Bedrooms Studio
Space 500 sq ft
Property type cabin

About the property

1 Bedroom + Loft, 1 Bath, Sleeps 4-5.

Originally sited outside of Helena, this wonderfully rebuilt 1800's log cabin still holds all the magic and mystery of the old gold mining days. Owner, Sarah Muller bought the cabin, moved it and re-stacked it at its present location in the historic gold mining town of Old Chico.

The Homestead cabin sleeps four comfortably. Wireless internet is included. Full bathroom with shower, fully equipped kitchen; microwave, coffee maker, blender, stove, pots and pans, and a beautiful marbled gas fired stove.

A perfectly situated cabin in the middle of Paradise Valley, where you can gaze at the night stars in the peaceful serenity of the Emigrant Gulch.

Close enough to Yellowstone for day trips in the park and back home to enjoy a nice BBQ on the back deck or treat yourself to dinner out at one of the fine restaurants in the area.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Our second visit to your Homestead Cabin and Yellowstone was just as memorable as the first. It felt like yesterday being here, whereas it's been 2 years ago already! The quiet, cozy cabin and the beautiful surroundings felt like an extension of the national park. Thanks again for your hospitality and the use of the incredible cabin. If we ever make it a third time, we definitely know where to find you!

Cozy cabin with all your needs attended to

  • 5 of 5

Homestead Cabin was delightful. Everything you thought you might need or want Sarah has provided. That includes her warm and gracious self. We hiked and cooked and relaxed. There are bluebirds and bunnies to visit with and deer wandering each evening. Organic linens and down duvets make the beds heavenly. What a great valley and charming cabin. We will definitely recommend this and return

Homestead Cabin

  • 5 of 5

This is a nice, cozy cabin. Sarah is a most accommodating host, and cared about the enjoyment of our stay. She is a wealth of knowledge about Yellowstone Park and the Chico Springs area! We want to try and plan a trip for all of our Children and Grandchildren, and are hoping to rent all of her cabins when the 3rd. is finished.

I would recommend any of the cabins that Sarah has for rent.

Thanks Sarah!

We stayed here so we could go to nearby Chico Hot Spring, but we liked the cabin so well that we decided to forego going to Chico where the crowd was dense on Easter weekend. The cabin had everything we wanted, except maybe a TV/DVD. The host was great.

True Cfratsmanship and don't rush out to Yellowstone

  • 5 of 5

My wife and myself stayed with Sarah 2 very short nights in October. We had a guided fishing tour on the Madison River and a guided your of Yellowstone. While Ennis was a very nice little town in the Madison Valley and Yellowstone was something to see, it is our first national park and all; but there is something very special about The Paradise Valley. The people, the views, the gravel roads and not to mention the history, this area has a very magical pull to our hearts. And staying at Sarah's truly amazing cabin didn't hurt none. I was blown away by the attention to detail, and the beauty of the chinking and woodworking; even down to the horseshoe handles on the ladder leading to the loft, truly awesome. So your next trip to Montana, take your time in Emigrant and Chico, take a drive out Colin Rd & Chico Cemetery Rd at sundown, fish the Yellowstone and go horseback riding; don't rush to Yellowstone as fast as everyone does, you'll miss a very special place.

In Yellowstone National Park there are 2.5 million acres to explore. Chico Hot Springs Resort is one mile from the my cabins and offers a natural hot spring pool to soak in, horseback riding (Rocking HK Outfitters), restaurants and a saloon with live music.

Hike out your front door up the Emigrant gulch, or choose one of the many forest service hiking trails in the nearby valley.

Floating the Yellowstone River that flows the length of Paradise Valley. The Yellowstone River is river is only un-damed river in the lower 48 states. It’s the perfect way to spend a day or relaxing canoeing, fishing or whitewater rafting.

Boat rentals are available at the Rubber Ducky Rentals in Livingston.

Guided fishing trips that I recommend is

Anglers West fly shop at can help you with all your fly fishing needs.

Yellowstone in winter is my favorite time of year, it is truly a winter wonderland.

December thru March the parks concessionaire Xanterra

offers interpreted snow coach tours into the interior of the park. They also offer ski and snowshoe rentals.

If your looking to ski locally Timber Trails

in Livingston offers rentals too.

Dog sled treks by Absaroka Dogsled Treks operates out of Chico Hot Spring Resort. They trek up the Mill Creek Road, a drainage north of my cabins. Mill Creek is also one of my favorite place to cross country ski and snowshoe.

Downhill skiing at Bridger Bowl is a great local ski area only one hours drive.

Restaurants and more

Chico Hot Springs has a few options, from their pool side grill to fine dining (reservations highly recommended).

Yellowstone Valley Grill has culinary fine dining, enjoy indoor dining or sit on their open patio with a view of the Yellowstone River in Paradise Valley. Dinner highly recommended and reservations are needed.

Wildflower Bakery and Follow Your Nose BBQ

is my local hangout, the bakery is open for breakfast and lunch, Follow Your Nose BBQ is open during the summer with occasional outdoor music. It’s the perfect place to load up on fresh pastries, and bread for a day of exploring.

The small community of Emigrant is 4 short miles from my cabins. It has a bank, Post Office, a general store, gas station, car wash and laundromat.

Livingston is an extraordinary small town half hours drive from here. It provides galleries, antique and thrift stores, restaurants, coffee shops, brew pubs and bakeries. Some of my favorites are Out of the Blue Antiques and Curator Closet. For a nice cup of Joe, check out Coffee Crossing.
