About the property

Cottage, 2 Bedrooms, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 4)

Looking for a beautiful retreat nestled in the mountains or a family vacation getaway - you've found it!

Whispering Creek Cottage located in historic Little Switzerland is just off the Blue Ridge Parkway with easy access to Asheville & Blowing Rock. A gently winding mountain road will guide your ascent to peace and tranquility as you approach this adorable 1915 cottage.

Whispering Creek Cottage is owned by two artists, who have added their own decorative flair to each room. This cozy two bedroom, one bath cottage has a large full kitchen/dining area, nice sized living room and sleeps four adults comfortably. You will love the heart-of-pine floors, the sound of rain on the tin roof, fireplaces in each bedroom, large front porch and original artwork throughout.

Whether sitting on the front porch or napping in the hammock you will be lulled by the babbling creek, which runs along side the cottage. The kids will have a grand time playing in the creek and with any luck will see a salamander or a crawfish hiding beneath the rocks. Summer nights bring promises of starlit skies, catching fire flies and roasting marshmallows in our outdoor fire pit.

The small towns of Marion at the bottom of the mountain and Spruce Pines on the other side of the Blue Ridge Parkway offer plenty of choices for grocery shopping or grabbing a bite to eat.

So whether spending your days relaxing at the cottage or enjoying a day of adventure in nature ... your stay at Whispering Creek Cottage will be one that you will long remember.

Please note: INTERNET & Cell Service: We are unable to get Cell reception or Internet at the cottage. (Believe me we tried) You can get WIFI at the MacDonald’s in Marion, the Marion Library (90 W Court St. Marion, NC 28752) or at the “Crooked Door” coffee shop Main street in Marion. A break from technology is the best part of a vacation :) We do have a landline at the cottage & Satellite TV.

About Brenda Gregory

My husband and I purchase our cottage in 2006. We have put in a lot of work to renovate this 1915 cottage to make it comfortable for life in the 21st century while still keeping its early 20th century charm. It is a perfect place to get away from your everyday life. We love it so much that we want to share it with others. We hope you consider staying at our lovely cottage.

Why Brenda Gregory chose Asheville Area

I have enjoyed this area of the country for years. My husband and I are both artists and we love the fact that there are so many artist living and working in the area. We also enjoy camping, hiking and fishing and this area is great for those pursuits.

What makes this cottage unique

I find that when we stay at the cottage we can fully relax. The fresh mountain air and the beautiful starlit nights amaze us each time we come here,

Guestbook comments from the owner

We adored our 2nd stay at Whispering Creek. It gave us the much needed chance to reconnect with each other, with our children, and with nature without the distraction of modern interruption. It is truly a magical cottage that lets you forget about the not so great parts of modern life. The anxiety, stress, and ties to insignificant goals disappear allowing for the truly important connections to take over making an unforgettable family vacation that we will never forget. Our boys had a blast here, from lounging in the hammock, to throwing rocks in the creek, and roasting marshmallows in the fire pit. Thank you for sharing this enchanting place with us and allowing us to build these precious memories here with our boys!

Whispering Creek

  • 4 of 5

Well appointed and very clean. Front porch was home to incredible flock of hummingbirds. At one time 10 birds where visible.

Very clean, well equipped cute little cottage.

  • 5 of 5

We very much enjoyed our stay. The cottage has everything you need. There is a very well equipped kitchen and bathroom. Everything was very clean and welcoming as we arrived. It's a romantic spot in the mountain with a little creek next to it, ideal for older children to go on an adventure. We very much enjoyed sitting on the porch and watching the Hummingbirds.

We definitely recommend this cottage and would book it again.

Thank you,

Sandy and family.

charming cottage, convenient to Little Switzerland & the BRP, responsive owner

  • 3 of 5

This cottage is decorated in a very sweet and homey way. The owner has clearly taken a lot of care with details and captured its era while simultaneously embracing many modern comforts. Overall, I would recommend it. However, there are a few points of reality to emphasize: The drive to Little Switzerland'd downtown takes 10 minutes but is VERY windy - beware to those with motion sensitivities. Motorcyclists love the road this property is located on. If you are envisioning a daytime nap during a warm weather weekend visit when many cyclists are enjoying the nearby Parkway, please be advised that you will often hear significant passing engine noises. If your fellow guests want bathroom privacy, you won't really get any - the bathroom is adjacent to the living room and barely separated from it. Personally, I found the master bedroom mattress incredibly uncomfortable due to its squishy softness. It appears to have an added foam "egg crate" layer that you could remove I suppose. In case you didn't notice, there is no dishwasher. The fireplace in the living room is only used in non-summer months and the ones in the bedrooms are purely decorative, not functional. Also, one past review mentioned a Jacuzzi - that should be disregarded as it is a jetted tub in the bathroom but the jetted bath function appears to have been disabled. Again, we really liked the home but felt it important to include these comments to future guests as reference for setting accurate expectations. These are things we would have preferred to know ourselves in advance.

Wonderful stay

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful stay at the Whispering Creek cottage. The location was perfect: isolated enough to relax, but not too far from anything we might need. Close to many great waterfall hikes! We loved the decor of the house and spent most of our time watching the hummingbirds on the expansive front porch. We were also surprised by how well stocked the house and kitchen were -- we had already stopped for groceries but there were lots of staples available.

Home away from home feeling with a tranquility you will never forget! Paradise !

  • 5 of 5

My girlfriend and I enjoyed our getaway to your Paradise! Your artistic flair shows in every room! Such an inspiration for us as we visited to do some bead weaving. So tranquil! The birds were singing, the relaxing sound of the creek was perfect for creating! Our souls are forever filled with the whispers of Whispering Creek. Highly recommend this Getaway Cottage!

Perfect peaceful comfortable location!

  • 5 of 5

We loved our stay during the peak of fall colors! Your home is so comfortable and perfectly located to hop right on the parkway! We enjoyed our morning coffee on the front porch, hiked all day and relaxed with a glass of wine on the porch in the evenings before sleeping soundly to the sound of the creek. Loved it!
