Le Petit Soyc is an idyllic private escape from every day life, ideal for families or parties of up to ten. As the cottage is surrounded by fields and woodland, the large (10m x 5m) fenced, and optionally heated, pool and multiple terraces are very private and capture the sun day long. Inside, the 18th century stone cottage has been sympathetically converted and updated to create five bedrooms (3 double ensuite and 2 twins sharing a bathroom). The open-plan living area has comfortable leather sofas in two seating areas around the original fireplace, and a well equipped 49 sq m kitchen opening on to a large kitchen terrace overlooking the pool. Outside there is plenty of space for children to run around and the pool is fenced for child safety. Some games are provided, as well as Satellite TV/DVD for UK TV and Radio channels. A car is required due to the rural location.
Additional Information: Located amongst peaceful rolling hills, yet only 60 miles from Toulouse airport, or one days drive from the channel ports of Caen or St Malo. The historic cities of Cahors and Montauban are both within half an hours drive, with many smaller historic towns and bastides closer. For the mildly energetic, apart from the large (10m x 5m) secluded, illuminated and optionally heated swimming pool, Croquet, Table Tennis, and Boules sets are provided. Golf and Tennis are available nearby. For the less energetic, sunloungers, backgammon, playing cards and the barbecue will suffice, with shaded areas available outside as well as lots of sun terrace. UK Satellite TV/Radio provides a link to what is going on in the outside world and there is 3G mobile coverage for your phone.
Originally a very basic farm cottage, when purchased by my parents there was no running water, sewerage, electricity or heating other than a large fireplace and a well! The previous owners had moved out in in the 1970's. After extensive refurbishment in 1990, the cottage was re-born with 3 ensuite bedrooms and all modern conveniences, including a swimming pool. 20 years later in 2010, a further major rebuilding project updated the infrastructure and roof, and added two further bedrooms, a family bathroom and a huge 49 sq m kitchen/dining space with an outdoor terrace 'room'.
The idea behind Petit Soyc was to create a well equipped and easily accessible retreat where we could escape to, quickly relax, and slow down from the frenetic pace of our normal lives. Whilst mobile phones and satellite TV can keep you in touch with reality - we urge you to switch them off and savour the slow pace of life of this region. As Jamie Oliver commented in his TV programme on the area ('Jamie does the Pyrenees') - the locals are not rich, but they live like kings! If you like great local french food and wine - this is the area for you.
'Just a quick email to say that, by common consensus, Le Petit Soyc was the best French villa we have ever rented - excellent accommodation, great setting/views, lovely pool etc. The local area was superb - a part of France to which we will definitely return to explore further - apart from one day we had great weather so didn't venture further than Castelnau/Molieres/Lafrancaise' (August 06)
'We had a really lovely time.... thanks for all your help'
'Just wanted to let you know how much we enjoyed our time in France. Your cottage and pool were just great!'
'The cottage was everything we could have hoped for and more. We were pleasantly surprised at the facilities and equipment that were available and these helped with our enjoyment.'
'The house is lovely and the location really peaceful. There are plenty of games etc and the house is very well equipped. The directions were excellent. We really did enjoy our stay and we are very interested in returning next year'
We visited the Petit Soyc for two weeks in August and all had a fantastic time. We were five adults and three children, and all agreed that this was the best villa that we'd been to. The property is situated on the ridge of a hill and so, whichever way you look, there are views of beautiful rolling countryside; the only neighbours you can occasionally hear are the friendly donkeys from across the valley.
The pool area is great - safely fenced in and with room for loungers around it. It is next to a totally covered area, which comes out from the shed. We put the table tennis table up here, but was good for the children (and adults) to sometimes get into the shade. There's lots of space on the grass to the front and the sides of the house for games as well.
The property is beautiful inside with a huge kitchen diner, that leads into a comfy seating area by the TV. Outside the kitchen is large terrace, with huge round table, that catches the sun until the end of the day.
Within a short drive there are lots of markets, petty towns and vineyards - we picked most of those off in the mornings and then spent the afternoons by the pool.
This is a lovely property in a beautiful, quiet rural area. If you want to get away and totally relax, then we would definitely recommend the Petit Soyc.
I can't fault the property, it was beautifully clean, tidy and very well equipped. It was large enough that everyone had their own space without feeling on top of each other but still had a lovely intimate feel.
The outside of the property was fantastic, the pool is great (the kids are really missing it), the patio areas are a sun trap and the space at the front of the property was great for playing French cricket or boule.
We had a fantastic holiday and hope to return again.
A fantastic holiday home, the pictures just don't do the property justice. A real jewel of a property.
From the moment you arrive your holidays begins. The whole property, including grounds spotless, fresh flowers in most rooms and lavender bundles in bedrooms.
An amazing property in an idyllic location, peaceful, picturesque unspoilt countryside.
Something for everyone, from lazing on one of the many sun loungers, chilling in the pool, competing for table tennis champ, or clocking up some mileage on one of the well equipped bikes around the unspoilt countryside, so much to choose from.
Would definitely recommend this fabulous French cottage. Comfortable, large, well equipped and very clean. Surrounded by beautiful countryside to explore. Heated pool makes it perfect for everyone to swim. We had a relaxing holiday in this lovely house! We hope to be back again !
Very roomy, comfortable holiday home with 5 bedrooms ideal for party of ten. Local markets within short drive. Supermarket close by at Vazerac. Large we'll maintained pool.
We have just spent a week at this superbly presented and well equipped rural retreat. Our party consisted of 2 families with four children aged between 19 months and 4 years. The large house, grounds and safely fenced swimming pool offered plenty of space and entertainment so that we never felt we were tripping over each other - or felt the need to leave the property! The farmhouse now offers intelligent open plan living accommodation which allows adults to be in the kitchen keeping a watchful eye on children in the TV lounge, or indeed playing outside on the terrace or garden. The rural location and quiet roads meant that the garden was very safe, and the children loved exploring, picking plums and playing treasure hunts in the grounds... until we headed for the pool again!! The large kitchen table would have allowed us all to eat inside if we wanted to, however we tended to use the lovely round table on the kitchen terrace which seated up to 10. This was a great place for the adults to relax in the evening over a glass of local wine, BBQ alight, and watch the sun go down after children were in bed! Internally the house was modern, very well laid out and equipped so that it felt a very 'easy' place to be with everything you needed. This was an area of France that we did not know at all and we really enjoyed a couple of drives through the surrounding countryside to find tiny picturesque villages and hamlets, and the odd vineyard and chateau hidden here and there. It would be great biking country, and so would also be a great destination for families with older children too. If you are looking for a relaxing holiday in good quality accommodation, then le petit soyc fits the bill.
Away from it all in the hills of the French Midi-Pyrenees between Montauban and Cahors. Very private pool and multiple terraces with the nearest neighbours 500m away. The pool is fenced to comply with the French child safety regulations applying to all rental properties. The cottage is surrounded by fields on all sides. Toulouse airport is approximatley 1 hours drive, and a car is essential. Local shops are a short drive away in Vazerac (5 minutes) and Castelnau-Montratier (10 minutes). Cahors and Montauban hypermarkets, (and traditional markets twice weekly) are 30 minutes drive. Although driveable in 8 hours from Caen, we recommend breaking the journey overnight from the Channel ports.
Other Activities: Croquet, Table Tennis, Boules (all at the cottage)
Golf: Golf des Roucous is 5 miles away and open to 'pay and play'.
Ski: The ski resorts of the French and Andorran Pyrénées are approximately 150 miles away.
