Ledgemere, the Cottage by the Sea,!
About Heidi O'Donnell
Our family has been making the pilgrimage to Five Islands for over one hundred and fifty years. We consider it a gift from God. We are happy to have the opportunity to share it with others. Once you visit Five Islands, you too may be making the annual pilgrimage.
Heidi O'Donnell purchased this Cottage in 1870
Why Heidi O'Donnell chose Five Islands
The cottage is on Ledgemere Road which is the last road that you pass before you come to the end of 127 and run onto the wharf. It is perfectly situated to access everything in Five Islands. It is easy to get to and there is plenty of parking. The water is good and plentiful. Water access to launch a boat or kayak is every where one looks. It is warm and cozy with everything that a family would need in any type of Maine weather or season.
What makes this Cottage unique
The unique benefit of Ledgemere is that it brings all who visit, peace.

This is a great charming cottage in a wonderful location. Has everything you need to make your stay comfortable.
Unusual, fun with surprise gems within walking distance.
As seen in photos, this property is loaded with interesting tidbits at every glance. My grandchildren loved the scavenger hunt I created for them, just on the first level and within plain sight. The small beach close by was a hit with the family. There is also another trail a short distance that leads to cliffs suitable for adults. A lobster feed on the balcony was enjoyed by all. Everything we needed was found in the well-stocked kitchen. So much to do inside on rainy days (although we didn't have any). Art supplies galore, and subject matter is not lacking. Games, puzzles, books, movies galore.
I can't recommend for families with very young children due to the open railing balcony on the second level. Otherwise, I can recommend for families with older children. It was also a challenge for me (heart condition) to climb the steep stairs and lawn from the parking area. Would stay here again if my health would allow.
Perfect place to stay
My husband, four sons, and I stayed here. The size of the place and the location was perfect. We found the eclectic decor of the house quite interesting and fun to look at, but I was glad my sons are now older so there was never a problem with them touching or breaking anything. The bugs outside in the evening were awful so we were super grateful to have a screen in porch. Not having WiFi was not at all an inconvenience, we welcomed unplugging and enjoying each other’s company. I would say that the only inconvenience, to be honest, was the water. They have well water and a septic system so flushing the toilet and showering had to be limited. We made it work but with six people that sometimes was a bit hard to pull off. Like I mentioned the location was splendid. The harbor was around the corner so we walked there a couple of nights for dinner. The dreamy views and delicious food made that corner of the world our new favorite.
We were a group of friends who were kayaking in the area. The house was perfect! Heidi promptly answered all our questions. We had a great time. Thank you Heidi!
Stepping back in time with all the modern day conveniences. Loved having breakfast in the early morning sun on the deck with glimpses of the cove and boats passing by. So quiet and peaceful. And so very many interesting things to explore. Really hope to make it back again. Thank you for sharing your little piece of heaven.
Beautiful area, cozy home
Love this cottage with all its charm. Huge deck and enjoyed the enclosed porch in the evening. So many interesting items & art to enjoy. Short walk to the water. Enjoyed the cottage and area very much.
The cottage is located such that beaching, hiking, and boating is ideal. Deciding where to beach, hike, or go boating are the BIG decisions of the day. Five Islands is located at the mouth of the Sheepscot River and the Atlantic Ocean, so you literally can launch your boat from anywhere and take off for the day. There are so many exciting things to do, so you can drop your anchor or tie up and picnic on an island, go bird watching, go clam digging, watch local artists, eat lobster, or take in a garden tour.
