Super vacation property!

  • 5 of 5

Patrizia has an outstanding property in an excellent location for a vacation in Rome. It is roomy and well maintained with easy access to any of the many sites you want to see in Rome. The area around the flat has more places to eat than you can try in a week. There are several quick shops and a larger grocery store within easy walking distance as well as shops for adult beverages.

What makes this property stand out is the extras that Patrizia provides without additional cost. She arranged for our tickets to the Vatican museum and the Coliseum which were emailed to us in the USA. We were able to pay her though paypal for these after receiving them. She arranged for our driver who picked us up at the cruise ship terminal in Civitavecchia and took us to the flat where she was waiting to show us around. She also arranged for her friend, who is a licensed guide, to provide three hour tours of both the Vatican museum and Coliseum for what I thought was very fair price. Finally the driver arrived on time to whisk us to the airport for our flight home. She recommended the hop on hop off bus and it was a super way for a quick look around the city.

The property has an interesting elevator but you will need to carry you suitcase up a few steps unless you have a great driver like us. You do hear a bit of traffic at night but it didn't keep us from sleeping. Remember you electric adapters and debit card for the ATM.(guess who did)

I don't think you can find a better Home Away property in Rome!!!

A very well outfitted apartment close to the Vatican, Metro and buses. Fantastic hostess

The owner of Dolce Vita is a charming Italian who was extremely helpful.

The Dolce Vita apartment is ideal for those who plan to stay in Rome for an extended period.

It is in a very old part of Rome, just a couple of blocks from the wall of the Vatican, and close to the Vatican museum. Based on the look of other buildings, it is likely traditional in outlay and size for a Rome apartment. But it is very well decorated and appointed, and immaculate. The windows are double glazed which greatly reduces street noise (which starts around 5am when the nearby busy, huge, covered market, starts coming to life). The market (Mercado) is open Monday to Saturday. Right across the road is a small supermarket that carries essentials, not a great variety, but low prices - esp for bottled water. (And they carry brioche / pane latte)

The apt has 2 large bedrooms and 3 bathrooms (all with bidets, which, whether you use a bidet or not, are great to wash your feet, because Rome is a dusty place.)

There were 3 heat pumps, so, though we did not use them much because it was spring, this insures comfort. There were loads of extra blankets and pillows.

The kitchen is small, but adequate for a holiday. It has all the necessities. We did learn that the European plug holes and prongs are 2 different sizes. If you want to plug in the toaster, use the microwave socket.

The living area is relatively small - but was fine for the 2 of us. It would probably be fine for 4, but crowded for any more.

There is a tiny, but very efficient, (though each wash takes a long time) washing machine on the tiny patio off the kitchen. The drum goes in the opposite direction and has to be locked closed. It's pretty obvious how to click it together. A tip we learned after black clothes had white flecks. Rome, like Paris has a lot of calcium in the water. Put one small teaspoon of WHITE vinegar in with the laundry detergent. I don't know how this magically works, but it eliminates the calcium precipitating on clothes.

One other tip, as you oggle those gorgeous 3 inch high Italian shoes - bring practical comfortable flattish shoes. The cobblestones are very hard on feet and legs, and the Metro and buses rarely stop right at places where you want to go. There are a gazillion steps everywhere. Its very hard going for the mobility impaired or those with babies in prams.

It might be famous for fashion and shoes, but most Romans dress practically, including shoe-wise

Enjoy your holiday.

Loved our stay in Rome.

  • 5 of 5

Great property, close to the Vatican and all other sites. Patrizia was very accommodating. We arrived quite early and she had the home prepared for us much, much earlier than the check in time. Our family of four was very comfortable in this home. Will recommend and stay here again!

Thanks Patrizia!
