Overview

About the property

2 Bedrooms + Loft, 1 Bath (Sleeps 6-8)

River Haven Cottage is nestled on the beautiful Shenandoah River with a spectacular year round view. The very name River Haven hints to its warm and cozy place on the river. Life at the cabin is very low key, just the place to relax and take it easy while having the full features of a home at your finger tips. Explore the river or the nearby national parks, all at your own pace. River Haven has something to offer for all who visit.

River Haven is the perfect place to relax. Enjoy a local hike or sit back on our large deck and enjoy the river. River Haven offers all the comforts of home with the advantages of being located by the Shenandoah River. Bring a pole and lures and enjoy our abundant small mouth bass or take the canoe and tour the river.

River Haven is situated on the northwestern portion of a 200 acre farm named Rivercrest that dates back to an original land grant from the King of England. The original deed granted hundreds of acres to the Moyer/Taylor family who were also distant relatives of our 12th President of the United States , Zachary Taylor. While the Taylors amassed most of their holdings through many local business dealings of the 1800’s, the fertile soil and incredible waterfront beauty of Rivercrest always interested the last heir Everet to farm and cultivate the rich soil and produce abundant crops. In the 1960’s, Mr. Taylor sold roughly an acre of riverfront property to a local businessman and soon after River Haven was born. The previous owners of River Haven upgraded and maintained the waterfront retreat and decided to share its peace, quiet, and solitude with the rest of those looking for a retreat away from the stresses of modern day life. And, to this day, these qualities make River Haven such a unique and incredible property and it invites you to feel like a part of the infamous Shenandoah River like no other can offer. As the owners of Rivercrest and now River Haven we are pleased that the two are once again joined together and we are anxious to add our touches to River Haven and for our guest to experience the stress and tension leaving as you make your way down past the historic farm that we and Mr. Taylor love and cherish and find your peace, solitude, and enjoyment in all that River Haven has to offer.

Why Eugene chose Shenandoah Valley

What makes this cabin unique

A true sense of relief touches you as you rest on the deck and look over the river. Your mind wonders as to who traveled the water ways long before automobiles and you are swept back to a much simpler time.

Guestbook comments from the owner

I had a great time; I was really impressed with the cabin. My daughters and my wife had a splendid time. Something I would consider is the timing to check out. I think it should be 12:00 o’clock due to Saturday night you do a lot and in the morning there is not enough time. I really thank you for the opportunity to share the cabin with us and trust me we are going to come back and fish again and maybe bring someone to help me row the canoe, because my wife wouldn’t get in because the girls were afraid of the canoe in the water. Thanks for everything.

Great place for a romantic getaway!

  • 3 of 5

I loved the location and view, and look forward to booking during summer. My only complaint would be that we couldn't get the tv to work after an exhausting day of hiking...But who needs to watch tv in a place like that?

Nice, cozy little cabin.

  • 3 of 5

I recently stayed with my husband and 6 year old daughter. We are avid hikers and loved the close proximity to numerous trail heads and waterfall hikes. The Shenandoah valley has breathtaking views along the parkway. The cabin itself was very accommodating. We enjoyed the hot tub and games and snuggling by the fire. My only complaint is that the dock is very old and rickety. One board is so warped it sticks up several inches above the others for a nice stumbling block. We did take the canoe out for a quick paddle after check-in, and the river is gorgeous even in the winter. When we came out of the water, I got out first to help my daughter up the ladder. When my husband grabbed hold of the rails to climb up, the cheap aluminum ladder snapped and came right off the old deck landing my husband back in the canoe still holding the ladder. Thank the Lord it wasn't my daughter. Hopefully, the deck and ladder will be replaced properly. We would have liked to take it for another spin on the river but there wasn't a safe way in and out without the ladder. That said, we did enjoy our stay and getting away from it all. Thank you for the quaint little cabin on the river.

Great cabin. Great location

  • 5 of 5

We had a great time at River Haven. Kids loved the cows and exploring the property and the homey feel of the place. It snowed so that was a plus which was beautiful and made it look like a winter wonderland.

Gorgeous Property

  • 4 of 5

My husband and I stayed at this property for a short getaway in January. Even in the winter months, it is a breathtaking property. The deck is very spacious and the dock is easily accessible and convenient. The inside of the cabin is beautifully decorated and comfortable. The information log provided inside the cabin informed us that the hot tub is drained and cleaned after each guest. This is excellent, except that for the first full 24 hours of our 2 day stay, the hot tub was useless to us since it took so long to heat up. I respect the hygienic value to this practice, but having rented in a winter month, this was a vital aspect to our decision to stay at this cabin. The hot tub heated up at the rate of about 1 degree per hour. We got there late our first night (9pm) so the hot tub wasn't fully heated until the morning of our last day! Such a bummer! The only other slight criticism that I have about this house is that the loft area is very small. This did not factor into our stay at all, but I think it is worth noting that an adult cannot stand up in the loft area. It is ideal for children. This house seemed very kid friendly, but was also ideal for our short romantic getaway. Another minor thing to note is that the keypad entryway places you right in the bathroom. I found this very odd, but it didn't really factor into my like or dislike of the house. It was unexpected, but kind of nice to run into the bathroom with heated lamps after a quick dip in the (not so hot) hot tub. The area that surrounds this house is beautiful. We took a few walks down the farm road and the view of the mountains is stunning. I would give this house 4.5 stars mainly because of the hot tub heating issue, but otherwise it is incredible. I would visit this house again.
