Overview

About the property

5 bedrooms, 3 full baths, sleeps 18, lake views, 3 levels with game room!

This spacious home on 7 acres with sweeping views of Lake Huron is a quiet getaway situated between the villages of Port Sanilac and Harbor Beach. It is the perfect destination for a group or multi-family getaway or reunion on Lake Huron! 5 bedrooms, 3 full baths, sleeps up to 18, with game room, and beautiful lake views!

Our 3-story home is located in Forestville, Michigan -- 18 miles north of Port Sanilac and 12 miles south of Harbor Beach. The home is situated at the end of a long private driveway atop a bluff with sweeping views of Lake Huron. The park-like setting includes a sand beach, several lawns and picnic areas, a game room with billiards and card tables, basketball hoop, campfire pits, grills for BBQs, and enough lawn games (and property!) to keep you busy.

The kitchen is spacious and built to accommodate a crowd, with double ovens, an extra sink, plates and cutlery for many, and appliances and cooking utensils. There are 5 bedrooms total (4 upstairs and 1 on the main level), and a full bath on each level of the home. There are 2 queen beds, 6 full size beds, two bunk beds, a pack n' play, and a pullout sofa. Clean bed linens are provided. Ceiling fans throughout the home keep the home airy and cool on warm days. Wireless internet and ROKU TV (access to your Netflix, Amazon, Hulu, etc, not cable) are available for those who want to stay "plugged in".

The beach front provides access to a shallow bay for water play and kayaking. The bay is not deep enough for motorized boats. We recommend bringing your water shoes to navigate the typical Lake Huron rocky or sometimes mucky bottom. For deeper swimming or boating purposes, the nearby Forestville beach (1 mile away), Harbor Beach (12 miles north), and Port Sanilac marina are great destinations.

When you are fully relaxed and ready to explore, outings to Port Sanilac, Harbor Beach and Lexington are always fun to take advantage of the sandy beaches, playgrounds, museums, quaint shopping, ice cream and restaurants. Harbor Beach boasts a beautiful harbor, pier and marina where you can rent boats.

This area is great for golf (there is a driving range across the street from the home), hunting, fishing, hiking, sailing, water sports, and in the winter, snowmobiling on the extensive trail system.

The house rents from Monday (check in at 12 noon) to Sunday (check out at 12 noon) from June through early September. In the Spring, Fall, and Winter, we accommodate weekend and week long rentals. Please inquire with the owners for more information. See the "Rates" tab for weekly and weekend rental prices throughout the seasons. The week of July 4th the house rents for $2800. There is a $200 cleaning fee for all rentals. Pets will be considered ($50 pet fee). There is an additional $25 fee/person/night for groups over 14 people. Please inquire for consideration and prices for groups larger than 18 and special events. Weddings and special events will be considered between September and June (not July and August).

We hope every member of your family or group will feel at home here! Send us a message with any questions and we'll promptly respond. We look forward to hosting you and ensuring your stay on 'the thumb' of Michigan is a relaxing and memorable one!

Why Betsy & Jim chose Eastern Michigan

We built this home as a family retreat 'getaway” for our large family (9 sibs!) from the Detroit metro area.

Guestbook comments from the owner

I don’t have too much feedback because we thought everything was just perfect. I couldn’t believe that such a big group of such diverse adults could all be happy in one house….but we were. We loved it, I asked the group and no one could come up with anything that would have made our stay better, it was lovely.

Thank you and I hope to come again.

Perfect place to stay

  • 5 of 5

My family of 8 adults and 3 children and a dog had a wonderful time. The house was big enough for all of us without getting in each other's way. The property was beautiful with lots of space for playing kickball and soccer. My grandkids loved the beach and campfires. Hope to go back again next year.

Nice Lakeside Location But House Needs Some TLC

  • 1 of 5

Our family (8 adults, 2 teenagers, 2 small children) from NJ, OH, IL, and LA spent six days at this lakeside property, just south of Harbor Beach, Michigan, in late July 2017. The house was big enough, and the kitchen was well-equipped (we had several good family meals), but the house needs some TLC. Nearly every window had missing or broken hardware and the windows had not been washed in some time (cobwebs abound). Except for one piece that remained, the dock had washed away before our arrival. (During our stay, a crew came and collected the pieces of the dock and put them in one pile near the beach, but nothing was done to reassemble the dock while we were there.) The house itself needs child-proofing. There are NOT functioning gates on every stairway, which means that the little ones have to be watched every second. The kitchen cabinets are not child-proofed. The garage is dank and cluttered - no one wanted to go in there. For what we paid, and based upon the representations in the listing, we expected more.

Please note that Harbor Beach is very depressed and, in my opinion, is not worth visiting - unless you are a history buff and may be interested in 1920's-1930's-1940's political figure Frank Murphy. (We spent a pleasant two hours visiting his home and museum.) But when we walked around the town on a Wednesday, it seemed as if two-thirds of the businesses are closed; many were boarded up. There is a distinct chemical smell emanating from the lakefront industrial facilities - Sensient and Dow Chemical. We enjoyed an evening at the Barn Theatre (25 minutes south), and the nearby golf courses are worth playing. Lexington is a small town worth visiting.

I hope this review is helpful to anyone who is thinking about visiting this part of the state.

Sibling Get together

  • 5 of 5

A tradition of 8 siblings getting together for a week continued through this property. Size of the property was perfect with space, quiet, and all amenities available. Our only issue during the week was accessing additional propane tank for grilling and that was provided within 30 minutes of contacting the owner. Will look forward to future visits. Recommend highly to others.

Phenomenal Experience!!!

  • 5 of 5

I choose this home on Lake Huron as a vacation home rental and a location to have my small wedding on the Lake. From the moment I first spoke with Betsy & Jim and introduced the idea of a wedding they blew me away with their kindness and overall calm, happy demeanor. Before, during and after staying at the home Betsy & Jim stayed in contact with me. On behalf of my whole family we wanted to thank them for making our stay at their home absolutely amazing--EVERYONE talks about coming back again. Betsy and Jim went above and beyond to always make sure to accommodate myself and my guests. A shower head broke in the bathroom- they had a new one UPS arrive the next day. It rained all week and made it so muddy to get down the hill we worried our wedding guests would be upset- they had their maintenance guy come out and lay gravel on the drive for us and he raked the sand at the lake for us. Going on vacation and having just a fun, relaxing, carefree time is always a goal but going away for your wedding and feeling this way I believe is slightly unheard of. The home was and the lot was a perfect fit for our multiple families staying there and the lot for my wedding guests/party! The home has everything you need and feels like your own, comfy, cozy home. There is a lot to do in and outside the home- games, bonfire, kayak's, beach and more. Harbor Beach was only 12 minutes away and we did a golf coarse one day also only 15 mins away. I HIGHLY recommend staying at this home as it is a true vacation escape to relax and enjoy Lake Huron. The lake and property provided phenomenal pictures and memories that my whole family will cherish forever. Thank you again SO SO much Betsy and Jim! You are truly great people! Hope we meet again soon!

Beautiful property with a great house for large groups

  • 5 of 5

We had a group of 15 and were all very comfortable. Bathrooms on every floor with the top floor bathroom having three sinks and separate toilet and shower rooms made it perfect for everyone getting ready at once. The property was beautiful with a great view of the water and plenty of room. It was a nice quiet location perfect for relaxing. We also enjoyed the restaurant that was within walking distance. Great stay and the owners are very easy to work with.
