Located just 10 km from Verona, in the enchanting green hills of the Marcellise Valley, Villa Sogara is a stunning historical mansion filled with treasures, built during the 15th-18th centuries upon Roman ruins. The owners have completely restored and remodeled the Villa, which contains 6 bedrooms, 4 bathrooms, a fully appointed kitchen, dining room, library, music room, various living rooms and outdoor relaxation areas.

A new swimming pool with a terraced sunbathing patio is surrounded by picturesque vineyards. Daily cleaning service, Wi-Fi internet access, air conditioning, dishwasher and washing machine are included. This stellar location is ideal for exploring Veneto and the surrounding area, for attending the many international fairs held in Verona or just for avoiding the chaos of modern life.

Veneto is a region full of history and tradition, great also for local food and wine production. Many interesting sites to be visited are Venice, Vicenza, Padova, and Lake Garda. You will find countryside, mountains and seaside, lakes and sea beaches.

Verona is one of the main tourist destinations in north-eastern Italy, thanks to its artistic heritage, several annual fairs (Vinitaly, Fieracavalli, Marmomacc and many others), shows and operas, such as the Opera Festival in the Arena, the ancient amphitheatre built by the Romans.

Because of the value and importance of its many historical buildings, mostly of Roman and Medieval ages, Verona has been named a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Moreover, Verona is the setting of Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet.

Verona's Natural history museum contains one of the most valuable collections of fossils and archaeological remains of Europe. Castelvecchio Museum features a collection of sculptures, statues and paintings in a magnificent castle built in 1354-1356.

About Tommaso Peruzzi

This villa was bought by my great-grandparents in 1929. Now it's my duty to preserve it in good shape and to share it with those who appreciate this kind of mansion and look for the charm and tranquility of the Italian countryside. I had great days staying here with my grandfather when I was a child, and I hope that you will be able to have such a good time too.

Tommaso Peruzzi purchased this villa in 1929

Why Tommaso Peruzzi chose Verona - Lake Garda

The villa is located in the countryside in the eastern part of Verona. While the property is surrounded by vineyards of Valpolicella wine DOC production area, it has also easy connections to the motorway, to the airport, and to the cities of Verona, Venice, Padua, Mantua, and Vicenza. Lake Garda is also easily reachable in about 30 minutes, and with the new high speed railway lines also Florence and Milan are an easy destination for a daily trip. Guests come here to spend a vacation in a true piece of history, and also for many activities like food and wine tours, art history, museums, Opera, and so on.

What makes this villa unique

Are you tired of hotels that look pretty much all the same? Have you had enough of cold, impersonal courtesy? Do you appreciate historic houses furnished with original antiques? Are you in search of a 'home away from home' to spend time and relax with your family and friends, surrounded by lush countryside? Villa Sogara is the place to be!

Guestbook comments from the owner

“Fabulous---a "once-in-a-lifetime" experience that I would love to repeat every year!!”

Villa Sogara is a beautiful and unique property, a bit outside of the city, but that was just fine with us. Nestled among vineyards, olive trees and winding roads, it was a charming escape into the daily life of the Veneto. Tommaso and Ela are the most charming and down-to-earth inn-keepers/new friends one could ask for, and the view they offered into the villa's and their family's history in the area surpasses anything that could be gained from a history book. Combine Renaissance beauty and elegance with country home comfort and up-to-the minute, modern amenities and conveniences---and you have the ingredients for a perfect home-away-from-home. And then there are the cuckoos that call softly from the treetops all day long.....already plotting my return!

Delightful!

  • 5 of 5

There were 7 of us, 4 adults and 3 children. We have all travelled a lot and rented many luxury villas but we all agreed that this was the best holiday we've had and the villa contributed greatly to our wonderful experience. The location was perfect for us because it enabled us to visit Lake Garda in about half an hour, Venice in an hour (very easy trip), Padova and of course Verona itself. The villa surroundings are tranquil and idyllic yet easy to get on to the motorway. The large supermarket is about 2km away. Kitchen very well equipped. The beds are very comfy and large and made daily, we all slept very well. We will definitely be returning in the summer months to make use of the pool. Thank you Tomasso and Ella

Absolutely beautiful

  • 5 of 5

We (myself, my wife and our two teenaged daughters) spent a week at Villa Sogara in September. We had stayed there previously in 2010 and absolutely loved it. This time around, we enjoyed it even more. As the kids were older this time, we were better able to sample the local restaurants and countryside. The villa is stunning. Tomasso and Ella are amazing hosts, and their local advice (and restaurant tips) were incredibly helpful. We will be back!

AMAZING VILLA AND WONDERFUL HOSTS JULY 1 - 7, 2012

  • 5 of 5

I must apologize as I am writing this review in July 2015. I had written almost a book about your amazing villa when we returned to Canada in July 2012 and had saved it to show my husband before sending it not realizing that it would disappear. I was so upset that I put off writing my review and I now wish to do so.

We stayed at your beautiful Villa Sogara for one week with our good friends Greig and Teresa from July 1 – 7, 2012. We arrived late as we were lost and you welcomed us so warmly and gave us restaurant suggestions for the area once we had settled into the “Castello”.

It really felt like being in a castle as the villa has so much grandeur and so many rooms filled with lovely antiques and art and yet it manages to be cosy and to feel like a home. We enjoyed making meals in the typical Italian kitchen and exploring all the rooms, having numerous conversations with you about your amazing family history and discussing and drinking wine, sharing meals. We miss it to this day.

We appreciated all your suggestions for restaurants and areas to visit in the vicinity, the wine and olive oil tastings and the feeling that we were not just guests, we were family.

You were expecting your first child when we were there and you were both so excited. Thank your for sharing the photos of your beautiful daughter Sofia with us when you send your annual Christmas email. She is absolutely lovely and you must so enjoy having this little girl to brighten your days at the Villa.

Both our daughters are married now and we would love to return to Villa Sogara with them and their families someday. It would be the perfect place for all of us to have a family holiday and we cannot wait for that day to come.

Grazie mille to both of you for sharing your magical villa with us!

What can I say. This has been one of my favourite places to stay. Accommodation is amazing, it's absolutely massive. 8 adults and 8 children stayed in our group and there was more than enough room. The owners Tommaso and his wife are so lovely. They are pleased to answer any questions and help with your stay in any way. We will definitely be coming back. Beautiful place and we were all very impressed. Thanks again to Tommaso and Ella.

quiet and peacefully but near to attractions

  • 5 of 5

We recently had the opportunity to once again vacation at the splendid Villa Sogara located among the hillside vineyards just east of Verona.  Welcomed back as if we were family by Tomasso and Ela, eight of us spent the week absorbed in Italian culture both in their spacious villa and on outings that our hosts not only arranged but accompanied us. We never would have discovered some of the treasures of the area without their guidance. Language problems were not an issue with fluently bilingual hosts to accompany us on the outings to wineries and even a pasta ‘factory’.  The full use of the kitchen made for relaxing meals in the dining room.  We loved the interactive cooking class provided by Ela, where we were taught to make many unique and delicious creations followed by a meal together.

While Villa Sogara is located on a secluded private estate, it is very central to many of the local ‘must see’ attractions.  We enjoyed quick easy drives to spend the day in Verona, beautiful Lake Garda and the spectacular waterside towns, as well as other historical sites.  The drive along the lake was one of the most picturesque routes that we have ever experienced in many years of travelling in Europe.

If you are a group planning a trip to Italy, we highly recommend that you consider Villa Sogara. It will provide an experience to which you will undoubtedly want to return again and again.

The Only Way to Experience Italy

  • 5 of 5

Villa Sogara has many things. It has breathtaking beauty (the pictures online do not do it justice). It has a fascinating history. It has wonderful hosts (warm, entertaining and informative hosts). And it has the usual things you would expect from a pool to an elevator, to a huge kitchen and several great spots to have a meal with lots of people.

Our only complaint is that we were not able to share it with more people. Our party was a family of four and we only used a small bit of the villa. We had hoped to share our time with some nearby relatives, but our plans did not materialize.

You will need a car as there is little that you can get to by walking - but you will spend a day or two doing nothing but lazing by the pool and exploring all the rooms and antiques.

Day trips to Verona and Lake Garda are all easily accomplished. Sirmione is a must - as is going for a swim in the lake and renting a boat to see some of the sights from the water. There are plenty of places to rent a boat and the rental transaction takes about 30 seconds - hand over some Euros and your license and hop on the boat. No paperwork! Malcesine is also worth the drive - it takes an hour or so, but the drive through the mountains and through small towns is unforgettable.

Tommaso and Ela live in the apartment next door. They are available for anything you need and are a phenomenal resource. If you want privacy, they disappear. But when you come and go through the big iron gate, they will check in to see how things are going. You will soon find that you look forward to seeing them and want to share time with them and learn more about their family history, the villa and the surrounding area. Tommaso and Ela also prepared one of the best meals of our trip - we dined outdoors next to 2000 year old columns and enjoyed a 5 course gourmet meal. Tommaso's 12 year old niece joined us and helped take care of the couple's baby daughter, Sofia. It was an experience we will not soon forget. If you like dogs, they'll let Stella run around with you a bit, too. That made my daughters happy. If you don't like dogs, Stella will be no where to be seen...

Tommaso is an email fanatic - he and I corresponded quite a bit before our arrival. If you have questions, he has answers. And if he has a recommendation for a particular restaurant, take his recommendation!

We have rented many homes, but Villa Sogara certainly stands out as one or our luckiest finds!
