About the property

Furnished. fully equipped 1 bedroom cottage, 2 blocks from prime surfing, dog OK

Our delightful one bedroom, attached cottage is about two blocks from one of the most popular surfing spots on the west coast! The climate is mild, the scenery is spectacular, and there is always something happening. A surfing school is close by for beginners. Observation of the wave action and the view of Monterey Bay, combined with the sound of crashing waves and the fresh air is invigorating!

Pleasure Point Cottage has its own kitchen with all of the dishes, pots and pans you will need, as well as a coffee pot, microwave, full range, and a side by side refrigerator.

The living room has a white leather sectional sofa, plus desk with internet and cable TV.

The bathroom has a walk-in shower, fresh, clean towels and a hair dryer.

The bedroom has a queen size bed with a new Simons Beauty Rest mattress. The bed is ready with clean linens. Extra bedding is available to create a second sleeping area in the living room if needed.

The cottage even has a small private fenced yard, perfect for well behaved dogs, and a patio with a bistro set and barbeque.

All utilities, gardener, TV and Wi-Fi and off street parking are provided.

We have off-street parking and a storage area for surf boards and/or bikes that is shared with another cottage.

Santa Cruz County has 29 miles of beaches to explore: Cowell's Beach, Steamer Lane, (a favorite surfing spot), Twin Beach, and Castle Beach, are all near the Santa Cruz Wharf. Driving south from Pleasure Point Cottage, you will find Manresa Beach, La Selva, Capitola Beach, Seacliff Beach (sunken cement ship), Seascape Beach, and Sunset Beach (romance). Driving North look for the Santa Cruz Harbor (great place for breakfast, lunch or dinner and evening entertainment); discover Light House Field State Beach ( good surfing and great place to walk dogs), Natural Bridges (observe Monarch butterflies), Wilder Ranch Beach (historic site), Davenport Beach (tiny town with a good bakery),and Four-mile Beach (known for beach parties), Scotts Creek Beach, (a favorite for beach combing ) Wadell Creek Beach, a (a good spot for wind-surfing) Bonny Dune Beach and Red-White-Blue (clothing is optional).

Natural Bridges State Beach, in Santa Cruz is known for its tide-pooling and famous natural rock bridge. It feels secluded but is easily accessible from the road. From October through February, this state park is a Monarch Butterfly sanctuary for as many as 100,000 butterflies that are drawn to the mild ocean air and eucalyptus grove.

The Seymour Marine Discovery Center, a part of the Joseph M. Long Marine Laboratory, a research and education facility of UCSC is about 3.5 miles from the cottage. Or drive south (about 45 minutes) to the Monterey Bay Aquarium. It’s well worth your time.

Visit up to forty-five different Santa Cruz wineries. Winemaker Wednesdays at Shadow Brook Restaurant features 2 to 4 wines from local wineries in a spectacular river front setting. Barrel Tasting & Wine Dinner is held at Bonny Doon Vineyard every Thursday where you can glimpse into the winery & cellar. Barrel tasting is followed by a hosted three-course family-style dinner paired with wines of Bonny Doon Vineyard

.

Santa Cruz County is blessed with 14 state parks, including the popular Henry Cowell Redwoods State Park, accessible by steam train from the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk. The train will carry you to and through the towering redwoods and back. Check the schedule before you go, as the trains only run on weekends in the fall. Hiking and/or biking through Big Basin Redwood Forest is a lifetime memory. Henry Cowell Redwood Forest and State Park is home to a centuries old Redwood Grove that features a self-guided nature path. The park has a picnic area above the San Lorenzo River. Anglers fish for steelhead and salmon during the winter (catch and release).

If you're ready for more adventure, rent a kayak and check out the sea life in the local harbor and/or estuaries at Moss Landing.

There are plenty of places in Santa Cruz County to end the day with a glass of wine and a fresh plate of seafood. The pier at the Boardwalk is one of our favorite places to enjoy breakfast or toast the sunset.

The Shadow Brook Restaurant in nearby Capitola is a wonderful place for a special dining experience. Fragrant gardens and rustic creek-side location add much to the ambience, not to mention a quaint cable car that takes you down to the restaurant and lounge to enjoy live guitar music and happy hour.

About Lorraine Heng

After teaching for thirty-four years and maintaining cars, airplanes and properties for even longer, being parents and grandparents, we have become 'snowbirds'. Creating 'home' along the west coast has been a life long passion. This Pleasure Point Cottage is one of our favorites. It's a place we enjoy coming to for sheer relaxation, and we take delight in creating an affordable vacation option for others.

Lorraine Heng purchased this cottage in 1979

Why Lorraine Heng chose Santa Cruz

We love the ambience, especially the fresh ocean air, the mild climate and natural beauty of Monterey Bay with its powerful surge of ocean waves on the beach. There is a wealth of outdoor activities here, and access to either San Francisco peninsula or Carmel-by-the-Sea is easy from the Santa Cruz area.

What makes this cottage unique

Where else in the world can you, walk out your front door and down the street a couple of blocks to go surfing, comfortably stroll so many beaches, walk the dog through the Light House Field or along the marshes, go deep sea fishing or sailing, go hiking or ride horseback through the nearby redwood forests; or go kayaking in the Elk Horn Slough? A continuing favorite is to watch the otters, birds and sea lions play in the estuary at sun set, while enjoying a fine fish dinner at Moss Landing.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Thank you so much. We enjoyed our stay. The boys loved it. They liked to play ball in the yard. You have a very nice neighbor who retrieved a ball from her yard for them. : ) We appreciated the floor mats for them to sleep on. We also loved that we could bring our little dog. She is blind and we hate to leave her behind.

Nice cottage, quite, clean, basic, great location

  • 4 of 5

We stayed here for three days. Dealing with the owners ( Lorraine)was very pleasant and easy. Cottage B was perfect for our needs and time frame. The cottage is neat, clean and quite. Next time I would bring some kind of outside chairs for sitting out in the patio, BBQing etc. The location is excellent if you enjoy a very short walk to Pleasure Point (neighborhood surfers put their wet suits on at home and walk the short distance to the surf) The distance to the Santa Cruz Harbor is a short drive as well with excellent dining opportunities. We enjoyed our stay here and wish to Thank Lorraine and her husband for their sharing of this property.

Uncomfortable cottage in great location

  • 3 of 5

Good: nice neighborhood near the beach. Feels safe. Little yard area for your dog, includes all items for cooking.

Not good: lumpy bed felt old and uncomfortable, old furnishings, old dingy bedspread and linens. Expensive.

Owner's Response: Matress is only 2 years old and of good quality. The white leather sectional is about 6 years old. . . and still in good condtion. The tan, cotton comforter was chosen because it is washable. Keeping the overhead down and the property well maintained is important to us.

Great little Cottage

  • 4 of 5

We enjoyed our stay at Pleasure Point. Everything was as described. The kitchen is well stocked and there was plenty of room. We brought our grandsons who enjoyed playing in the yard. We were especially pleased that the cottage is pet friendly. Restaurants and attractions were close. An easy place to get to. Thanks Loraine for such great service.
