Experience the charm of a French small town in a 19th century village house which used to be the stable for the nearby Belvedere. Stay in 'a town in the country', everything is within walking distance, shops as well as river banks and countryside. There are the best butchers, bakers and pastry shops! Located 10 minutes from Amboise - by car - one of the most visited cities in France, recently listed as one of the UNESCO World Heritage sites.
A separate entrance - from a cobblestone yard - takes you to your French nest.
Although you can cook at home, meals are a special treat in the area! You can help yourself from twice-weekly open-air market and local shops.
Many of our guets find it easier to travel to the Loire Valley by train and hire a car at Saint Pierre des Corps station where you have high speed trains (TGV) from Paris-Charles de Gaulle airport.

Writing to thank you for our stay in the cottage
We enjoyed our week's stay in the cottage. Bléré, isn't a tourist hot-spot
but is none the worse for that - it is actually a rather pleasant small town
and turned out to be very conveniently located. Chenonceaux and Amboise are
10mins away and Loches, an interesting old town, is a little more distant,
but well worth visiting, particularly on market day. The new A85 motorway
running East/West, just to the South of Bléré, now makes Tours and chateaux
such as Villandry and Azay-le-Rideau + quite a few more on that far side of
the city, very easy to visit.
It was useful to have Dominique's restaurant recommendations and we enjoyed
the somewhat upmarket La Boulaye a few miles away (a somewhat complicated
menu and they only do set meals, but these are very good and not overpriced
- when we were there it wasn't open Mondays and Tuesdays - see their
entertaining website http://laboulaye.fr/ ). Also liked the simple but
very pleasant La Sarrazin créperie, just round the corner from the cottage
. The nearby Logis menu, in the same price bracket as La Boulaye, looks
interesting and Dominique said that it is good, but we didn't actually go
there. We did however buy some award winning wines from the local cave -
Domaine de la Grange.
I'm something of a railway enthusiast, but wasn't anticipating any preserved
railways around here. After a few days and beginning to feel withdrawal
symptoms, I noticed in the Michelin Green Guide of the Area, that there are
actually 7 Chemins de Fer Touristique in the Loire region, though at least a
couple - Sarthe and Pithiviers are some distance away. We also picked up a
leaflet from the Bléré tourist office about another line, the 'Du Bas
Berry', not mentioned in the green guide. It turned out to be a delightful
rural line, about 50mins away by car, based at Ecueille. We missed the last
steam train of the year, due to taking a wrong turning, but managed to see
the train at the other end and on its return. This railway is one of the
few examples left, of what was once a large network of metre gauge narrow
gauge lines all over France (and indeed there were similar networks over
much of Europe).

We recently stayed in this charming home in Blere for 4 nights. We enjoyed our stay and the home was very well stocked with everything we could need and very clean. Dominique was very accomodating and even picked us up in Tours after we had to return our car early. It was a great location for visiting the chateaus and the beautiful towns of the Loire. We would definitely recommend this house to friends and family.
We very much enjoyed our stay at the Chevalerie. We found that the property matched the listing description. It was clean, well-maintained and spacious for our family of four (two adults and two children, aged 12 and 10). We found it to be very quiet -- we didn't hear any road noise. We were able to use one of the two parking spaces adjacent to the property that the hosts reserve for their guests.
The kitchen is small and is minimally equipped (I'd recommend bringing a sharp knife or two from home if you plan to cook), but we knew from the listing what to expect. We weren't planning to prepare meals from scratch during our visit, and the kitchen was fine for reheating foods from the wonderful boucherie one block over. It met our needs for our stay. Everything was in good working order.
The bedrooms were cheerfully decorated and spacious, and the beds were comfortable.
One evening we went for a lovely stroll along the river, which is just a 5-minute walk from the property. We watched some fly fishermen fishing in the river and saw a number of families enjoying a riverside playground.
The property made an excellent home base for our excursions to several of the chateaux in the region. When we were visiting in May, we felt like we were the only tourists staying in Bléré (unlike the chateaux, which were packed with visitors like us). We loved being able to walk down the street to the boulangerie for our morning baguettes and to the boucherie. By the end of our four-day stay, I was starting to feel almost like a local at the shops (aside from my terrible French accent, of course!). Staying at the Chevalerie gave us a nice taste of small-town life in France.
We would definitely recommend this property to anyone looking for a comfortable, quiet home base from which to explore the Loire Valley.
This property is in an excellent position to visit the many Chateaux and wineries in this area. The cottage is very comfortable for two couples with two bathrooms and very spacious bedrooms with comfortable beds. The stairs could be a problem for less able people. The courtyard is a delight on warm evenings. To be able to walk to the village in two minutes for banking, fresh bread and meals is perfect. Car parking is available off street. The owner is next door and very helpful welcoming us with a bottle of local wine. We had a most enjoyable comfortable stay.
My husband and I (60's) and our son and daughter-in-law (30's) appreciated having 2 bathrooms. The property was very well maintained and as advertised. The owner was very helpful with recommendations for meals and shopping and we loved being greeted with a jar of apricot jam. We spent a week with the village as home base and with excursions to see the chateaux each day. We walked out to one of the excellent boulangers each morning, found a pleasant small restaurant for dinner and an outstanding boucherie for picnic supplies. There is a lovely path along the Cher for evening walks. I would definitely return and spend more time just enjoying the property!
Great location to explore the Loire valley, very comfortable and spacious house, everything you need! Lovely terrace to sit out and enjoy a Loire wine. Great little village with everything you need. Very peaceful.. We really enjoyed our week in the carriage house. Defiantly recommended!
My wife and I had a very enjoyable stay in the cottage. The house is as described and Blere is a very good base for exploring the medieval towns and chateau in the surrounding areas. It has excellent food shops and Dominique was an excellent host, giving suggestions on touring and eating.
On request:airplane flights over the famous chateaux.Possible to organize hot air ballons flights
Dominique can help you for your visits as she really knows the area. She can also tell about restaurants and wine tasting
