General Description: A warm, comfortable, healthy GREEN home utilizing solar power but grid intertied with 270 degree vistas of mountain ranges, sitting above the trout-rich Madison River, in a ranch setting 42 miles from Yellowstone National Park (30 miles from Ennis) and with private access to 3 ½ miles of fishing on the Madison River.
The house has 4 bedrooms & 3 baths..
The kitchen contains top-of-the-line equipment including double Miele ovens with Magic Chef programming, a DCS gas cook-top, a silent Bosch dishwasher, a large refrigerator with freezer compartment, and a good size pantry. There is an outdoor Weber gas grill.
The house has a steam bath as well as a Jacuzzi bath.
The entertainment system includes a Blue Ray DVD player, a CD player, stereo speakers in several rooms, DISH large screen TV, and internet programming all operated by a single remote control. There is wireless internet access throughout the house with a broadband internet connection; fax machine/copier/scanner are provided.
The 3500 sq. ft. house was built during 2007-09 using renewable resources. It features thick adobe-style walls which, together with a highly insulated roof, keep the house at a constant comfortable temperature for a good part of the year. The house is designed to admit the winter sun and protect against the summer sun. Each room in the house features an interlocking, artistic interplay between wood and plaster. The plaster is a green product with a low carbon footprint (it absorbs CO2 from the atmosphere) and has high vapor exchange properties which tends to preclude water condensation. Straw bales are the insulation between the exterior and interior plaster.
There is a large outdoor porch sitting area with comfortable rocking chairs; a number of small sitting patios tucked strategically around the outside of the house with marvelous views; an outdoor picnic area; plenty of open space to enjoy; and complete privacy.
The house sits adjacent to an elk migration route (fall and spring) on land that may be considered part of the greater Yellowstone eco-system. The house is situated on a 2,000 acre ranch subdivision which has 1600 acres in conservation for recreation. The ranch resources include 3 ½ miles of riverfront on the Madison River, 2 trout ponds, a tributary of the Madison (Horse Creek), wildlife, and 12 plus miles of private roads for jogging and walking..
West Yellowstone is 42 miles; Ennis is 30 miles; and Bozeman is 90 miles. There are airports at West Yellowstone and Bozeman. The elevation of the house is 6000 ft.
Area activities include river & lake fishing, river floating (a boat launch just downriver from the house), hiking, sightseeing/ exploring, biking, horseback riding, camping, cross country skiing, and an enormous area of BLM Land & the Beaverhead National Forest abut the southern end of the ranch.
Smoking is not permitted inside the house. Pets are not allowed.

About Larry Holden
Our family shares a love of the out-of-doors - fishing, boating, hiking, biking, camping, and wildlife viewing. There are resources on the ranch where our grandchildren can fish in small trout ponds while the adults wade the Madison. We love to boat the Madison which is basically a 50 mile riffle in our area. There is a launch site just downriver from us. Also, we love seeing the elk migrate in large numbers right through our yard in the Fall and Spring. In the winter we cross-country ski on trails at the ranch or in the park at W. Yellowstone and then downhill ski either at Big Sky or Grand Targhee. We also go on field trips to Yellowstone National Park which is a great outdoor learning lab for all of us. Cross-country skiing in the Park is a favorite winter activity while biking in the Park in the Spring to see the animals calving is also very special.
Larry Holden purchased this House in 2008
Why Larry Holden chose Cameron
We love southwestern Montana and the proximity of the property to Yellowstone National Park. We also enjoy having the resources of a 2000 acre ranch situated on the Madison River.
What makes this House unique

From the moment you drive up you know that you have found something special. The design and the details were remarkable and the setting couldn’t be more perfect. We had two full families staying and were very comfortable. This Home and our stay there will always be very special to us!
Beautiful ranch style remote home
Very nice home but in a remote area .Be prepared to stop in Ennis and do grocery shopping for a few days since it's 30 miles away from the home .We never saw any animals on the property and the Madison River is not as close to the home as the pictures dictate .Lovely quiet days and peaceful nights surround this ranch and about 45 minutes to West Yellowstone.
The house is up on a bench overlooking the Madison River Valley. As you can see from the pictures, the trade-off is spectacular views. You are a few minutes drive down to the river on private roads or a 10-15 minute walk down the hill. The third photo probably provides the best perspective on the distance to the river.
We do recommend you stock up on supplies before arrival: either in Bozeman, Ennis or W. Yellowstone. Nearby restaurants are the Grizzly about 10 minutes away & the Camp Fire Lodge Restaurant, a great place for breakfast toward W. Yellowstone, particularly if you are going to fish the upper Madison near Hebgen dam. Spring & fall are peak elk migration season.
We stayed for 1 week at the end of June. The weather was beautiful everyday. The views from every window in the house was amazing! The house itself was had everything you could ask for . We cook inside and grilled outside almost everyday. The furnishings very cozy, the beds very comfortable. The home is so unique and absolutely gorgeous!!
Larry, the owner was so kind and very helpful also he's a wealth of information.
We visited Yellowstone twice an absolute must! So breathtaking! My husband and boys fished the Madison, which was about a mile from the house and we whitewater rafted the Gallatin River which was a blast!! There is so much to do and see, you definitely need more than 1 week!!
Private location with breathtaking views
This was by far our best family vacation! The home was gorgeous, cozy and had an amazing view all around. We used this home away from home to visit Yellowstone National Park (45 minute scenic drive) as well as fly fish on the Madison and White Water raft in Gallatin. We used Trout Stalkers for our guided fish, and highly recommend Tim as a guide. He has been guiding for 24 years and was very patient with the novice fisherman. It was conveniently located for everything we were interested in doing. During our stay the animals we saw just around the house included: badgers, foxes, deer, pronghorn, sheep and a coyote (chased off by the livestock guard dog). It was a great experience and we would love to come back!
Breathe Taking Getaway
What an amazing space to spend time with your family and enjoy nature. Our family loved every minute of this gorgeous house and it had something for every age. From fishing in the ponds for the little ones to jogging in the trails to relaxing and watching the sunset over the majestic mountains. The layout is very spacious and each room has gorgeous views but feels very private as well. The owner Larry is extremely helpful and responsive and the kitchen was stocked with pots, pans, and all the tools you could need to cook or BBQ. I hope we can return one day and spend at least another week if not longer enjoying this special place.
Exceeded my expectations!
The VRBO photographs, while captivating, don't begin to capture the true nature of this Montana property. We were lucky enough to stay a month, and we never grew tired of the ever-changing vista to be had out of any window. Luxury blended with the rustic could be found in the smallest details. The house felt like a home immediately. Add in the wealth of wildlife, the blue ribbon fishing, and what you end up with is one of the most perfect spots on earth. The hosts couldn't have been nicer, as were the people at the ranch. Worth every penny--thanks Larry.
