We loved everything about our extended stay here. The apartment felt very much like home - spacious & elegant, well furnished & maintained, with great light & beautiful outdoor areas - a rare find in the city. The location is great too, with lots of shops & restaurants within walking distance and easy access to transit (BART and Muni trains & buses). And the hosts, Kim and Mark, were friendly and responsive while maintaining a nice sense of privacy. An ideal stay in San Francisco, thanks!
A Beautiful Victorian but with Negatives
We loved the property when we stayed there, it is a beautifully restored Victorian with period details and tons of room. It is in a central location with access to the Muni and Bart after a short walk, and both the Mission District and Noe Valley offer lots of options for eating, drinking, and nightlife.
However, while we loved the house itself, there are also some distinct negatives.
The area is actually in the Mission district and on the border with Noe Valley, and can be very sketchy, so you definitely need to be careful at night. For example, there was a homeless man sleeping against the garage door in front of the house for several nights, and sirens were frequent heard.
Be aware that there are additional charges. For example there is a separate and non-optional cleaning fee in addition to the VRBO one that you have to pay directly to the cleaning service with a check for around $200. Parking is extra. As other reviewers have pointed out, the owners are very strict and will charge for anything broken, damaged, or for what some may consider normal wear and tear. They also require you to do a walk through before you depart, but we were still charged additional fees after checkout. The owners were also frequently checking on us during the stay, so some could find that a bit overbearing.
Also, while the house is beautiful, there is no child-proofing and it is not child friendly at all. For example, the stairs to the second level are very steep and the banister is low, so you’ll need to be very careful with young children. There are also multiple long cords on every window that could be a choking hazard.
• Beautiful and historic victorian with plenty of space and storage.
• Central location
• Location is actually in the Mission and can be sketchy.
• Owner is very particular and very strict.
• Additional charges and fees.
• No childproofing.
Final note: If you’re staying on July 4th, please be aware that several of the residents on the street constantly set off massive firework displays that last until the early hours of the morning, and while very impressive, if you have small children or are sensitive to explosions and smoke, I wouldn’t recommend this location at that time.
Returning deposits is important to us; it means the tenant is happy and we are happy not to have to pay for repairs or do extra cleaning. We like to be honest with people and hope they will be too. One of the comforts of this apartment is upholstered furniture. If there are spills we’d like to know about it rather than discovering permanently damaged upholstery hidden under a throw after departure and denial after we asked. A poor review, especially from someone who actually offered to purchase the apartment twice during his stay, seems unjust. An accurate description of our property, its location and all charges have always been posted on our listing. The neighborhood is great!
Lovely property in fantastic location! The two story Victorian has a well equipped chef’s kitchen with a center island. The home is clean, quiet, and comfortable. Walk
to and or short ride to restaurants, grocery stores, shopping, and personal
services. Owners are very nice and responsive to your needs. We highly recommend this VRBO!
Pretty close to heaven.
What a treat to stay in this beautifully restored piece of San Francisco history. Spacious, gracious, every detail attended to - just a dream vacation accommodation. Location is perfect with three neighborhoods easily accessible - Noe Valley, Castro, Mission. Easy and pleasant access to downtown and South of Market on the J-Church street car. There are probably 30 restaurants in a ten block walking radius. Kim and Mark are ideal hosts, available when needed but never intrusive. Highly recommend this delightful home.
Noe Valley Gem!
This apartment is absolutely amazing. The pictures don’t do this apartment justice. It’s spacious with great furnishings and tons of outdoor space. On the boarder of Noe Valley and Mission, you couldn’t ask for a better location. There are tons of restaurants, bars and grocery stores within a few blocks. It’s on the corner of a quiet street, but only steps away from the action. A duplex, equipped with laundry and parking (if needed), with access to Bart & Muni – you’ve hit the lottery.
This apartment is a fantastic place to spend time in San Francisco and we've truly been spoiled!
Amazing location and perfectly equipped house.
