Description

Photos and Description of this 5 bedroom holiday cabin in Custer - Elk Valley

Cabin, 5 Bedrooms + Loft + Den, 3 Baths, (Sleeps 9-15)

My property is called Elk Valley because it is located on a secluded ridge 100 yards from the Black Hills National Forest. I have a small valley or meadow where Elk, Deer and Wild Turkey live. The Elk come in from the National Forest and water at my pond about 75 yards behind my large 3500 sq ft 'cabin.' A private service road connects the house and land to Elk Valley Road, which is right off of SD Hwy 89 or 'Sylvan Lake Road' a historic Hwy that continues up to Sylvan Lake Lodge, Crazy Horse Monument and Mount Rushmore.

Mount Rushmore is 20 minutes from Elk Valley, Crazy Horse monument is only 5 minutes away. Elk Valley is a magnificent place, secluded yet minutes away from Custer and easy to locate. Mornings are especially beautiful at this unique place which has a spiritual quality.

Keywords: secluded large cabin on 13 acres next to national forest w/horse corral, has small pond, beautiful meadow

About The Owner

I am 58 years old, semi-retired, two adult children. I graduated from O'Gorman HS in 1973, Univ. of Notre Dame in 1977, and USD School of Law in 1983; I love spending time in Custer, South Dakota at Elk Valley, it has a spiritual aspect to it that can only be experienced by going there.

The Owner purchased this cabin in 2006

Why The Owner chose Black Hills

It was built to be my retirement home where I can keep my horses. Custer County is the most beautiful county in the Black Hills--and that means maybe in South Dakota. It is a tourist town of 2,000 people that services the entire USA and still remaims small and where you want to move to and either retire or raise a family. Custer has 12 churches.

What makes this cabin unique

It is near everything in the Black Hills; It is comfy, restful, and the land is as beautiful as it gets; I have an exercise room, a steam shower, foosball, pingpong, outdoor activities, just about anything you want to do-like camping or making a bonfire in the back yard.

Perfect for a large group of people

  • 5 of 5

All of our bridal party stayed at his beautiful cabin in preparation for our wedding at Sylvan Lake. There were 13 adults and 5 children and we still had plenty of space to spread out. We had 9 girls getting ready at one time in the living room/kitchen and it was not overcrowded. The location is phenomenal, the house is immaculate, comfortable and well laid out. Tim was wonderful and easy to work with, upfront and extremely accommodating. Thank you for letting us stay at your beautiful "cabin" for our very special day!

Nine adults, three dogs and two horses enjoyed a weeks stay at Tim's Elk Valley "cabin". The five bedroom three bath house provided plenty room for everyone to spread out and have their own space. Tim was very easy to work with and accommodated all are needs with the use of his horse corral, dog kennel, and two car garage. The location is ideal, providing privacy on the 13 acre property, but only minutes from the city of Custer and many Black Hills attractions. We would definitely rent this property again.

Great Owner.

  • 5 of 5

This is a really nice home in a beautiful setting. I stayed here with 10 friends and had a great time. The place is really quiet with plenty of room to spread out so it is easy to have community time and still get away to read a book. The best thing about this rental, however, is its the owner. I rent through VRBO several times a year and have dealt with many owners and managers, and Tim is by far the best! He is very honest. Even though I have never met him personally (only on the phone), I would say he is a man of integrity. He represents his property with honesty and well founded enthusiasm. He handles the financial aspects to the rental promptly and with clarity. I would give him and his home my highest recommendation.

Great for large group

  • 4 of 5

We stayed at this beautiful, spacious home this summer with 10 adults for the week of Sturgis. The house was more than accommodating for all of us and the two car garage was really nice to store the motorcycles in for the evenings. The property is absolutely beautiful, with the wildlife, trees and bonfire spot we used several times while there. The location was perfect for the areas we traveled to for sight seeing and close to the conveniences of town for supplies. The drive up to the house on the bikes was a bit challenging at first (gravel) but it all worked out fine. I would highly recommend this house for people seeking accommodations for large groups and a quiet and relaxing atmosphere.

Execellent

We had such a great time in Custer. This home was wonderful and on beautiful land. We saw deer on the property every day. If I were to return to the Black Hills I would stay here again without question. Great location to everything to do.

Another great year!!

  • 5 of 5

Our second year at Elk Valley. We are a group of 8, including 4 generations with ages from 87 to 12. The house accommodates all of us with everything being roomy enough to allow for a walker and a dog to move with ease:) The "kids" enjoyed the basement with the ping pong and foosball. With a family room, 2 bedrooms and a full bath the basement became their own space. In the morning it's breakfast or coffee on the deck enjoying the peace and quiet and watching for deer. For the evenings there's a bonfire with hot dogs, bratz and s'mores! The seclusion is wonderful, yet only 5 minutes from Custer and anything you need. Carson Drug is a great pharmacy for any needs you have. The area has great things to see and do. We recommend Badger Clark Cabin, Custer Museum and Whitiker Jewelry and Antiques just north of Hot Springs. Be sure to check out the bison and prairie dogs as you go through Wind Cave National Park! Sylvan Lake is just up the road and one of our favorite spots. We fish it every evening! Allow time to just walk and enjoy the 13 acres with Elk Valley. Thank you Tim for allowing us to enjoy your place....another great year!!
