Rest, relax, and rejuvenate in this gorgeous home in a serene, stunningly beautiful setting. I call it 'Casa de Luz' as the beautiful light of the New Mexican sky pours into the house from most rooms.
By day, relax on the riverside deck, watching the river ripple by just below you under the famous New Mexico blue sky and watch the light constantly change on the surrounding cliffs. By night, there are a billion stars for gazing while listening to the ever-present soothing sounds of the river.
This architect-designed, custom-built luxury contemporary southwest home is perfect for personal or family/small group retreats or celebrations. Its unique ‘butterfly’ roof structure allows stunning sky, cliff, and mesa views from large windows in almost every room, which are placed to maximize views yet ensure privacy.
The house is located 1.5 miles south of the charming Village of Jemez Springs, with its variety of restaurants, western-style bar, chic coffee shop/bakery, and historic hot mineral spring bathhouse and other outdoor hot mineral bath pools. Nearby Canon Del Rio Day Spa has a swimming pool and full spa services; the village bathhouse offers massage in addition to private hot mineral springs baths. Access from the house to the main road is easy.
The Great Room combines the living room, kitchen, and dining room. Three doors open directly onto the riverside deck creating nearly seamless indoor-outdoor living.
The views from the deck and river are fully natural; there are no structures between you, the river, and the 1,700’ red rock cliff. Many people have commented that the setting is like having a national park all to yourself!
The living room area features an L-shaped leather sofa, 2 occasional chairs, and a media center. The room is dominated by the kiva fireplace centered on an almost all-glass 28’ high wall facing the river and 1,700’ red rock cliff.
The kitchen area is fully appointed and has stainless steel appliances. There is an island/bar with stools for casual meals as well as full-size, expandable dining table.
House comfortably sleeps 4 – 5 adults:
Master suite has a king bed. Large windows allow views of spectacular red-rock mesas on both sides of the canyon and stargazing at night.
Riverside guest room has a queen bed. Location allows you to fall asleep to the sounds of the river. This room has direct access to the riverside deck.
Riverside all-glass enclosed sunroom/sleeping porch has a double bed. Room has a full, unobstructed view of the river as well as maximum river sound. A privacy screen is provided for the north wall. (Note: not usable in deep winter.)
Master bath features a glass block shower with pebbled floor as well as an antique clawfoot tub. Large windows on three sides provide stunning sky and mesa views but privacy is maintained by their strategic placement.
Second bath has antique clawfoot tub with shower attachment.

This is a dream-home in a dream-setting. The Jemez Springs area is stunningly beautiful, the perfect retreat from the pressures of everyday life.
In addition to unsurpassed high-desert red-rock scenery, there are numerous hot mineral water pools and a historic bathhouse for soaking. The house was custom-designed to capture and maximize the sky, cliff/mesa, and river views. The river is about 15 feet wide, and runs all year. It's great for watching or wading in, maybe even some fishing, although there are far richer fishing spots in many other parts of the river upstream. The locals are friendly, welcoming to visitors, proud of their community. Just one hour from Albuquerque and 1.5 hours from Santa Fe, this gorgeous home in a stunning setting is truly 'so near, yet so far' from busy bustling everyday life.
Thank you for allowing us to inhabit this magnificent space. It is a feast for the senses and a great place for creating the next phase of life.
This was my second time staying here . It just so happened the second time New Mexico was hit with a big snow storm!
Luckily Jemez was mild compared to the eastern side of ABQ but it left the most magical dusting of white powder behind .
The home just glistened and the surrounding red rock a shown even more brilliant in contrast to the whiteness of the snow. The beautiful home offered a warm safe haven from the snow all the while affording gorgeous views from all of the many windows this home possesses .
So even though the weather inclement the home was a wonderful place to hunker down and take in the magical ambiance in comfort !
Fantastic home will all the luxury of a 5-star hotel. The views can not be beat and the location is right in the middle of all the local attractions, hiking, springs and more! We will definitely return and make this our weekend get away!
We were going to pass through Jemez Springs on the way to Chaco Canyon, but once we got to the Casa del Luz, we decided to stay there for two days. What a glorious house and spectacular setting! The ceilings throughout the house are probably 30 feet high, with windows on all levels for magnificient views of the red cliffs to the west and the green hills to the east. The house is very clean, comfortable, and well-equipped, and the neighbor/caretakers, Susan and Doc, were most helpful and unobtrusive. We loved the sculptures, hangings, and other art work in the house, and made good use of the wood-burning kiva fireplace on chilly nights. The beds were very comfortable, and the glassed-in sleeping porch--from which you could see the sky, the river, and the yellow cottonwoods--was a special treat for our daughter. The master bedroom and bath are amazing, with their soaring ceilings and windows to the views and sky, and a huge glass block shower. The isolated location meant extraordinary star-gazing at night; we enjoying lying on the chaise lounges next to the burbling river each evening, soaking in the the milky way and spotting shooting stars! This house was a wonderful discovery, and fully justifies a short detour "off the beaten path." And don't miss the Jemez Springs bakery!
We stayed for three nights in this lovely restful home. The well thought out architecture means the views of sky, cliffs, trees and water are everywhere you look. It is like being outside but with all the comforts of home. We especially loved the master shower....looking through the high windows, and having the sunlight playing across you as you shower is really like being outdoors, What a great pleasure that was. Beautiful home, great kitchen for cooking in. Bed and linens were wonderful! Susan the manager very attentive and accommodating. No reservations at all in recommending...we are already making plans for next summer!
Tranquil. Extraordinary. Exceptional. All words that don't adequately describe this spectacular, "view filled" home. It almost feels as if a cherished secret is being divulged by writing this review. The pictures of this amazing house attempt to capture the essence, but what you cannot see in them, yet will not mistake once you've stayed here, is how much love the owner has placed in her home that she is generous and trusting enough to share with others. This home is a refuge surrounded by an extremely fragile ecosystem. This home is most clearly a beloved place for the owner and is evident even before you set foot through the door. As you pull through the small circular xeroscaped tree lined drive your heart will skip a beat to realize that you will be staying at such a stunning home and that you've arrived!
Whether you look up to a deep blue clear sky - one that you feel you can reach up and touch, or a brilliantly starry night, or even a ferocious thunder storm rolling over the mountains; the views (even while in bed or taking a shower) will be stunning memories you will feel most fortunate to have experienced.
This is an amazing gem of a home with an incredible setting by the river. We thoroughly enjoyed our time in your home, Anne. Our teens13 & 14 loved playing in the river. We brought our telescope for incredible stargazing. We loved going into town for dinner & lunch and taking in the culture of Jemez Springs. We also made day trips to Chaco Canyon & Bandelier National Monument, Albuquerque and Santa Fe. Anne and her neighbors/ managers went above & beyond to make our stay comfortable and welcoming. Thank you!
The local area has many beautiful hikes in the National Forest and at the Valles Caldera Reserve. In addition, Jemez is a volcanic area so we have a historic hot mineral springs bathhouse, run by the village, as well as two other outdoor natural hot springs, which are much less accessible.

The house is located right on the river, and there is a lot of glass, so is not appropriate for children under 8.
Parents must be certain that children (and pets) are never left unsupervised at any time outside.
