This secluded cottage is located directly on the Withlacoochee River, designated an 'Outstanding Florida Waterway'. Our newly renovated cottage features a large well stocked kitchen, dining and living areas with cathedral ceiling, and two cozy bedrooms. The screened porch is just feet from the river complete with palm trees and old cypress.
A nature lovers paradise where you can view manatees, otters, turtles, many varieties of birds, and an occasional alligator or dolphin. Bring your boat and cruise down the scenic river to the Gulf of Mexico. There is plenty of room to park your trailer or RV. Swim in the river or adjacent lagoon where you might encounter a napping manatee, or use our kayaks or canoe to paddle back to 'Old Florida'. Fish from the private dock or during season, harvest scallops in near by Crystal River
The perfect place to get away from it all, but close enough to enjoy a day trip to Tampa Bay, or several Florida attractions like Silver Springs, Homosassa Springs, or Weeki Wachee. Walking, bike, and equestrian trails are minutes away at the Cross Florida Greenway where you will also find a boat ramp to the Gulf of Mexico. Antique shops, golfing, and spas are located nearby. Beautiful Lake Rousseau is minutes away with some of the best bass fishing in the area. Watch mullet or tarpon jumping directly from the dock located at the cottage.
We purchased our riverfront property next door in 2005. We love the quiet and secluded setting and find it relaxing just watching the river flow by. We enjoy watching all the wildlife, kayaking, and boating on the river and the gulf. The lagoon separating the property is a favorite spot for manatee to rest and birds to fish. We purchased the cottage in 2009 so we could share this little piece of paradise with family and friends. We hope you enjoy all 'The Nature Coast' has to offer.
Freda Nichols purchased this cottage in 2009
We have been here several times now and love it even more each time we visit! We only left the property once for breakfast on Mother's Day at the Shrimp Diner in Inglis (excellent!) And a quick trip to the local IGA grocery. They are both 5 minutes away! We fished for gar and bowfin and caught several! This place is AMAZING! Can't wait to come back this summer!! Thanks Jim and Freda!
My wife and I had the best time at this Hideaway Cabin. The cabin was clean, well furnished and had a "killer" view from the dock. We enjoyed seeing Manatee's, Otters and fantastic birds. Whether your drinking coffee in the morning on the dock or having cocktails on the dock in the evenings the views never get old. Fredda and Jim were wonderful hosts. They live next door (not too close though) which was very nice and enjoyable to have them so close by to answer questions and share ideas with.
Our January, 2016 stay at the Hideway was exceptional!
The cottage is very comfortable and complete. Outside the canoe/kayaks, dock and yard offer hours of natural enjoyment. The location makes easy access to Parks, Forests, Bicycle Paths and Springs.
No Complaints. Highly Recommended!!!
A little late getting our review in, but my, what a place! Jim & Freda are wonderful, thoughtful hosts and the "Hideaway" is just perfect! So enjoyed the wildlife and just relaxing on the dock with a book. Was a little cooler than normal in February so did not take advantage of water activities. Very centrally located so we were able to travel short distances almost everyday to see something new and different. Very relaxing and that's what my husband and I were looking for.
Our second stay at the Hide Away - just as comfortable, relaxing, and enjoyable as the first. We so enjoy this special place ... So clean, charming, and artfully decorated ... So open, bright and comfortable ... everything one needs is right at hand. The graciousness of hosts, Freda and Jim, tip the rating of the Hide Away to well over 5 stars! The cottage - nestled in the shade of oaks, cypress and palms - is a wonderful place to escape the hustle and bustle, noise and traffic, lights and glare of urban areas. Just feet away is the tannen dark river framed with trees, and home to many jumping fish, otters, turtles, manatee in season, and dolphins as they will. The river affords a flyway for numerous birds. The canoe and kayaks give one chance to explore this quiet waterway. The dock right over the river is the perfect vantage point for wild life viewing or fishing (poles provided). The porch is a lovely open air dining or reading room (good for napping, too). Relax under the trees in the chaise lounges; enjoy an evening fire in the in the chiminea, (wood provided) and watch for owls. There are many things of interest a short drive from the cottage. Inglis is a small town, but offers all you really need. We liked Mama Sally's fish fry dinner with free dessert, and Shrimp Landing's fried green tomatoes.
...In all of our travels, the Hide Away is our favorite place to stay! That is definitely why we returned again this year!
thanks again jim and Freda for a wonderful time at the cottage. we had fun watching the otters and manatees playing in the river. the weather was perfect and so was our stay. will be contacting you for another week early 2015!
