This 1850's French Creole cottage has been completely restored and offers you all of the comforts and privacy of home. It is located only one block from downtown historic Natchitoches as well as the Natchitoches Events Center and the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame.
The home has original double French doors and windows on the galley front porch, where you may relax in a swing or a plantation rocking chair. One half of the home features a cozy living room with fireplace, a dining room, and a fully equipped kitchen with new appliances. The other half of the house comprises a bedroom with queen size bed and bath, a second bedroom with king size bed and bath and an adjoining sitting room/library. The ceilings are high and there are ceiling fans in every room. Luxury mattresses and linens as well as down duvets are provided. Off street parking behind home.
Enjoy the covered back patio with comfortable furniture. Bring your own wine and relax!
Natchitoches is the oldest permanent settlement in the Louisiana Purchase territory (1714) four years older than New Orleans in fact. There are car tours to several antebellum homes down the River Road, as well as horse and buggy tours of the Landmark Historic District. There is easy access to Cane River Lake as well as Red River. Natchitoches is known for its festivals and there are many to choose from. Live entertainment is provided at several of the downtown restaurants and bars, and in the summer the Green Market is held every Saturday on the riverbank.
This property has been in my family for about 50 years. One of my close friends really wanted to open a bed and breakfast and she approached me about buying into my property and doing a guest house together. We have worked very hard to make this home something to be proud of and comfortable for people to enjoy and use. We have had many comments in our journal and guests truly seem to appreciate our efforts. This Cottage is really a home away from home! Natchitoches is a lovely place to visit and explore.

Carrie Lou & Pat purchased this cottage in 1960
Natchitoches has so much to offer to visitors and it's surprising how many people have moved here after one visit. There is also a very active artist community and there's certainly plenty of material to foster creativity. Northwestern State University has a wonderful music department and throughout the year has many concerts. The drama department also features plays on a pretty regular basis. Many people come here to research their genealogy either at the college library or the Old Courthouse where many records are kept.
This property is unique because it is so close to locations of interest within the city. It is located one block behind Kaffie Frederick General Mercantile, the oldest store in the state of Louisiana. You won't want to miss a visit! The Natchitoches Events Center is about a block away. The Parish Courthouse is about two blocks away and the downtown area and restaurants are all within short walking distance.
Thank you VERY much for everything! We had a wonderful time--very relaxing and special. Your cottage is charming. Please call when you have time--we'd like to make reservations for next December.
Had a great time. Everything was as promised. Will be back
The cottage was clean and cozy in the heart of the historic district. The front porch was perfect for relaxing in the spring weather. We were able to walk to the area shops and restaurants. The entire town was very friendly. We also enjoyed the banana nut bread from Pat and Lou. Would definitely recommend the cottage to friends and family visiting Natchitoches.
I would highly recommend this property. It is in a great location in downtown Natchitoches, easy walking distance to the historic district, shopping and several restaurants. It has a Southern charm and is spotless.
My sister-in-law rented the cottage for 6 nights thinking that there would be lots for us to do & see in the area. Upon arrival we were initially pleased with the cottage, but upon our first night we came to see some flaws. The cottage is on a very busy street & you can hear traffic all night long (to be fair most of the B&B's in the area are on busy streets also), there is a large free city parking lot right next door to the cottage & people park there all the time which provides it's own set of issue. First the lot is very nice but the level of the lot is higher than the property & therefore you feel like you are being viewed all the time unless you close the blinds. People park & lock their autos with the remote which makes a small horn beep this goes on until late at night & starts early in morning so there is no sleeping late because traffic starts up at about 6 am & then the car horns start beeping. We really had no issues with the house except for the musty smell, but that is to be expected in older properties in the south. The house was clean & well stocked, beds were comfortable & windows & doors locked securely. Never really felt uncomfortable security wise but 1 time & that was when we came in late one night, but place has out side motion lights that help. Not the best neighborhood but remember it is older area of town. There were smoke detectors & posted up to date city permits. Over all we were okay with the place, but if you are wanting to go to sleep early or sleep in - this is not the place for you.
We stayed 4 nights at the cottage and couldn't have been happier with our choice. Located a block from the riverfront it is an ideal location to be in.
The house itself is beautifully furnished and has everything you need. It was so pleasant to come home to our southern home after a long day sightseeing.
I cooked every evening and found the kitchen good to work in. The kitchen has all appliances necessary.
The bedrooms are very comfortable as are the beds. We slept very well.
Communication with the owners was always quick and efficient. On arrival Carrie-Lou had left us a tasty cranberry and pecan cake, super delicious.
We made various trips. Must do's: the historic Creole Trail along various plantations. West Monroe for antique alley; great shops and reasonable prices.
If I ever get the chance to return to Nachitoches the cottage will be the place I stay.
Thanks Carrie-Lou and Pat.
Spent 2 nights at the darling cottage for a girlfriend getaway. We have traveled together for nany years and are not easily impressed but this cottage did just that. So clean and well decorated you really feel southern charm here. I was so impressed that as a wedding gift for my son we are booking this cottage for him and his bride. You will not be disappointed,
Northwestern State University, the Louisiana School for Math, Science & the Arts, Genealogy & Historical Assoc., National Park Service, antebellum plantations and historic homes, horse and buggy rides, wonderful restaurants and shopping, alligator farm.
