Few places still perfectly preserve the ideal of the traditional white Greek island village like Kastro, Sifnos – no cars, no development, no cheap hotels – just perfect 14th century architecture, and narrow lanes that lead to Aegean sea views. Everything you need is right here unlike most self catering rentals on Sifnos where you will need a car, just drop your bags in your bedroom and head for a swim, with 3 or 4 great swimming locations all within walking distance.
Just inside the town's main gate, this private house is at the heart of this beautifully preserved architectural monument. To lovers of history it is breath-taking, to students of architecture it is fascinating. To anyone who wants a quiet couple of weeks, of sun and swimming in crystal blue water against a backdrop of unique beauty, it's absolutely perfect.
Ingenious 14th century building design uses meter thick walls to insulate and natural convection currents to keep the house cool on the hottest days. Deep window and door alcoves trap the brilliant Aegean light to spectacular effect. This comfortable house has been modernized carefully - with sparse charm and a well-stocked kitchen. There is even a small bath - quite an unusual luxury!
While maintaining the purity of the house's ancient character we have not forgotten you live in a modern world. So we offer broadband wireless internet so you can be live on your social networks, download movies and music, communicate with the world.
Its the perfect combination of authentic Greece and holiday pleasure - please drop us a line with any questions.

I have owned my house in Kastro for nearly 40 years. I renovated it around 10 years ago and maintain contacts on the island who look after the property and will take care of you. I currently live in the US but I am an EC citizen and travel frequently to my house to make sure it is in the best possible condition for your visit.
Neville purchased this house in 1976
My house, and it's location in this totally unspoiled Greek village is simply unrivaled for providing an authentic and peaceful Greek island experience. Once you arrive at the house you have everything you need. 3 or 4 fantastic swimming locations are all within walking distance. Kastro offers a variety of picturesque shops, bars and restaurants. You can spend you entire stay in town and want for nothing. Or you can adventure out across the island.
This ancient house has been very tastefully modernized with subtle lighting effects, teak kitchen installations to maintain a uniquely traditional look and feel and comfortable amenities. Most Greek holiday rentals are concrete imitations of traditional houses. Containing a few beautiful antique pieces, this house, approximately 700 years old, is unique and original.
This is my favorite place in the world. I have been many times. Staying here is like being inside a magical castle full of secret lanes and beautiful views. I love to swim below the village in the bright blue water for hours. The house is so comfortable and inviting. It is a perfect combination of ancient atmosphere and modern comfort. Maria greets you with a smile and is so helpful. They really make you feel welcome and it is an experience you will not find anywhere else. This is not a place full of package tourist. It is a destination for the smart traveller who is looking for something really special.
We stayed at this wonderful property from July 3rd to the 11th. Loved every minute of it! Maria set up a taxi to pick us up at the ferry and bring us to Kastro. When we arrived in Kastro, she was there waiting for us. She gave us a tour of the house and provided some restaurant recommendations around the island. We never actually cooked, but had we wanted to, other than food, everything was supplied in the kitchen for us to do so! The high ceilings and exposed beams throughout the house were a lovely display of the age of the home.
The house was in perfect proximity to the local bars and restaurants, which we frequented quite often -- Dolci and Leonidas were our favorites! The bus stop at the bottom of the hill was perfect to catch the bus to neighboring villages. We only did that twice, as we loved Kastro, and spent most of our time in and around the village!
This was our first time in Greece, and so happy we picked Kastro, and this property to spend it in! Can't wait to return! Thank you, Neville!
This little house is ideal for a couple who want the platonic ideal of a Greek island escape - we were there for a week and couldn't fault it, Maria made our arrival and departure very easy, but Sifnos is a small and beautifully formed place where tourists are made completely welcome. The cottage is in the heart of Kastro, it's clean, charming, full of interesting books and artefacts, and an easy distance from the bakery and nice places to eat and drink. We recommend Vathy each day for the beach, but also long walks around the coastline and villages like Artemnos and Appollonia.
We enjoyed a wonderful holiday in this beautiful house which has been restored with true integrity. The sense of history is palpable in the huge stone walls and high beamed ceilings which additionally mean that the rooms stays cool even in the height of summer. The house achieves the perfect combination of simple authentic charm and carefully prioritised modern amenities ( huge comfortable bed, espresso maker, good shower ). It is positioned just inside the kastro gate . The balcony, therefore, provides an opera box type vantage point from which to observe the comings and goings of village life. Maria, the housekeeper, is lovely, extremely helpful and friendly. Sifnos is an absolutely delightful island . Kastro is picturesque beyond words and a photographers heaven. We certainly hope to return.
Kastro is perhaps the most picturesque village in Sifnos, hugging a hilltop that crashes into the sea, and the stunning church of The Seven Martyrs will leave a lasting impression, as it seems to float on the clear waters that almost encircle the village.
This property is in the heart of historic Kastro, with three fantastic tavernas only minutes away, offering simple but perfect mediterranean cuisine beneath star lit skies. The property, perhaps 500 years or more old, has been sensitively restored, offering all you might need without over doing it. The staircases are steep, and are the original ones, retaining the integrity of this ancient property.
To be specific, the ground floor has a nice kitchen - where we made bread - a bathroom with small bath and shower, and a living area with the front door to the street. There is a mezzanine floor above, with a gallery overlooking the living area. A further stair takes you to the bedroom above, a large room with small balcony overlooking the village and from where you can see the sea.
For those requiring access to phone networks, there are places in the village where you can access wifi and mobile signals. Mobile signals are a bit patchy across the whole island, a clear benefit for those wishing to escape the pressures of city life!
The last points to mention - there is a simple bay below the village where you can swim. The beach is nice, although stony. Neville, the owner, is very communicative and helpful, as is Maria, who looks after the property, keeping it perfectly clean.
So - to sum up. Kastro is perfect, we liked the property very much, and we liked the taverna Astro best - Maria, the owner, is so charming.
We would choose this property again.
I had such a wonderful time here. The village was so peaceful and enchanting i did not want to leave. All I did was swim every day in the bright blue water. The food was wonderful, the locals friendly, and maria the manager was so helpful it made our stay one oif the best vacations i have ever had. I will go agin.
I have stayed at this house a number of times over the last 30 years. If you are looking for discos and rockin' nightlife this is not for you. If however you want to stay in one of the most picturesque villages in all of Greece(check the photos on Google)-this is the place. There are a few steps to climb but I am 62 and can still get around all of them quite easily. In the last few years the house has been updated-new kitchen and lighting and a few other bits. The village is a short walk to the pebbly beach below and there is a bus stop at the base of the village. There a couple of very good restaurants just minutes away and a small village store. I have been all over Greece and this is my very favourite place.
