker is helpful and completely unintrusive (is that not a word?) We had a large group and it was plenty of space. We will be back for sure.
