Very lovely home.
It was a very lovely home with a quiet setting. Would definitely visit again.
A place to get away from it all!
Deal Island is a very quiet area of MD Eastern shore, far from crowds, restaurants and nightlife! We expected that but we were disappointed in the maintainence of this lovely home. There is a nice deck & yard for sunning but the flies are so abundant that eating outside was impossible! The screened in Gazebo has 2 chairs & stinky hot-tub! Much of the screens need repair. Margaret was very nice and was helpful with whatever we needed! The home has great TV/ movie service. The crabbing was fun and we got 8-9 crabs every day but the small pier dock was scary because it was wobbly and not safe! It is a great area for walking/ biking. Only 1 bike was usable. The kitchen/dining area were nice but in need of repair as the ice maker did not work, the ceramic stovetop is cracked. We did have all the utensils/spices we needed as the owner lives there when not rented. The washer/dryer are not in home but Margaret graciously washed our clothes midweek as we had expected them to be available. The small beach is now privately owned & fenced in by neighbor across street so we went to Public beach on Deal island which is very nice. The water in the house is unpalatable & smells so bring bottled water to drink! The home is nicely decorated and pretty but it was dusty and dog hair was on couch. We enjoyed a wonderful Friday nite crab feast at Paradise Grill at Lucky's Last Chance which was so delicious that we would go back if we are in the area again! Lucky's also has good food like Pizza, sandwiches and other home cooked dinners daily. Arby's was being taken over by new owner for restaurant so we can only hope it gets better as that is it for Wenona/Deal Island area. Little boat access/rentals available in the area. Beautiful area to recharge & connect with loved ones! Hopefully Margaret will maintain this property to a higher standard to achieve a higher review!
The pier has been repaired and is solid and safe. The damage to the pier had just happened and the repair was scheduled and has now happened. Chance is in the marshes on the bay and we have periods of flies and other flying insects. None of whom I can control. They come with the natural environment. Our water is well water and is safe but most people who visit want to drink bottled water. It also makes the jacuzzi look yellow but it is safe new water. The ice maker does work and now that I know one of the bikes had a flat, that will be fixed.
A Little Piece of Paradise
We were looking for a quiet, secluded place to get away from the city hustle and bustle, this is the place for that! Jeff and Margaret are the best hosts that anyone could ask for. They will make sure you have a wonderful time there. Even my dog had a great time and met new doggy friends. The weather this time of year was great and the crabbing was terrific, And they were all the legal size. We drop lined and used box traps at 1st, then Jeff gave us the crab pots. I then hit the mother load daily racking in about 15 to 18 a day! The sunsets from the beach, that was a short walk from the house, was fabulous. We did some sightseeing and drove to Ocean City, which was a quick hour away. We went to Lucky's Last Chance and had a delicious buffet dinner that included BBQ and crabs which were homemade by the owners. Yuuum.... I must admit that this is a vacation that my wife and I will remember and miss! Jeff and Margaret, until we meet again. Thank you for a wonderful memory. PS... I wanted to include pictures. See you next year for the Skip Jack Races.
Peaceful, relaxing, and fun!
Spent a week at this house. It was perfect for the four of us. We grocery shopped on our way to checking in at the house. If we forgot anything, we were able to find it in the cupboards. Everything was there that we could possibly need. The house was nice and comfortable, and made us feel right at home. When we arrived Jeff met us, showed us around, and told us if we needed anything to just ask. He and his wife Margaret live next door. We took walks to the little beach that was close by. The women did some surf fishing there, too. The guys were pretty much in charge of crabbing. They were able to do that at the owner's dock and along the shoreline a short distance from the dock. We had our own boat to use, so we did some fishing and crabbing out on the open water, too. We took walks around the community. Very beautiful and peaceful area. Very little traffic. People we did happen to cross paths with were very friendly. We enjoyed the hot tub, spent every evening out on the deck. Morning coffee was taken on the deck and then a morning walk. Saw beautiful sunrises and sunsets. We all think about this place often. We will definitely return here for more fun in the sun! Jeff and Margaret, we will see you again! Thank you so much for sharing your home. Thanks from Guy, Elaine, Fred, and Penny.
Oasis surrounded by beaches, peace & quiet...
Spent a week enjoying warm hospitality and fresh crab right off the boat! The house is perfect, clean, charming with a creative flair, excellent kitchen to cook in, outdoor dining area and room for the dogs to run about. Very comfortable, wanted for nothing.
Walk around the neighborhood and find secret beach walks, hunt for shells or drift wood. 'Big' beach is .5 miles from the house and it's perfect for families. Shallow water, no major current, lots of shells and sun.
Interesting architecture and local lore. Lucky's is a must!
Sad to leave but grateful for the memories and rest. Looking forward to another visit next year.
Big thanks to M & J!
This house is a gem! My husband, myself and our two dogs stayed for a week and I have never felt more relaxed after a vacation. It's an extremely quiet area with lots of water opportunities. The peninsula this house sits on, has a couple of small beaches and our dogs swam every day, much to their and our delight. The large fenced in yard really set our minds at ease too. It was great to watch sunsets or sunbath with our dogs romping around the yard without a care in the world. We also loved the screened in hot tub. We used it more as a cold tub/ mini pool because it was hot during the afternoons, and at night the screen kept the mosquitoes away.
The property owners, Margaret and Jeff were great to get to know as well. We were a little nervous when we found out they lived next door, but once we met them, we couldn't have been more relieved. They are laid back, salt of the earth people and made us feel extremely welcome.
Margaret owns a convenience store/bar called Lucky's which is right down the road. On Sat. nights they have karaoke and crabs and this was one of the highlights of the week. The locals where very friendly and a riot to watch as they karaoked with no inhibitions and the crabs were delicious and cheap too. We loved it!
Jeff is an experienced captain with several boats. He is also happy to take you out on the bay in one of his sailboats. Both Margaret and Jeff are artists so the house is full of art made from driftwood. Extremely unique pieces! They sell them at Lucky's and other local galleries. We picked up a great piece for very little money and it is already on our wall reminding us everyday of the great week we had in Chance.
As you can see, I can't say enough good things about this rental. We can't wait to go back again!
Would you really like to get away from it all? Well, here's the place. Watch soaring eagles and blue herons. Take beach and marsh walks. Crab and fish from your own property. Take a bike ride or canoe trip. Watch sunsets everyday and hobnob with the locals at Lucky's restaurant, 'Paradise Grille'. Also available are sunset sailboat rides, canoe trips with the local self taught historian and artifact expert. Learn how soft shell crabs are harvested and go out with a working crab boat and see how crabs are caught and feed the pelicans.
Other Activities: crabbing, beach glass, metal detecting rent a daysailor, or charter a day sail. Instruction available by Capt Jeff.. Borrow a canoe for a paddle in the marshes.
Golf: Google; Great Hope Golf Course. approx 25 min drive..
