Danira & Oriano
Heraki (the village where the villa is located) is the ideal starting point to explore Istria; not far from here is Sv. Lovrec, a small town with bakery, shops, pharmacy, cafe and pizzeria. The famous tourist center of Poreč is only 15 km away: the town has been awarded several times, thanks to its beauty and cleanliness.
We also advise you to visit the 3 towers of Poreč (north tower, south tower and pentagonal tower).
From Poreč you can take many interesting day trips: for example, Venice can be reached in just 2 hours by hydrofoil, or Pula with its Romanesque arena is only an hour's drive away. The gorge of Pazin and the Beredine Grotto are close by and well worth a visit.
Every day many boats depart from the port of Poreč for Venice, Rovinj or Lim Fjord.
You should also visit the many villages in the hinterland: Motovun (known for truffles), Groznjan, Momjan and Oprtalj offer beautiful landscapes. Those who love adventure can rent a bicycle and make unforgettable cycling tours throughout Istria thanks to a variety of bike paths. In Poreč and Rovinj you can find very nice beaches. It is also possible to rent a boat to fish or snorkel. About 2 hours drive away are the famous Plitvica Lakes: it is the largest national park in Croatia, world famous for its waterfalls and unique nature.
Istria is also the land of wine and there are many wine roads and vineyards that you can visit and discover. But not only wine, but also olives and olive oil: many olive groves are in the region and the production of so-called "liquid gold" is very widespread.
These excursions into the nature and surroundings will enchant you. Discover unique smells and aromas. In Istria there are many local restaurants and you will love the specialties: Istrian ham and cheese, soup with vegetables and meat, and many more tasty delicacies.
