12 family members came to celebrate Mama and Papa's 50th wedding anniversary. WOW! What a wonderful time. This home met our needs just right. A memory never to be forgotten.
We were a group of thirteen friends from church in Silicon Valley. From the moment we walked into this home we were in awe of the amazing views. It couldn't be any closer to the water, and every single room had a picture perfect view of the ocean. The house was roomy with plenty of beds and bathrooms and everything was clean and looked freshly painted. The beds were very comfortable and we all slept well listening to the waves at night. The deck steps go down to a beach with the most beautiful golden sand I've ever seen. We had to pull chairs from around the house to fit everyone around the dining room table, but cooking breakfast and dinner was easy and we routinely had over five people cooking at once. The neighborhood around the home is safe and beautiful to explore. Management was extremely responsive - we barbequed quite a bit so we ran out of gas: management brought more gas the same day! Every one of us would come back to this home!
We stayed at Swaying Palms from Aug. 10-20, 2014, with as many as 13 people in our group arriving on different dates. We can confirm all the comments about the location, which is spectacular, with almost all the rooms having an oceanfront door or window. The kitchen was clean and well equipped, and the management company was very responsive when we called. There were also plenty of other good amenities such as beach toys, towels, chairs, etc. However, the house itself is quite run down and in need of updating. Close observers will spot that the ad pictures are color-enhanced for appeal, but even taking that into account left us a little surprised at how shabby some parts of the house actually were, including a lot of the dated furniture, fixtures, old beds/mattresses and items in need of repair. For the rental fees charged, we would expect the owners to spend a little more on updating and renovation, and encourage them to do so. (By comparison, we stayed at Hale Kepuhi, right next door, a few years back and found it to be much more nicely equipped with modern amenities, though fewer bedrooms.) If you're needing a beachfront house with 7 bedrooms, there aren't too many other options in the Haena area, and this house more than delivers on scenery and location, only a few minutes away from Hanalei. Everyone in our party had a fabulous time in this idyllic locale, but everyone was also commenting about the shabbiness of some of the accommodations. If you go in with lowered expectations about the condition of the house (i.e., not as new and colorful as pictured), you can't help but having a great time right on such a beautiful beach. All things considered however, having stayed there for ten days, we won't be returning to Swaying Palms.
Our group had a total of 13 people. 7 adults and 6 children. This was a great place to stay. Layout of the house was perfect for a large group. We never felt cramped or in each others way. The kitchen was furnished with a great amount of dishes, silverware, appliances, and pots/pans. Very comfortable stay. I hope to have the opportunity to stay there again.
We enjoyed every minute of our stay at this house. We were a group of friends, some of us couples, coming from all over the country. There was plenty of room to retreat to a quiet space or spend time together in the living area or on the "private" beach. Unfortunately the current can be rather strong so it wasn't advised to swim, but we put our feet in and enjoyed the sounds of the waves each night. The home was very clean and provided lots of outdoor seating options, which we always preferred. In addition, the home is just a short drive to shops, shave ice and a grocery store. We even got a chance to try surfing! We loved the home. Having laundry became very handy as Kauai is such a warm and wet island that things tend to get stinky pretty quickly. Some of our friends also enjoyed the fact that there is a coffee place within walking distance down the road. My husband and I loved that the Na'Pali coast hike starts about 8 minutes down the road. There is FANTASTIC snorkeling close by as well. We would highly recommend this place to any group.
Swaying Palms is a great place to stay. It was clean and spacious. Yes, it could use a little work and updating here and there but, overall, a really comfortable, very large house to spend time. Being right on the beach was great not only for playing in the surf but views throughout the house. We went to sleep with the sounds of the winds and surf, and woke to beautiful sunrises over the bay every morning. We had 12 people in our group and each couple had their own car (and we had space to park each one of them -- no problem). One of the things we especially noted was that this house was outfitted properly. Not only did they let us use the boogie boards, coolers, folding beach chairs, etc. -- but they also had common and uncommon cooking supplies, spices, and pretty much everything you would need to prepare large group meals. We've stayed at many VRBOs and this one made us feel most welcome. At $6K a week, this is a value most will not find on the island. However, if you really need super modern and updated throughout, this may not be your paradise. For most people, I think you will find it much more than adequate. Beautiful surroundings and happy faces abound.
I have been coming to Haena for 40 years. This house is the most beautiful place to feel at one with sand, the water, and the Hawaiian spirit. Our entire family came to rejoice in our togetherness one last time before age and illness could dim our spirits. It was a wonderful New Year's Eve. The young people loved the sun, the storms, and the comfort of the home. It is convenient to everything. Walk down the beach to the coffee shop in the morning, and walk to a nearby snorkeling beach later in the day. Our feet were always on the sand ,and the water was only a few feet away. There is no view from any house like this one. Magnificent week! Thank you!
