The River Runs Through It! Wapiti Cabin is located on 18 acres of private ground just off Hwy 7 with the Powder River running through it. Great rainbow trout fishing spring, summer and fall. The Powder River is an excellent place to fly fish or to learn to fly fish. Phillips Reservoir is 5 miles up the road and offers boating, swimming or fishing. It's a short ride to the mountains (Anthony Lakes), Historical Baker City or Sumpter. We fondly refer to this property as 'the cabin' when it is really a very nice house with easy access and an open layout. Each bedroom has a king size log bed with a sofa bed in the living room. It has a fully-equipped kitchen, laundry facilities and all the amenities that make for a comfortable stay. We pride ourselves in keeping the cabin extremely clean and maintained.
You will enjoy the serenity of the river or watching the elk, deer, wild turkeys and numerous birds. We also raise a small heard of alpacas that roam the area.
Keywords: Wapiti Cabin is located about 12 miles from Baker City. It is on Highway 7 between Baker City and Sumpter along the Powder River with lots of room to roam and a country setting.
Dennis and Darlene own Wapiti Cabin and are local residents and business owners in Baker City since 1992. We have built our own little haven here on the river, enjoy the outdoors and the laid back life of a small community. Our home is also located on the property.
Darlene or Dennis purchased this house in 2010
Wapiti Cabin is perfect for those looking for a peaceful and quiet get away. The location is beautiful and serene with all the amenities needed for your perfect private retreat!
I have stayed at the Wapiti Cabin multiple times over the last few years and have always been impressed with my experience. The cabin has always been spotless and I have never had a problem with any kind of bugs as the previous reviewer has. It appears I stayed at the cabin shortly after the last reviewer who claimed the cabin had bed bugs, but I didn't have the same experience. The cabin was clean as usual. When I am in the area, I make it a point to reserve this home and I consider the owner one of the best in the VRBO business!
We stayed here last month for 3 days and came home with bed bugs. Although the cabin was neat and clean and the setting is awesome. I would not stay here again unless I was assured that they had taken care of the bed bug situation. Its going to cost me a small fortune to get rid of them.
"Wapiti Cabin" turned out to be a delightful home with an outstanding view of the Powder River. The "cabin" was neat and clean and equipped with modern appliances as well as a complete supply of quality dishes, cooking utensils, and silverware. The cabin's custom made king size beds and dining room table were very impressive.
During our stay we visited Baker City and made the short drive to Haines for dinner at the Haines Steak House, but mostly we just relaxed at the cabin. My wife worked on her quilting and I fished the river. We spent a fair amount of time sitting on the porch enjoying the peace and quiet and admiring the view. The abundant wildlife, ranging from numerous bird species to mule deer browsing in the yard, certainly added to our enjoyment.
Thanks for a great stay. We plan to visit Wapiti Cabin again.
We stayed at Wapiti Cabin last summer. It is best described as A River Runs Through It. We enjoyed fishing the Powder River as well as surrounding lakes - Phillips Reservoir & Anthony Lakes. The cabin was comfortable and clean. The owners are accommodating and give you privacy. We enjoyed the local Farmers Market, the museums and the Chinese restaurant Golden Crown was awesome.
We came to Baker City, OR to attend both nights at Baker City Broncs & Bulls. After dropping our other friends at their hotels in town, we drove the 10+ miles through the beautiful countryside to arrive at Wapiti Cabin. Truly perfectly appointed!!! Everything you need is here. The cabin is immaculate and well maintained. The setting is beautiful and the quiet that comes from being a few miles out of town is delightful. There was even a little treat left in the fridge for us, farm fresh eggs and a tomato.
Had a great time and would be our first choice in lodging if/when we return to the Baker City area.
We gathered for a family reunion. We used the cabin and parked our RV. What a great place. Everyone, I mean everyone of us were very impressed by the beauty of the setting and the comfort of the cabin. No cell phone service, but land line phone for incoming calls from anywhere. It was convient to Baker. Fishing was fun. We were all able to really relax and enjoy our visit. Thank you for your hospitality. We want to make this an annual event.
