Luxury Exceptional Family Friendly Private Home Rental with Pool

Bedrooms 3
Property type barn
Minimum Stay 7 nights

About the property

Barn, 3 Bedrooms, 3 Baths, (Sleeps 6 + infant)

There are lots of homes available to rent for your vacation and it becomes almost impossible to choose from amongst the hundreds of seemingly enticing properties.

Holiday time is a rare and special thing these days and time off needs to count, especially when you are sharing it with family and friends. Look back and what do you see: I imagine that there are flashes of happy holidays, most often as a child.

It is this that has inspired us to create something special at La Bergerie au Bouyssou; what you are treated to at our holiday home just for guests is a truly memorable experience, not just a holiday.

Yes, we have the beautiful building, a traditional 1840's Quercy style farm barn lovingly restored by us (background in architecture, building and antiques), with sumptuous stylish interiors. Yes, we have an enviable location, surrounded by fields, woodland and valley views. Yes, we have every facility that could be desired, including a gourmet kitchen, private terraces and gardens with a large exclusive use salt water swimming pool. Yes, we are in one of the most astounding parts of the country - the highest number of 'Most Beautiful Villages in France' in our vacinity, finalists and winners from the last three years of 'France's Favourite Village' less than an hour from the door, more heritage sites and awesome landscapes than can be imagined.

However, we have also created an enchanting environment where everyone gets the holiday that they want and need, for families and others to instantly relax, indulge themselves and have fun. As a family we are dedicated to our guests. Should they want peace and isolation, that's what they get (but just try and stop the secret host fairies from leaving a personalised itinerary of our very favourite spots, dropping off a delicious cake, jar of homemade something, basket of freshly laid eggs or panier of fruit/vegetables from our organic potager and even delivery of our homemade pizza from our wood fires bread oven can be discreet!).

Should our guests have children, then that's where we are exceptional and believe, unique. All the luxurious treats and comfort for the grown ups but with everything that you might need for the children, including beautiful wooden cots, high chairs, lots of toys, games, books, DVD's, children's cutlery and crockery, baby bouncers and play mats, baby baths and bath toys etc. etc.. Outside is a 'Narnia . . . Paradise' say our guests, with wooden pirate ship, wooden swing set with slides and 'hotel', sandpit, play chalet with dress up, archery set and lots of outdoor toys and games, mini pretend shop, giant chalkboard and a 'reservation' area with hand made wigwam, campfire and replica wooden settlers wagon! The most important fact is that this is not for a cluster of gites on the same premises, this is all for the exclusive use of one party of guests staying in the barn.

If the little ones are in need of a distraction, we are on hand to lead the 'Treasure Hunt', do a bit of face painting, throw a little party, gather around the camp fire and as night falls and there are yawns aplenty, big ones can head off to a local acclaimed restaurant whilst the tots are watched over by Sarah, one of the owners.

We take the strain of shopping on arrival and do all of this for you in advance and we have been known to help with a bit of cooking (even a demonstration or two).

And with the recent completion of our wood fired oven, we get creative with home made pizzas and deliver them to your terrace!

We think that all of this is far more important than whether there is satelite TV and a washer/dryer (yes, there are) and the point is that we are available to make guests's holidays very special, whatever their needs.

We often have guests regale us with tales of disappointment about high expectations of other holidays, lavishly promoted but depressing on arrival with poor maintenance and shabby facilities. Their relief and delight on arrival at Le bouyssou is heartwarming; unlike most other properties, it is our mission every day to make sure that everywhere is cared for, in good repair, clean and immaculately presented (we even do all of our own linen washing and ironing and cleaning to make sure that everything is in excellent condition).

See our Testimonials page on our website; praise from delighted (and often emotional) guests, not just our proud prose!

Fi Glover a UK BBC TV and Radio presenter, has been so 'mesmerised' by La Bergerie au Bouyssou that she reports on her holidays there in her column in a UK national magazine:

'Perched high above the lush valleys of the Lot river lies Le Bouyssou, a gite so lovely that I almost don't want to tell you about it.

The hilltop breeze charms the surface of the pool, the verbenas sway, a swallowtail butterfly wafts through. Everyone relaxes. We have visited with the same friends both years and one of the daily highlights is to eat on the terrace after the kids have gone to bed, looking at the starry, starry night and talking'

In her personal thanks to the owners she has said another 'year here and every bit as good as the first. A beautiful place run to perfection by talented people . . . Thank you for another wonderful fortnight in paradise. Until next year . . .' Her family has returned every year . . .

Guests so far have described their stay at La Bergerie au Bouyssou as 'a dream holiday', 'paradise' (from a celebrity!) 'best holiday ever', 'the house is so beautiful it makes you want to cry - I actually did' and a prestigious guide book (Alastair Sawday) have inspected, accredited and commented that 'only wild horses would drag you away' . . .

La Bergerie au Bouyssou is the perfect base for a French holiday; you will experience a true taste of rural France, rich in medieval history, with long hot summers and delightful springs and autumns, a gem in the ring of a glorious area.

Down to the details . . . The property is a stone barn conversion on two floors (three bedrooms, which sleep 6 plus cot if required).

The accommodation features on the ground floor a large well equipped kitchen with washing machine, tumble dryer and dish washing machine, large range style cooker (five gas rings with two electric ovens and grill) 'Belfast' type double sink, large fridge freezer, coffee machine, toaster and all the equipment you would expect in your own home.

There is a stable door from the kitchen leading to the dining room. The large handmade oak top table seats six/eight and there is a CD player for your entertainment (with a selection of CD's)

Steps from the dining room lead to the sitting room. Here you will find comfortable seating for six people, a desk with internet access, reading material, maps and guides, a TV with satellite UK free view channels and DVD player with a selection of DVD's, a wood burning stove and French windows leading to a large covered external terrace with deep rattan seats and a huge handmade oak table, looking out over the pool area and the valley beyond.

On the first floor, Chambre Beatrice, the first double bedroom, features antique furniture including a wardrobe and king size bed. It also has an en-suite shower room with hand basin, WC and heated towel rail. The room also has its own private covered terrace with wooden decking and seating. This room can also be entered at (upper) ground level.

Chambre Josephine is the second double bedroom and has a king size bed, antique furniture including wardrobe and chest of drawers and en-suite shower room with WC and heated towel rail. The hand basin is a feature within the bedroom itself.

Chambre Madeleine, the third bedroom, has antique furniture including wardrobe and other storage with twin beds (which can be converted to a super king size bed under some circumstances if required). We can also add a small child's bed if required (depending on rental period). This bedroom is adjacent to the family bathroom.

A pretty wooden cot can be added to any bedroom - please enquire for details.

The family bathroom (independent access) has a cast iron free standing roll top bath with hand shower attachment, hand basin, a WC and bidet and large heated towel rail.

La Bergerie has its own private garden, large covered south facing sun terrace, covered canopy on the upper level and a BBQ Area. The gardens and grounds to Le Bouyssou are extensive, with large organic vegetable garden, lawn area for games, a secret garden with perfect shade. A 12x6m natural salt water system swimming pool with decking and teak loungers awaits, all for guest's exclusive use. A large car park for 3/4 cars. We are also able to offer eggs from our free range chickens and seasonal produce from the organic garden (when available).

About Sarah Jones

In search of a better quality of life for our family, we decided to move to France in 2006. Mother, Father, Daughter, Son in Law and little Millie: we found our gorgeous piece of rural France and have made it home for ourselves and a 'home from home' for our holiday guests. Coming from different backgrounds - Commerce, Architectural, Design and Antiques, we all brought something special to our project to create exceptional holiday accommodation and the result is something that we are very, very proud of. Mix in our passion for hospitality and desire to delight our guests and what you have is the charm of La Bergerie au Bouyssou.

Sarah Jones purchased this barn in 2006

Why Sarah Jones chose Causse-et-Diège

The more times that we visited and travelled around France, the harder it was to leave this beautiful and fascinating country. We decided to create the kind of luxury holiday accommodation that we had been searching for, to provide the perfect holiday for lovers of France like ourselves. A considerable amount of research went into the decision to focus on the Aveyron department in the south of the country. We wanted somewhere unspoilt with lots of history and sites of interest, quiet, yet accessible. Here, where we settled 'has it all'. Ten of the most beautiful villages in France, five ‘Bastides’ (walled towns that were built in the 13th century),the architectural marvel the Millau Viaduct (the tallest bridge in the world) with the Roquefort cheese caves close to the bridge site. We would also strongly recommend visits to Conques (a world heritage site), Cordes sur ciel (hill top town), Najac, Belcastel and Sauveterre de Rouergue (all members of the exclusive group ‘most beautiful villages in France’). Villefranche de Rouergue is less than half an hour from Le Bouyssou, with its famous Thursday market, said to be the second largest in France. A must, our local town, is Figeac (said to be ‘the best small town in France’) and its great Saturday market. Rocamadour (one of the most visited sites in France), St Cirq Lapopie (a breathtaking hill top town – one of our favourites in the area and has recently been voted France's 'Most Favourite Village'!), the world famous Pech Merle caves (with the prehistoric cave paintings) and Cahors for its fine wine and its medieval bridge and the beautiful and quintessentially French town of Sarlat are all within easy reach. You can visit the largest brick building in the world, the magnificent St Cecile’s Cathedral at Albi (which also has the new Toulouse Lautrec museum). Tennis, canoeing, fishing, golf and an excellent equestrian centre are just minutes away. We can also arrange balloon flights from our village, Loupiac.

Beyond our Expectations!

  • 5 of 5

Absolutely superb in every way! Loved everything about the Villa, the French countryside and our hosts! Sarah has thought of every detail. It is simply superb. I would have quite happily just moved in. Sarah and her family were fabulous. They did everything they could to make our stay an enjoyable one. Nothing was too hard. As a foodie I especially loved all the local markets. From New Zealand our French was not that great but we had lots of fun making our selves understood. The locals were very patient with us. It had been on my bucket list to rent a Villa in France. I can say without reservation that it was the best holiday ever. A huge thanks to you all! Hopefully one day we will be back :-)
