This may be the only VRBO in Highland Park. location cannot be beat!
We love this place! What a great place hidden away, yet right there close to the town. It is hard to justify staying in a hotel when this VRBO feels like a home away from home. WE would definitely stay here again.
My wife and I have stayed in this cottage for five summers straight, usually for 6-10 weeks. The cottage is charming, has everything you need, air conditioning, washer/dryer. huge flat screen Sony with cable a plenty. We have grown a friendship with the owners, who could not be nicer people or more accommodating. We consider them friends. The area where the cottage is could not be better. It is behind the owner's home and off the street. We know all the neighbors and they are all friendly. It is two blocks to a beach friendly park and two blocks to downtown and numerous restaurants. I often borrowed a bike to run errands. One of the best grocery stores is an easy walk and the commuter train station is four blocks away. That makes downtown Chicago an easy commute by train and then there is a ferry that takes you to Michigan Avenue for $3.00. Ravinia, the summer home of the Chicago Symphony and numerous popular acts is one block to a free bus that takes you there in five minutes. Walk the neighborhood and see some of the most glorious estates in the Midwest. Afternoons in late summer and fall you will hear the high school band practicing. It is a very home-town feel. One mile north is Highwood with numerous old Italian restaurants. Two great hospitals are nearby. Everything you need and the best summer city in America just a quick train ride away.
The trees are big and the weather, since it is near Lake Michigan is always moderate. The area is very safe night or day. The cottage is cozy by today's standards but has many architectural features of a by-gone era. It is handy for people who have a student at Northwestern or Lake Forrest or a sailor at Great Lakes Naval Base. Foods of every ethnic variety, a movie theater and great bike riding are right out the door.
Group of friends stayed here for a few nights, we liked the ease of walking into Highland Park and the railway station but although there are some nice pieces of furniture in the cottage it is in need of some serious redecoration and decent bed linen and towels as it is shabby in places. A hole in a door does not pass as a door opener and holes in the wall and paint peeling off just doesn't fit a rental property. It needs a lot of TLC and the photographs of the cottage were not what we found. Disappointed.
This place is so very cottage cute. We stayed here for our sons naval boot camp graduation. It is a cozy but roomy cottage tucked back a bit from any hustle and bustle. It is tastefully decorated and very clean. The town is quaint but very upscale . I can say this little gem made our stay and time with our son so delightful. Thank you.
Thank you to the wonderful cottage owners. Photos are amazingly representative of the property. It reminded us of cozy Pottery Barn, with real antiques, not replications. We were able to entertain family and friends for dinner parties, and enjoy the backyard BBQ as well. It is a great location with beautiful walking destinations, including the beach and village. My favorite was unbelievable regular sightings of a Doe with her three Fawn deer, on neighborhood walks with my doggy. Lunching, dining, shopping, and evening walking for gelatto are fond memories.
All-around perfection! The owners were easy to work with, accommodating, friendly and professional. The property was VERY CLEAN and as described/pictured. The owners did a great job rehabbing this place. The location can't be beat. It is in the midst of a great neighborhood. You can walk easily to many shops, restaurants and the Metra. The pictures in the listing are spot on. The first thing I thought when we walked in was "I could live here."
I personally LOVED the French cottage décor. My husband thought it was nice, but somewhat “girly.” That said, he was very pleased with the large flat screen TV, comfortable furnishings & pet-friendliness of the property. This is a perfect place for a girls’ weekend or a couple/family, but probably not my first recommendation for a guys’ weekend.
All 3 bedrooms were nicely decorated and spacious. The home is well stocked (e.g., dishes, sheets, blankets, towels, pillows, toiletries, hair dryer, iron/ironing board etc) and there is plenty of space for a couple/family/group of friends to hang out in the kitchen/dining area and living room. The only thing that could be considered a downside, and this really depends on who you are traveling with, is the bathroom. While it is nicely decorated, it is very small & located between the master bedroom (downstairs) & a HUGE walk in closet. There isn’t much room for storing toiletries. The bathroom wasn't an issue for us, but if you were traveling with people outside of your immediate family it might be, depending on how comfortable you are sharing a bathroom.
Two additional perks—(1) Wi-Fi access & (2) the little fenced yard in the back of the house. The latter was wonderful for our dogs. It was still a little icy in spots when we were there, but I imagine the back yard would be great place for people to hang out during the late spring, summer & fall.
Overall, an A+ all-around! We would stay here again in a heartbeat if we were coming to the area & it was available. We would also recommend the property to others—we just don't want it to become so popular we don’t have the opportunity to come back. :)
Four adults comfortably stayed here & went to Ravinia; which was very convenient. The cottage was very clean and comfortable; tastefully decorated. Spacious for 4 people; kitchen & dining room both great for dining in. Went to the Botanical gardens the next day; gorgeous. Owner was very accomodating & the photos
world famous RAVINIA concert park free shuttle to entrance. Botanical Gardens, quaint downtown HP shopping, dining, golf, water slide park, lake Michigan parks, free summer entertainment!
