Photos and Description of this 1 bedroom holiday cottage in Opal Cliffs - VRBO 295164

Furnished. fully equipped 1 bedroom cottage, 2 blocks from prime surfing, dog OK

Located on Pleasure Point, this small attached one bedroom beach cottage, is located close to many of the famed destinations the Northern California coast has to offer along Highway 1 of Monterey Bay: Quaint beach towns including Santa Cruz, Capitola, Soquel, Moss Landing, Monterey and Carmel; a host of Mountain Wineries; and, a wealth of outdoor activities.

It’s a very short walking distance from the front door of Pleasure Point Cottage to one of the finest surfing spots on the West coast! The scenery is breath taking. The relaxed cottage style interior is ideal for a snow bird’s retreat or surfing enthusiasts alike, a wine tasters’ refuge or a couple’s getaway.

Pleasure Point Cottage has its own kitchen with all of the dishes, pots and pans you will need, as well as a coffee pot, microwave, full range, and a side by side refrigerator and a kitchen table with seating for three.

The living room has a white leather sectional sofa, plus desk with internet and cable TV.

The bathroom has a walk-in shower and fresh, clean towels and a hair dryer.

The bedroom has a queen size bed with a new Simons Beauty Rest mattress. The bed is ready with clean linens. Extra bedding is available to create a second sleeping area in the living room if needed.

All of the utilities, cable TV, Wi-Fi, laundry, gardener, barbeque and picnic table are provided. We even have storage space for your bike and/or surf board. This attached cottage has off-street parking on a stamped concrete driveway, and its own private, fenced yard. Yes, your dog is welcome too. He/she will appreciate the fenced yard, walks throughout the dog friendly neighborhood, and the trails around the local estuary and Light House Field.

The storage room, laundry room, waste management and parking areas are shared with two other cottages.

Begin your day by strolling along Opal Cliffs. Watch surfers challenge the waves; listen to the pounding surf while the sea gulls call from overhead; inhale the fresh ocean air while you sip a cup of hot coffee at the corner deli and consider your options. Northern California coastal communities are vibrant with activities and opportunities to explore. All are easily discoverable near this Pleasure Point getaway.

About Lorraine Heng

After teaching for thirty-four years and maintaining cars, airplanes and properties for even longer, being parents and grandparents, we have become 'snowbirds'. Creating 'home' along the west coast has been a life long passion. This Pleasure Point Cottage is one of our favorites. It's a place we enjoy coming to for sheer relaxation, and we take delight in creating an affordable vacation option for others.

Lorraine Heng purchased this cottage in 1979

Why Lorraine Heng chose Santa Cruz

We love the ambience, especially the fresh ocean air, the mild climate and natural beauty of Monterey Bay with its powerful surge of ocean waves on the beach. There is a wealth of outdoor activities here, and access to either San Francisco peninsula or Carmel-by-the-Sea is easy from the Santa Cruz area.

What makes this cottage unique

Where else in the world can you, walk out your front door and down the street a couple of blocks to go surfing, comfortably stroll so many beaches, walk the dog through the Light House Field or along the marshes, go deep sea fishing or sailing, go hiking or ride horseback through the nearby redwood forests; or go kayaking in the Elk Horn Slough? A continuing favorite is to watch the otters, birds and sea lions play in the estuary at sun set, while enjoying a fine fish dinner at Moss Landing.

Guestbook comments from the owner

The place is awesome! We love the closeness to the beach, and the quiet neighborhood. Our dog loved sitting outside on the grass, and the baby loved walks to the beach. We'll definitely return!

Great little Cottage

  • 4 of 5

We enjoyed our stay at Pleasure Point. Everything was as described. The kitchen is well stocked and there was plenty of room. We brought our grandsons who enjoyed playing in the yard. We were especially pleased that the cottage is pet friendly. Restaurants and attractions were close. An easy place to get to. Thanks Loraine for such great service.

No information binder

  • 2 of 5

We have used VRBO for years and have always been happy with the rental. However, we found it stressful not to have any information regarding how to set up the TV, etc. and it would have been so helpful if instructions had been provided. We were asked to place our used towels and sheets in the laundry room, but could not find it in the cottage. Finally someone told us that it was located outside, on the back walkway. It would have been good to know that. All our previous rentals had information binders and even offered tips on good restaurants. Additionally, it would have been nice to have a small table in the LR for drinks and snacks. It was tiresome of have to hold cold drinks in our hands with nowhere to put them as the only furniture was a desk and couch. On the plus side, we appreciated the little fenced in garden for our dog and the location of the cottage is great.

Owner's Response: Instructions for the cottage, including the laundry room, are emailed two weeks prior to arrival. Additional suggestions, including driving directions, local restaurants, movie theaters, hospitals etc are available on line through the Hospitality Manager app. Guests are encouraged to call the owner directly if there are questions.

A solid three star VRBO

  • 3 of 5

Generally as described: clean, well stocked kitchen and bathroom; one bedroom; living room wth TV, Cable, Internet, and a sectional sofa; and a small, neat sitting area in front of the cottage..Suitable for a couple. The sections of the sectional sofa in the living room are on coasters. A small child or adult contortionist could sleep on it comfortably. Beyond that there are pads for sleeping in the floor. Accessing the cottage was straight forward and the host responded very promptly to emails.

Perfect little cottage

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at this great little cottage for my nieces wedding and it was just perfect. Two blocks from the beach for a nice walk and no crowds and all we needed with the nice little kitchen and front patio, one bedroom and a nice little living room. Great location and we look forward to a return visit:)

Cute

  • 5 of 5

The cottage was perfect for our needs. We only wish that we could have stayed longer to explore the area. The beach is close and perfect for morning walks with our old dog. The younger dog loved the beach also. We were visiting family in the surrounding area and were not able to take full advantage of the location other than my morning run and then walks with the dogs. We would return!

Pleasure Point on Opal Cliff
Car: recommended

The cottage is less than two blocks from one of the finest surfing spots on the west coast. It's half way between Carmel By the Sea and San Francisco, on Monterey Bay, close to Old Capitola.

Santa Cruz County has 29 miles of beaches to explore: Cowell's Beach, Steamer Lane, (a favorite surfing spot), Twin Beach, and Castle Beach, are all near the Santa Cruz Wharf.

Driving south from Pleasure Point Cottage, you will find Manresa Beach, La Selva, Capitola Beach, Seacliff Beach (sunken cement ship), Seascape Beach, and Sunset Beach (romance ).

Driving North look for the Santa Cruz Harbor (great place for breakfast, lunch or dinner and evening entertainment); discover Light House Field State Beach ( good surfing and great place to walk dogs), Natural Bridges (observe Monarch butterflies), Wilder Ranch Beach (historic site), Davenport Beach (tiny town with a good bakery),and Four-mile Beach (known for beach parties), Scotts Creek Beach, (a favorite for beach combing ) Wadell Creek Beach, a (a good spot for wind-surfing) Bonny Dune Beach and Red-White-Blue (clothing is optional). Come and discover how many beaches you can find to leave your foot prints in the sand!

If you want more adventure: Hike, ride a zip line or train through the beautiful redwood forests of the Santa Cruz mountains. Visit the UCSC Campus, the Monterey Bay Aquarium or play a round of golf. Drive up the coast to San Francisco, and walk across the Golden Gate Bridge. You'll never forget it!
