Sovinjak is located on a hill above the Mirna valley.
You reach the village from the street Motovun-Buzet via a small bridge over the Mirna. Once at the top, you have a breathtaking 360 ° view.
In the village is the parish church of Sts. George from 1927, which was built on the site of an earlier one from 1556. Next to it is the 15 meter high bell tower from 1557, with a Glagolitic inscription.
Furthermore, the gothic church of Sts. Rochus with frescoes from the 15th Century.
The appearance of Sovinjaks dates back to the time of the ancient Romans. Here was the Roman castrum "Castellum Pucinum". The famous wine Pucinum, which originates from this area, was even served at the Roman imperial court. According to a legend, the woman Livia Drusilla, the wife of Emperor Augustus and the mother of Emperor Tiberius exclusively drank this wine. That should have been a reason for your longevity.
The wine variety Pucinum you will search in vain today, but there are other top wines.
In addition to top wines, the immediate surroundings are known for olive oil, white truffles and gourmet restaurants. The landscape between Buzet and Motovun is the "home" of the white truffle.
