Perfect Get Away....

  • 5 of 5

Cranberry Lake is the best lake around in my book. Nature at its best. The house was very clean and just as promised. Kitchen was well stocked and we never had to use any of the cooking supplies we brought everything was there. Washer and Dryer made it great with the kids and boating towels etc. Dock was easy to get too and in a cove away from boating traffic. Dock was a little small for our 24ft boat but after cross ties it was just fine but would be perfect for smaller than that boat. Having Direct TV and board games were nice for the kids in the evenings also firepit and grill for cooking out. The deck was big and surrounded by wild flowers making the lake an even better view! Kids loved the wilderness and this was a GREAT family vacation for us. We will always use this house for our trips to Cranberry Lake in the future. Jackie was very great to deal with and even called to check in on us. I would highly recommend this house great deal for the money!!!

Great Home Away From Home

  • 5 of 5

It's a;ways chancy booking a place unseen, but the photos and description were accurate, the camp was both clean and well-equipped, and it took no time at all for my sister and I to enjoy the ADK wilderness with all the comforts of home and without the hassle of being constantly connected by cell phone or internet to the world beyond. We enjoyed the wildflowers, the beautiful misty sunrises, and the critters surrounding us. Regulars were the red and gray squirrels, chipmunks, red-breasted nuthatches, chickadees, yellow-rumped warblers, red-eyed vireo and even a Blackburnian warbler in the mix. Matilda Bay is a calm little cove away from major boating traffic, so we also enjoyed the great blue heron, loon and its adolescent offspring, a whole flotilla of mergansers, young mallards, osprey and eagle. We were easy drives to good kayaking waters, including Tooley Pond and outlet, and various parts of the Oswegatchie and Grasse Rivers, and just a few minutes drive to the other side of Cranberry Lake to hike Bear Mountain. Jackie was great to work with, called to check on us the first day, and returned the security deposit very quickly. You can tell by the camp that it is truly a "home" and cared for. Thank you, Jackie, for sharing it with us. I've already recommended it to at least 3 other people, and when I return again to the area, this will be my first choice for accommodations.

Great Base Camp

  • 4 of 5

This camp is perfect for a base camp on Cranberry Lake. It was true to its description online and Jackie was the perfect hostess. Very organized and accomodating. The camp was well supplied and clean. As most camps that were built in the day are, it sits VERY close to other camps but those owners were only there on the weekend. For those with pets, they are not allowed. The dock was large and it is deep enough to dive off the end of the dock for swimming. If you have children who don't swim well, just make them wear their life vests when on the dock as there is no shallow beach-like area for them. We motored over to the Cranberry Lake Campground beach for sand play. The fishing was not bad. Fish in dusk or dawn for small mouth bass action. The kids caught plenty of rock bass off the dock. My father caught an 18 1/2 inch small mouth on the day before we left so his trip was complete (and we were able to have one fresh fish meal). My husband, I and my daughter motored over to the wild end of the lake for hiking trips and even packed in to a pond for a little brook trout fishing (no luck there). There is also single track mountain biking on the portion of the Cranberry 50 trail (Burntbridge Pond Trail) that you can access on route 3, 2 miles east of Cranberry Lake hamlet. The first few miles is quite easy, then it gets quite technical once you get near the Dog Pond section. If you want to rent a boat just ask for Bryan at Cranberry Lake Lodge Marina (where you can fill up your boat's gas tank too- and your stomach if you want a meal or a drink on their patio with a great view of the lake. The Stone Manor Restaurant is good- especially their Reubens and Perry's Ice Cream. One rainy day we side tripped to Saranac Lake for a little browsing and lunch at the Blue Moon Cafe which has excellent food, coffee and service. The best part is there is no cell service- so I had a true vacation. There is a land line that you can use for long distance if you need.

I would recommend this camp.

This home was CLEAN! It is exactly as picured and described. The owner called right away to answer my inquiries and checked to make sure everything was OK when we arrived. She was very accomodating and pleasant. We came to Cranberry Lake after the summer season looking for peace and quiet and we found it. If you want to enjoy the lake, sunrises on the deck and just relax, this place is for you! We will be back becuase we enjoyed it so much.
