Overview

Photos and Description of this 2 bedroom holiday apartment in Plaisance - Home in Paris

air conditioning, double glass windows, king size bed, very fast internet access

Beautiful apartment situated close to all Parisian sights. Most major tourist attractions can be reached in less than half an hour. The nearest metro is also close - 550 m, a 6 minutes walk.

Tourist attractions in the close neighborhood are the Catacombs of Denfert Rochereau, le Jardin du Luxembourg, the Tower of Montparnasse, the Rodin Museum and La Fondation Cartier.

Montparnasse is known as the artists' quarter. In the 1950s, famous people like Miles Davis, Jean-Paul Sartre & Simone de Beauvoir and Ernest Hemingway (among others) spent much of their time here. Well-known places to visit are le Closerie des Lilas, la Coupole or le Dôme.

The apartment is located in a very popular neighborhood near the authentic Rue Daguerre. This typical French market street has not been invaded by big retailers and still features real small neighborhood shops and tiny trendy boutiques.

People from all over Paris come to this pedestrian street for their food shopping, enjoy a glass of wine on a terrace of a side-walk café or savor dinner in one of the many restaurants the Rue Daguerre offers.

This bustling street reflects old-time Paris and is the charm of this lively and wonderful neighborhood.

The light and sunny three-room apartment (57m2 or 614 sq. ft.) is suitable for 4 persons. Situated on the fourth floor of a quiet building from early 20th century. Furnished with beautiful antique and modern furniture and equipped with a mobile air conditioner. The apartment is also fully equipped with double glass windows.

Several buses and metros are nearby and will lead you quickly everywhere in Paris.

Arrival- and departure day is flexible, depending on the previous and following guests. It is always possible to leave your luggage upon waiting for your apartment.

Accessibility: The apartment is situated on the fourth floor. There is no elevator.

About Elisabeth

Thank you for your interest in my profile. I have the Dutch and the French nationality and I came to Paris to work in 1981. With my husband and two children, I have been living in the quarter of Montparnasse for many years now and I still enjoy every minute of it. Now that my children are studying, I have time to take care of the rental and the guests. It is great to receive visitors from all over the world.

Elisabeth purchased this apartment in 2005

Why Elisabeth chose 14th Montparnasse

The building in which the apartment is situated was built by the great-grandfather of my husband in 1911. The great-grandmother said to the great-grandfather: 'But why are you building in the country side?' as there were just farms, cows and chicken around. The building was finished after WWI when the apartment was let to Mr and Mrs Robbe-Grillet. They were the parents of Alain Robbe-Grillet, the famous French novelist and filmmaker. Until recently, his sister Anne-Lise rented the apartment.

What makes this apartment unique

The area around the apartment is quiet and safe but lively at the same time. The Rue Daguerre is, as so many guests mention, an oasis of food shops, restaurants and sidewalk cafes. I live in the same building as the apartment and I am always available to give information and help if needed.

Superior to a hotel.

  • 5 of 5

This is the second time I have stayed in this apartment. The first time I stayed with three girlfriends. This time I stayed with my husband, teenage daughter and her friend. Both times I was extremely grateful to have a kitchen and a family room with two couches, a kitchen table and a television. It was so nice to have some space to spread out, watch a movie, make dinner if we were too exhausted to venture back out into the city. The kitchen is compact, but well-stocked. We made dinner five of the seven nights we were there, and there were more than enough dishes, pots, skillets, glasses, utensils, appliances, etc to create a well-rounded meal. Previous to my two stays in this apartment, I stayed in a nice hotel on Raspail and the room was tiny with only a bed to sit on and no place to store food. When we stayed at that particular hotel, we felt compelled to be "out and about" constantly, which was exhausting, and we spent twice as much on food. Elisabeth's apartment allowed us to enjoy some very comfortable downtime in between seeing the sights and save some money.

I believe the previous reviewer had a few negative comments that I would like to challenge. Yes, the floors creak. But they are old and beautiful and add to the charm of the apartment. I used the bathroom multiple times every night of our stay and never woke anyone.

Also, both times that I stayed, Elisabeth was eager to resolve any problems we might have. On our first stay, the hot water heater broke and she came swiftly to fix it, toting a bottle of wine for us to enjoy. Our second stay was problem-free, but she phoned me a couple of days after our arrival to see how we were doing and to remind me to contact her if I should need anything. I found her to be extremely hospitable and eager to make us comfortable.

I would not hesitate to stay again or recommend this apartment to anyone. We had a lovely, comfortable, relaxing vacation while staying here.

Roomy but old apartment with renovated kitchen and bath in the middle of the quiet neighborhood

  • 4 of 5

The apartment is conveniently located in the middle of a nice and quiet Parisian neighborhood. It is 7-10 minutes walking distance from the nearest metro stations and in close proximity to grocery shops. The apartment is clean and has a renovated kitchen and bath. It has a high speed Wi-Fi connection and a flat screen TV with a number of cable channels. The apartment is located on the 4th floor of the building, but there is no elevator. So, if you have trouble walking up 70 stairs it will not be a good choice for you. The apartment has parquet floors that are old and squeaky, so good luck going to the bathroom at night and not waking anyone up. The beds are very comfortable. If you like to take shower at night you might end up taking a cold shower as the water pressure declines late into the night and is not enough to trigger the gas heater. The apartment has new windows but you can only open those overlooking the courtyard. The two windows facing the street are locked and cannot be opened. Therefore you can’t have a nice evening breeze going through the apartment. Even though the apartment has a portable AC it is not big enough to cool the entire area during a hot summer day. Overall, I would give this apartment 4 stars.

Owner's Response: When my guests submit a review, I always reply in a private message. However, this time I will respond directly in order to advise future guests that I was not informed regarding the minor issues mentioned above. These could have easily been solved during the guest’s stay had he contacted me when they arose. Needless to say that they have been fixed and everything is in perfect order. As to my “old” apartment, what seems old to some, others experience as beautiful, authentic and typically Parisian.

Lovely apartment in a great neighborhood

  • 5 of 5

The apartment was as described. It was charming, well-equipped and in immaculate condition. It's located in a great non-touristy neighborhood with lots of good restaurants and stores, and it is very close to a metro station and the Orly bus.

The owners, who live one floor up, were very helpful and responsive.

We would definitely recommend the apartment.

Light, convenient, elegant

  • 4 of 5

Four of us stayed for a week in Elizabeth's lovey apartment in Montparnasse. The apartment was well set up, light, elegant, spacious and clean. I particularly appreciated the good quality beds, well appointed bathroom and antique furnishings. I also appreciated the relatively fast wifi.

Elizabeth was helpful and always available if we needed anything. She also had very good English which was a plus for us. Although the apartment did not have laundry facilities, next door to the block was a laundry mat, which was very useful for us. Just 5 minutes walk from the apartment is the Rue Daguerre a lovely street full of restaurants and specialty shops selling wonderful produce: bakers, butchers, chocolate, cheese shops, fruit and vege, patisseries, wine, foi gras etc. There was also a Monoprix which is good for the basics. In addition, the Defert Rochereau metro station was also only 10 minutes walk away. Although the restaurants on the Rue Daguerre were often still open at midnight, the apartment was very quiet at night. The apartment was also very close to the Paris catacombs which are rather fascinating and creepy and a large historic cemetery with many famous personages interred in it. We couldn't have asked for a better base for our stay in Paris! However, people with mobility issues may not cope with the apartment as it is on the 4th floor and there are no lifts.

Perfect location, apartment, and owner!

  • 5 of 5

This was our first trip to Europe. We needed accommodations for four which included me, my wife, and my two daughters ages 17 and 20. After researching hotels it appeared we would need two rooms so my wife had the brilliant idea to check VRBO. This apartment is wonderful. It is over 100 years old and has original doors and other trim. It very clean and well maintained. It has a modern bathroom and kitchen so you get the experience of staying in a precious antique building with all the conveniences of modern life. It is steps away from an open air market, cafe's, the Metro, a bakery, and shopping. It is near the Catacombs. Towards the end of our week-long stay and having wandered all over Paris, we would step up from the metro stop into the neighborhood and feel as though we were home, and in a safe place. Elisabeth, the owner, is wonderful. She is very attentive and ensured our every need was met. The building is part of her ancestry and she takes great pride in it.

Comfortable, elegant apartment

  • 5 of 5

I've stayed in this apartment several times in recent years, sometimes sharing with friends, sometimes with family. It is beautifully appointed and located in a pleasant neighborhood. There is a wonderful market street nearby, as well as excellent transportation options. The owner, who lives in the same building, is gracious and extremely responsive.

The apartment is situated near the metro and RER station Denfert Rochereau. It is a direct line from Gare du Nord if you are travelling by Eurostar or by Thalys.

If you are travelling by plane, there is a direct RER rail link from Paris-Charles de Gaulle airport and a direct bus from Orly airport.

The railway station Montparnasse is also nearby if you are coming from the west or from the south-west of France or if you wish to go further afield to Chartres.

Paris itself, not including the suburbs, is relatively small and from the apartment - as I have already mentioned - you can reach most major tourist attractions in less than half an hour.
