EXPERIENCE THE HOLLYWOOD LIFESTYLE and relax with 180 degree canyon and city views. The creative ambience has inspired artists to write scripts and compose music for the Hollywood industry. You can count Justin Timberlake, Charlize Theron, Katy Perry and many more as your famous neighbors. The property is surrounded by tropical gardens and flower beds atop the prestigious Hollywood Hills. Indoor/outdoor flow. Sun drenched. Secluded patio. Peaceful. Hard to believe that this hidden paradise is only a stones throw from where the action is: 5 minutes to HOLLYWOOD BOWL (open-air concerts). 6 min to UNIVERSAL STUDIOS. 7 min to KODAK THEATRE (Academy Awards), WALK OF FAME and NIGHTLIFE. Visit FARMER'S MARKET, GALLERIES, RESTAURANTS + MUSEUMS. 20 min to shop on RODEO DRIVE, 45 min to swim in the PACIFIC or hike in RUNYON CANYON which is in walking distance and enjoy the most breathtaking views of all of LA!
I am an European Journalist who has been covering Hollywood for over 30 years. My life and privilege has been to interview and learn from every major Hollywood talent: their dreams, ups and downs, successes and failures... I have been visited by Catherine Zeta-Jones to Arnold Schwarzenegger to Will Ferrell just to name a few. The property has been used for fashion shots and as a movie location. For me Los Angeles means sunshine, blue wide-open sky, diversity of people, natural wonders, individuality, unimaginable cuisine and 'The sky's the limit' attitude. What I love about my property is the location: far away and yet so close to the hustle and bustle of Hollywood... from here you can quickly be anywhere the action is in minutes...or just enjoying a serene day on top of the world.
Frances purchased this house in 1975
As soon as I came to Los Angeles my dream was to live on Mulholland Drive, which is for me as historic as a cathedral would be in a town in Europe. MULHOLLAND DRIVE is a painting by David Hockney. KING OF THE MOUNTAIN was a fictional movie with Dennis Hopper, Harry Hamlin and Dan Haggerty loosely based on actual Mulholland Drive racers. The films MULHOLLAND DRIVE and MULHOLLAND FALLS were named after the road. Video games GRAND THEFT AUTO and MIDNIGHT CLUB features Mulholland Drive. R.E.M.'s song ELECTROLITE was inspired by Mulholland Drive and is mentioned. TOM PETTY refers to 'glide down over Mulholland' in the hit song 'FREE FALLIN'. In LOVE AND BASKETBALL Mulholland Drive is referred to during the scene in which Q and Monica meet up outside of her bedroom after the Spring Dance. It marks the street as a dead end where couples go for privacy.
We just spent an extra long weekend in this lovely home in Hollywood Hills. It is even more spacious than it looks in the pictures, and the bedrooms are so quiet. The beds & linens are of the highest quality and we found everything so comfortable. The views from all sides are fantastic! We thoroughly enjoyed sitting in the garden taking in the wonderful weather and beautiful sights, right outside our door.
The location is perfect for all activities in this area. We could be on Sunset Blvd, Hollywood Blvd, or Beverly Hills within minutes. Hiking in Runyon Canyon is just around the corner. This home is located amidst all the stars' homes and it was so exciting trying to spot a few. I highly recommend this for any group of two or four people. We were with another couple and the way the bedrooms are situated, you would never even know there was anyone else in the house! We were fortunate to briefly meet the owner, Frances, who is so lovely. You will love staying here!
What a treat to stay in this Hollywood Hills property! Frances has thought of everything. We couldn't have asked for more. This midwest family of 4 (including 2 college age daughters) thoroughly enjoyed experiencing Hollywood for the first time while staying in this charming home. The location is so convenient. We never realized how close the areas of Beverly Hills, West Hollywood, and Hollywood are in relation to each other. Not to mention, it is a short drive to the beach. Having a parking spot included was another plus. If you are thinking of visiting the area and want to get a real feel for the Hills, this is the spot. Thanks Frances for everything.
We had an amazing three-day stay at Frances' lovely retreat! I marveled at the layout of her guest house and how every square inch of space was beautifully designed and carefully used, while also creating a feeling of spaciousness and calm. I think I most loved the gorgeous enclosed gardens with a stunning view of the hills! The private, tiled, L-shaped patio took us from our rental car to the patio entrance, and was extremely well lit with sensored lights that automatically came on in several places at night. I read through four books, and my son watched a DVD he's been wanting to see. This guest house also provided a nice amount of privacy. My teenaged son's bedroom was down the hallway from the long wall of DVD's, opposite the living room -- and mine was just off the living room, nearest the kitchen.
We packed a lot in during our short stay. We visited San Juan Capistrano; ate sushi at Little Tokyo; drove to Santa Monica Pier at sunset; attended Mass on Sunday; visited Evike (on my son's bucket list); explored Griffith Observatory; and took a peak at Runyan Canyon (I regret not spending more time there). Maybe next time!
Probably the most memorable, though, was the private two-hour tour we received from our guide at Glitterti Tours. We ventured into several neighborhoods (Hollywood Hills, the Birds (Bird Streets), and Holmby) where celebrities either currently live and once lived. Our guide (Colin -- amazing) literally took us right up to the front door of most of them, and gave us information about each. He showed us photos of what many of them look like BEHIND the gorgeous private facade of the front entrances. We saw so many homes that I couldn't begin to get photos of them all. One after another. We also saw the locations of some pretty notorious crime scenes (our request, since our tour was customizable). Additionally we drove and got some good history of Sunset Strip. Lastly, we drove down Rodeo Drive and got a glimpse of where Pretty Woman was filmed. Oddly, we didn't really see anyone shopping -- just looking! Our tour was worth every penny.
Frances was a lovely hostess! She provided excellent communication before, during, and after our stay. We hope to return again!
The location cannot be better. Close to Runyon Canyon with the most nice view of LA you can have. Close to Hollywood blv and Sunset blv and also to Universal. The host was perfect and very kind. I warmly recommend this house and the host. Could not been better.
You have all you want in the property and it is very safe and nice.
You need a car in LA and also to use this house. The distance between everything is very long and a car is needed, but if you use this house you will have close to beaches - Santa Monica, Venice and all the other beaches worth seeing and also to the streets above.
We had a wonderful experience. Close to so many great shops and restaurants and most importantly Runyon Canyon. And the courtyard garden is exquisite.
My family had a lovely time staying up at Frances' guest house. It's perfectly located and is a quiet and peaceful location which we really appreciated. Frances was very respectful of our privacy and I enjoyed the vast DVD collection on the one rainy day we experienced during our stay.
