Many Loire chateau are nearby as well as great restaurants and other visitor attractions. This is a spacious and romantic 15th-19th century stone house (over 200 square meters) perfect for four couples, family parties, or just a few of you. Walk to pharmacy, bakery, two restaurants. Enjoy apéros and dinners in our quiet private gardens and courtyards.
Renters love our place as shown by a few of our recent reviews:
A CORNER OF PARADISE: "The property is a delight. The manor house is very comfortable, with the most spectacular setting and lovely gardens; the owners have thought of every detail to make a guest feel immediately at home. The house has a great kitchen for eating in; the village and surrounding towns provide wonderful choices for when you want to eat out. A thoroughly enjoyable week." Whit, June, 2015
ABSOLUTELY STUNNING: "I should explain that you will find this property stunning only if you have an appreciation for magnificent buildings, several hundred years old, restored sensitively and professionally, filled with original art hung in spacious rooms, with a fully equipped cook's kitchen and superb landscaping. It was as if some good friends of yours lent you their house while they went to Paris for the weekend. Add a charming little town with a couple of restaurants, a Tabac, Espicier and Boulangerie, surrounded by the vineyards of the Loire. After all, how much better could it possibly get?" Robert, June, 2015
Our home has old turrets, stone walls, beams, fireplaces and large kitchen, dining and living areas. Our property is completely surrounded by high old stone walls for your privacy and quiet enjoyment. Don't miss the local markets nearby throughout the week in the cities of Saumur, Thouars, Montreuil-Bellay, Chinon, Angers, and Doué la Fontaine.
A three hour drive from Paris or the Atlantic coast. A 20 minute ride from train stations and car rental. Despite its large size, renters have the place to themselves.
Le Puy Notre Dame is a peaceful and authentic French village. Church bells ring throug the day. Locals frequent the tobac for a coffee, beer and wine. Children walk to the local schools. The smell of crushed grapes fill the air during fall harvest. The occasional wine tractors pass on their way to adjacent vineyards. Patrons gather at Le Bochon Ponot for the 11 euros lunch. Trucks come through the village on Rue des Picards (D178) north of the church past the Marie. Cars navigate the narrow and winding medieval streets and stop to talk with friends. Power lines are underground and pleasant antique lights show the way at night. Flowers pots hang throughout the village. Le Puy Notre Dame offers a pleasant blend of country living and village life.
Kindly provide your street address, city, country and telephone number when booking our property.

This is a unique property; it is a romantic old place with attractive gardens, close to village amenities and the French countryside. It can easily accommodate large or small parties. We love walking in the village to the bakery and epicérie, dining in the restaurants, having coffee, wine and lunches in nearby villages and cities. We enjoy Loire wines, probably the most diverse wine region in France. We have not yet visited all of the many villages and chateaux. The restaurants in the area are excellent, whether Michelin stars, or village bistros. We live here six months a year, so it is much loved and cared for; when you rent you have the property to yourselves.
We had an amazing stay in Bob and Beth's house/ mini chateau. The building was really interesting with turrets and never ending rooms. There was so much space and it has been done up really well. We were very comfortable there and felt at home straight away. The enclosed secluded gardens were just what we needed to relax in when we weren't off exploring the local vineyards, castles and caves.
Bob was really helpful and provided lots of information to help us enjoy the Loire valley. Would recommend staying here to everyone and hope we can come back again one day.
Staying at Bob and Beth's was wonderful, petit chateau was the perfect spot for our two week family vacation. We had time to explore local vineyards like Manoir de la Tête Rouge and several chateaux, small and large. The house works for families of different sizes and has a good working kitchen for those who love to cook. Le Puy is close to several food markets with fabulous food. If cooking is not your thing, restaurants are close by, like in Montreuil-Bellay at L' Auberge Des Iles. Our vacation overlapped with the Grand Prix Retro which showcased the village's wines and joie de vivre while hosting vintage race cars, motorbikes and motorbikes with sidecars. We were well taken care of by neighbors Jean-Marie and Monique who shared an apero with us as well as information about the village. The garden is an oasis with the fragrant aroma of jasmine.
Bob and Beth have left a complete binder of local activities in villages near and far and are available for questions if any should arise while staying. Our children who are high school and college age loved relaxing and being able to play soccer (football) at the local sport field. This is unusual because not all villages leave their sport fields open to the public. We highly recommend this property and would stay there again. Thank you Bob and Beth!
The Gardiner Family
The property is a real surprise as it lies behind a front gate and huge driveway gate. Within, there is a beautiful and authentic manoir with lovely well kept gardens.
The property feels more like a home rather than a holiday rental, because the owner, Bob, lives her for several months of the year. Therefore, the house is really well equipped. Bob was extremely helpful, providing us with lots of information about wine tasting and activities taking place during our visit. There is a good information pack at the property. Bob also has very nice local support - for the handover; any domestic problems and the garden (3 English people).
We really liked the village - The church dominates the skyline. Great to have a boulangerie and a good restaurant just a short walk away. And there are opportunities for wine tasting at several vignerons within the village. Great wine too!
We also found that the village is nicely located. 10 minutes in the car for the supermarket at Doue-la-Fontaine and a similar distance to the pretty chateau town of Montreuil-Bellay. Saumar is only 25 minutes away too.
Overall, we had a fantastic time here and would thoroughly recommend.
Are there any cons? I can only think of two. The gardens are ornamental with a long gravel driveway, so children don't have a lawn area for ball games. In the manoir, the main staircase is a lovely spiral one. Might be a bit awkward for someone with mobility problems.
Many thanks, Bob. You are a fantastic host!
Bob and Beth have created a wonderful home in the Loire. We stayed in Le Puy for five weeks this past spring (2016) and liked it so much that we have taken the property again for six weeks in 2017. Rather than repeat the positive comments others have posted, I urge potential guests to read the other reviews. My partner and I have been renting vacation homes in France for ten years (usually two per year) and this is one of the finest we have had.
Thank you Bob and Beth for offering this vacation rental!
We loved this spacious manor house and it's quiet, private courtyard. We have 2 young children so it was great to be able to let them out to roam amongst the beds and plants. The house itself was really comfortable and well equipped. Everyone involved in our stay was great, from Jean Marie who let us in to Claire the caretaker with some really nice trips and Bob, the owner who was amazing helpful and had lots of good suggestions. It's a loverly part of France and a lovely village with a baker, a tabac, pharmacy, small grocer and two restaurants. There are lots of things to do within an hours drive or less - an imaginative zoo, a great tank museum, caves to explore as well as the cities and chateaus of the area.
We thoroughly enjoyed our holiday in the chateau dating in parts from the 16th century which was very large and comfortable. Although we only used 4 rooms all were available but there were only 3 of us and we ate in the large, very well equipped kitchen with a table in it for 4 - 6 people. The bedrooms were clean, large and comfortable and the bathrooms, and showers were excellent. The garden was well kept by the gardener and we could easily see the Cathedral (upper half) from the garden in which we could have outdoor meals etc. In all we would recommend this chateau (large and historical) and the location with many pretty towns and villages near by. Thank you Bob and Beth.
wine tours; great chateaux and medieval cities
