Breath-taking views await you in beautiful vacation villa one hour fromCannes

Bedrooms 3
Property type villa
Minimum Stay 7 nights

About the property

3 bedrooms, 2 full baths, sleeps 8

Claviers is a perched village located on the tiny D55 road winding through the pine forests just south of Bargemon.

Nestled in these beautiful forested mountains, both Bargemon and Claviers have outstanding views of the surrounding hills right out to the Mediterranean, and each other, to the benefit of both.

The house overlooks lush landscapes of olive groves, vineyards and lavender fields.

Enjoy the peaceful idyllic life of a hilltop Provence village.

One hour from Cannes where you can walk along the Croisette or St Tropez/Ramatuelle and go to my favorite beach Place Tahiti for a swim or 45 minutes from Frejus/ St Raphael.

About Aria Klees

I was born in Salon de Provence and spent my childhood in les Issambres, a small village town on the coast near St Tropez. I went to culinary school in Nice worked in many great restaurants in Nice, Eze Village, Paris, Bordeaux, England and in United States, where I have lived and worked since 1984.

I am the Chef/ Proprietaire of Bistro St Tropez a French restaurant in Philadelphia since 1987.

Aria Klees purchased this villa in 1997

Why Aria Klees chose Claviers

Provence is my home which I left in my early 20's to follow my career. After spending many years abroad, I wanted to reconnect with my roots and have a home near family and old friends. During one of my many trips home, I came across this old Bergerie (shepherd's house). It was perfect! The house, the village, the countryside, the olive groves and lavender were all of the Provence I knew and loved. La Bergerie is my retreat and I am happy to share its magic.

What makes this villa unique

La Bergerie is located on the edge of the village proper of Claviers, about 45 minutes from Nice International Airport. While being well located to many of the attractions of the Cote d'Azur and Provence, Claviers is insulated from the tourist masses, being perched on a hilltop and on a road that goes nowhere else but Claviers. It is still a true French Village, with all the local customs and endearing peculiarities that give Provence and the Provençale charm .

There are lot's of good wineries and excursions, museums, we like to recommend Maeght Foundation next to St Paul de Vence and go to La colombe d'or to eat of course in their beautiful garden but also to view gorgeous painting from Picasso to Chagall.

So many excursions are available from walking paths around the village to going to the surrounding lakes ( St Cassien or St Croix) or to the beach 1hour away.

The climat is mild in the winter, so the house can be enjoyed all year around specially spring or fall. The local market carries great produce, say hello to Patrice the butcher( same first name as mine) and go back to the bergerie opened a nice botlle of rose and enjoy your friends/ family around the patio table under the murier and have a great meal and a memorable time!

La Bergerie was perfect!

  • 5 of 5

La Bergerie was a wonderful introduction to the south of France. The views were breathtaking. The village was warm and friendly. The house itself was well equipped and comfortable.

The house in Claviers

  • 4 of 5

The house is lovely and the views spectacular! The layout of the house terrific and the kitchen most adequate. The roads a bit unnerving to American drivers, but that's my problem, not the French!

We were bothered, however, by the local mosquito population. Used mosquito coils by the dozen, but to no avail. Possible to get screens on the windows?? Or, at least mosquito netting at the beds? I understand that putting screens on the windows does not seem to be the French way, but the mosquito issue could prevent us from using the house again. My wife and my son's girlfriend were particularly bothered by the mosquitoes.

Owner's Response: Philipp, Thank you for your review I am glad you enjoyed your stay despite your battle with the local mosquitoes population. It has been an unusually bad year for them. Many regards, Patrice

Clavier experience

  • 5 of 5

Outstanding accommodations! Beautiful views from every window and loved the outdoor dining for breakfast and evening supper. Had enjoyable daily excursions! Appreciated suggested day trips which were outstanding. Hope to return to Clavier some day. Appreciated immediate attention within an hour when we had one minor issue. Contact with owner was amazing even though they live in the States.

Fabulous House with Incredible Views

  • 5 of 5

House is built into the side of a mountain; large, clean, and very well maintained. The appliances are up to American standards-- very rare in France in our experience. Owners in the US were very helpful when we couldn't figure out how to work the clothes washer; instructions sent via email solved the problem. Excellent suggestions about where to buy groceries, restaurants to try, outings to take, etc. The location is very quiet and out of the way, and the views of the valley from the 2nd floor are unforgettable! Wish I were there now!

Great Place with a Great View in a Great Location

  • 5 of 5

The propery is beautiful, in a great location, clean, and superbly maintained. We found it perfect for a family (or for 2 to 3 couples). The village is charming and it's an easy walk to a great bakery, a bar (great beer choices), a few really nice restaurants, and some truly friendly and down-to-earth people. It's a wonderful and beautiful get-away to relax, have some wine, savor the view, and forget about the frustrations of life!

Claviers is located between Lac Saint Cassien and Lac St Croix along the base of the Gorges du Verdon (the 'Grand Canyon'of Europe). Canoes, kayaks, paddle boats can be rented, the water is crystal blue/green.

Hiking is a great way to see the Gorges du Verdon. An excellent hike is to start at the Chalet de la Maline near the town of Pallud sur Verdon so and make your way down to the various beaches on the river (about 8 miles).

Moustiers- Sainte -Marie first settled in the Bronze Age,is located above the Lac Sainte Croix and is known for the fabrication of porcelaine and for the legend of the Star. The star is an ex voto dedicated to the Virgin Mary hanging between the cliffs which flank the sky above the village, installed according to the wish of the Knight of Blacas, a crusader imprisoned by the Saracens in 1210, who had promised, if returned to his village, from then, there would forever stay a star and its chain in tribute to the Virgin Mary.

Twenty minutes from Claviers is Fayence, one of the most beautiful villages in France and home to one of the best known centers for hangliding, paragliding, and ultralight aviation. Fayence also is home to the Four Seasons Golf Course and Spa. Nearby horse stables and riding centers offer lessons and trail rides.

The roads to the Riviera coastline are Provence's 'mini-Napa Valley', with many fine wineries offering tastings of the best of southern French wines.

A mere 45 min to 1 hour drive brings you to the glamour and beaches of the Riviera coast. Easy access to the major attractions of Monaco, Nice, Cannes, Antibes and St. Tropez. The beaches south of St. Tropez are the best for swimming, Frejus plage offers many water sport activities (wind-surfing, kite-surfing, jet skiing, sailing, boating) and water parks for the kids.
