This green home is located only 4 miles from interstate 70 and Idaho Springs or Central City on six acres of mountain paradise. Spectacular views of the continental divide and the 14,000 foot peaks viewed through the extensive south facing windows. Gambling is just a few minutes away in the city of Black hawk. Designed in coordination with engineers at National Renewable Energy Laboratories as a super efficient net zero carbon home. Power is by way of photovoltaic panels and wind turbine without sacrificing luxury. Construction of this very green home completed in 2009. The 2200sf luxurious off grid home has a zero carbon footprint without compromising comfort.

Remote location: Home is located three miles off Fall River (blacktop road) and is at 9600 feet in elevation. The last mile is not a county maintained road. Four wheel drive is strongly recommended during winter months.

About Mike Sowder

Diane is a native of Evergeen Colorado and Mike is from Kentucky. Mike moved here in 1983 fresh out of college and fell in love with Diane and the mountains. We fufilled our dream of building a carbon net zero (green) mountain home in 2009. Mike is a former employee of National Renewable Energy Laboratory and Diane works with special needs children.

Amazing house with great views!!!

We were a family of five and everyone loved this house. Perfect for people want to get away without being to far from a town. The house has everything you need except food. We were did go to St. Mary's Glacier which is not to far and it was amazing. Would choose this house again.

If you truly want to get away without sacrificing luxury!

WOW - I cannot say enough about the stay here. I took a party of 8 here, ranging from 3-44 years old - and we were all taken in by the beauty and remote feel of this home. I say remote - you are literally at the top of the most amazing views from a mountainside - where endless sunsets and sunrises are how you start and finish your days. We were here to snowboard, and after one day of hitting Loveland and A-Basin, the kids and I all chose to hang around the home instead. There is a year's supply of stocked firewood in the garage and in the home next to the fireplace. The home had awesome hot water for all of us to shower and the master shower is AMAZING! The owner was always a text away, and was so gracious to always give great information regarding the home or questions on the area. If you stay here, I will INSIST you venture out to hike St Mary's Glacier....the favorite of all of us for the trip. We woke many mornings to fresh snow, and hiking the glacier was like a scene from Narnia....bliss. Go into town as well, as it is fun to hit the shops and grab a beer at the brewery. We had fire pit night and grilled as well, as everything is stocked and ready to go!

This will be where we stay for summer or winter Colorado trips...just cannot say enough great things about this home...and how we utilized all the amenities the home and its' owners provided!

comfortable mountain house

Our group included 5 adults (2 couples, one single person) and two pups and we were very comfortable. We especially enjoyed the fireplace and the fact each bedroom had a king bed. Since it was winter and blistering outside we didn't get a chance to enjoy the fire-pit and back patio and grill much but we really soaked in the view each morning and cozied up to the fire place and comfy living room after a full day of hiking, skiing, or snowmobiling. Of course having Beau Jo's pizza in Idaho Springs was a nice option on that day we didn't cook, but overall plenty of space to spread out cook and relax.

We definitely will be remembering this property in the future for summer or winter trips.

Mike and Diane were responsive and very helpful when needed. The description and pictures are very accurate.

In the winter season, do not dismiss the requirement to drive on mountainous roads to get to/from this house.

Great family trip in fantastic property

Mike was very easy to work with in setting this trip up. The home is beautiful. We used the outdoor fire pit each night, and outdoor kitchen to grill one of the evenings. Plenty of space, and everything as good or better than the listing.

Daughters are already asking when we can stay here again.
