My husband retired from the US Air Force in 2001. We love Colorado and the mountains and wanted to retire here. We drove all over the Colorado, Utah, New Mexico, and Wyoming mountains trying to find the perfect location. When we came to Leadville, we knew we had found the place. It is completely surrounded by mountains, has beautiful views of Colorado's two highest peaks - Mt. Elbert and Mt Massive. Leadville is centrally located in Colorado and within 45 minutes of Vail, Copper Mountain, Breckenridge, Keystone, and Beaver Creek. The local ski resort, Ski Cooper, is 15 miles. We can ATV, snowmobile, cross country ski, hike, and bike right out our door.
Nancy Stewart purchased this cottage in 2000
Marcie was a perfect guest! She left the cottage is great shape. I would love to have her back anytime.
For those seeking unique accommodations in an authentic little ski town, you've found the place. We were seeking a down to earth, quality experience for our 6 and 4 year old ski bunnies, and Ski Cooper along Cloud City Victorian Cottage was perfect. (For larger groups Nancy also offers two adjacent more spacious homes.)
-The bed and linens upstairs. Perfect rest after a full day on the slopes.
-The hot tub. Clean, close by, and always on. Tip: figure out how to set the thermostat before running out in the snow and hopping in, because it may be HOT.
-The proximity to the best restaurants in Leadville. Short, easy walk to Quincy's and the Tennessee Pass Cafe. Don't miss them!
-The kitchen and bathroom. Small, but quaint and spotless.
-The convertible couch. Very nice, appropriate support for two small kids (or one who is larger). Not at all the garden variety fold-out 4" mattress with those poking springs.
-The view from upstairs. So. Much. Snow. (Unfortunately, too much for us to open the door and enjoy the balcony.)
-The hospitality. Nancy was very generous; she lent us her crockpot to simmer a Ragu sauce and her laundry facilities so that we could drive back to NYC with clean clothes.
Thank you Nancy! -We aim to return.
PS: The cons? None at all. Just make sure you have appropriate transportation for winter driving in the mountains.
We (my wife, myself and two small children) fit perfectly into this little place. There was room for all four of us upstairs in the bedroom, but we just as easily could have used the futon for the kids. We did our best to enjoy the hot tub at least once a day, especially after a long day skiing. We were able to walk to town for shopping and dining. Thanks so much for letting us stay!
From the moment we saw the cottage, we knew this was going to be a great stay. Super cute and right in town. The hot tub was a great bonus as was the mountain views from the bedroom.
Excellent master bedroom with views of the mountains. The one bedroom cottage worked perfectly for our adult son and our stay in Leadville, CO. I would highly recommend this property and will rent again next time I am in town to see my son.
We enjoyed our peaceful little cabin. The bed was very comfy and the views from the bedroom and small patio are stunning. Very close to downtown and we walked there a few times. The owner Nancy is very kind and accommodating.
I booked the Cloud City Cottage last minute. Nancy was extremely attentive, kind and all around great to work pith. She responded promptly to the times I had questions. She even offered us to come stay a night earlier at no addition expense. That's right you heard me:) Thank you Nancy very much! The cottage was very clean and comfortable. The bed was amazing, it felt like I was sleeping on a cloud, wow.
We hiked, checked out Cooper and Copper Ski Resort. I did get a touch of altitude sickness because I didn't hydrate enough. Drink water, then some more. Or maybe the absinthe helped cause the nausea. I can't remember the name of the bar but it is 1.5 block walk from the cottage. A gem for sure. There was live music and the absinthe experience is truly unique.
Thank you again Nancy. We will be back in the winter.
We are one mile from the Mineral Belt Trail (a non-motorized 12-mile paved biking, hiking, cross-country ski path that surrounds Leadville).
